Make your choice Adventurous Stranger...A Goin Solo PTR - Page 20 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Wow, so much going on for you! Glad you've now begun a new chapter in your life. Hang in there with the finances...one step at a time, and you'll be back on the Disney track before you know it! You're pretty amazing to be holding down 3 jobs and still have that great sense of humor!

Wow, what a weekend - glad it is over and you made it through in one piece. Sorry about the panic attacks but hopefully they are behind you and only blue skies ahead.

Thank you, I'll hang in there. Now that I'm settling in and not throwing dough into moving, I'm able to throw money into my accounts. Believe me, sometimes my sense of humor is non existant and I force myself to keep my trap shut so mean things don't come flying out!!

No human being should be up at that hour unless it's to leave for Disney, check on a crying child or investgate what the cat just knocked over.
I'm glad that you are all moved and all setup in the new place, and with a new (dependable ) partner.
I had my first homemade meal (grilled herb chicken stuffed with proscuitto & swiss w/ grilled asparagus ) last nite. The company was as excellent as the food!!
I also can't believe you're working three jobs. I have one and it exhausts me.
Oh and I hear you on those panic attacks, I hate them.
Working that much gets to me every so often, ie: panic attacks. but I trudge on knowing that a Disney vacation is not far away!

At least the attacks are not as debilitating as they once were and definitely fewer! Debt is a nasty thing and I don't like being even in what some might consider a miniscule amount. I have credit cards for emergency & one for vacation, I prefer cash/debit. I was pleasantly shocked yesterday when I realized less than two months til vakay!!!

Blue skies, nothing but blue skies.. sing with me!!! Hopefully, no more attacks until my plane ride to WDW. I am not a happy flier, nope, no way!
I thank everyone for the well wishes and good vibes. This week has been much better.
I actually quit one of my part time jobs (Carrabbas) last Thursday - yep, it really was a bad day! I actually quit in the middle of a shift, long story but luckily the manager sat with me in the office and let me voice my concerns. I calmly (that's a first) went over the reasons I felt it was in my best interest to move on (after 10 years with the company) and the way I thought conditions could be improved. Seems he listened and there was a phone conference call with the GM, Mgr and myself the very next day. We have put some changes in place (that effect everyone, not just me) and I also reduced my days from 5 / week to 3. One of these shifts will be serving, one will be either serving or bartending and the other will be a Key shift (hourly management). I think breaking up the week will help me deal with the chaos that is going on there currently.
I am still working 7 days, just went from 2 to 4 shifts at the other restaurant. The money is not as good here but I like the working conditions much better and it closes an hour earlier than Carrabbas. Changes all the way around huh?
So, on to Disney news. I had to do some serious thinking about my upcoming vacation. First off, my annual pass. I actually thought of skipping the AP and just using the 3 remaining days on my non expiring pass and then picking up a 4 day PHer so I could take advantage of the free dining. Then I snapped out of it and realized that free dining would not benefit me since I plan on eating dinner at the kiosks in WS every nite. I really do not want to sit down twice a day to eat whether it's at a CS or restaurant - not to mention, I would have to switch resorts since the Dolphin doesn't participate in the DP. I will be picking up a TiW card instead.
I also decided to not buy the Wine View Lounge for the Party for the Senses until it's closer to my vakay. Two reasons, it'll give me some time to save up for the ticket (if WV is sold out, I will be fine with standing and eating and forgo the artisinal cheese and full bar) and two of my friends from FL are planning on coming for the weekend. I feel bad telling them, oh btw, you both need to fork out $200+ each for 2.5 hours of noshing. They already have to pick up park tix. If I miss Wine View, I'll catch it another year, no biggy.
The other decision I made is to not do the mixology seminars every nite, again I feel this is going to interfere with my plan to not plan. With the exception of MNSSHP, Party for the Senses & Le Cellier, I have no time schedule. I'd like to make rope drop but I'm not gonna kill myself to get there. I NEED to relax and do what feels right at that moment.
I am starting to bust out into random smiles thinking about going solo. Funny, my coworker just said, "not being at anyone's mercy" as I wrote that last sentence - he has no idea how relevant that statement is! Flying by the Seat of My Pants just might have to be the title of my TR!!
Less than 60 days friends!! Think it's time to utilize the countdown calendar stuck to my office wall that has been blank since February. Yes, I think it is!
Sorry about the panic attacks...they can be a pain! And the moving...now you know why I hate moving!!!!! I would rather burn the place down then move. At least your ex DBF was helpful. My ex spouse was helpful...by moving out of state!!!!! Gotta laugh, that's what I tell myself as well.

Oh yes it is!!! I have two count downs for the Sept trip - one for days and the other for just work days! Only 17 work days left to go.
I just wanted to say and that we (DH, DS10, and myself) are going the same exact dates as you! Oct 6-10! Not long now!
Yay!!! Are you doing MNSSHP again this year? Your costume last year was so beautiful!!! Hope to run into you or we can always set up a mini meet!

Your trip is so close now!! At first I thought, what a great idea actual days & work days. Then I realized, I work every day. Sometimes, I wonder about myself!

Ha!! I do too!! Seriously, these last two months have been hard with the go live of the new system after 18 months of delays. And now that it's in, all sorts of problems are shaking out. And since we changed so much all at once, it's difficult to figure out what issue is just bad configuration and which are actual bugs. We're getting there, I just need to start drinking at work

Sure helps me! Just joking! There was a rep here today working on the computers and helping us fix some bugs. Then she got to my computer. Stumped her completely, she had to call for reinforcements.
Seems it's my computer not playing nicey nice with the version of Internet Explorer. Nice to know it's the computer and not the user
