We were inspired by Samantha Brown's Carnival cruise so away we go! - Page 20 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Love the pictures of the ship. Mel's got the right idea. A cocktail and a book and the adult's only area... Love the paparazzi pic too! And looks like all that working out has paid off! You skinny mini! A sushi bar??? Oh yeah...it would be hard for me to want to eat anything else. Now quit teasing and give us some more! (I should talk, right? )
Thank you, thank you I did work out and try to eat healthy and believe it or not I have yet to gain that weight back thank god
The sushi bar was extra yummy!!! we ate there several times!
Okay so I'm going to put in another update today

Okay before I get started we saw our 5 month mark a few days ago in our countdown to Disney Just saying LOL
Now back to the reguarly scheduled program.......
Sunday, March 28th, 2010 Day 2 of our trip
Okay so we woke up just whenever our body woke us up! I ordered room service I mean seriously you should take advantage of room service when its free right???
I ordered coffee for two, a fruit plate, cereal with a banana and assorted pastries for us both. It was extra delish!
We were up and ready to head to the pool around 11am. It was a bit cloudy out at first and honestly I wasnt so sure it would be poolside laying weather.
I remember as we were walking out to lay by the pool that this guy stopped us and said it wasnt worth finding a chair because it was cloudy and windy.
But, we didn't listen to him and thank goodness because once we found a awesome chair on the upper deck with the band the sun came out and it was nice warm but VERY breezy!
But, it was perfect weather for a day at sea
We layed by the band and right over the pool area. We could see the big tv screen as well from where we were.
You can see Eric's mom in this picture...
A nice pic of our feet mine and erics
my side view...
Our plan was to go out without sunscreen at first since it was so cloudy....I only laid for 20 minutes without and you will see how strong that sun was later in our pics!!!! But, I did lather up after 20 minutes and I was so glad I did because I for once did not get a mega burn like I usually do!!
It was really nice just lounging in the sun. They had many poolside games. One was a Mixology game. It was really cool because the person that won could have their concotion on the daily newletter as a drink of the day!!!
Eric took some pics of this activity...
This is the one thing I like about Carnival....there is never a dull moment during sea days! Also, they always have a wonderful band who plays carribean music with steel drums and they play while you are laying in the sun and in between activities!
We were laying out in the sun and Eric decided that around 1pm he was going to a food and wine seminar they were having right next to where we were in the signature dining room. Its the one you have to pay extra to eat in. I really didn't want to get dressed and do it and neither did his parents. So, Eric went by himself to this food and wine tasting/pairing....this will later come into play
He said the tasting was 8 per person....
this was the room he went to the tasting in...
This place was gorgeous and I was at first upset that I didnt go because it was really beautiful and sounded like he had a great time!
here are the wines and food pairings that he ate
He said that it was very informative. He said he learned a lot from the tasting and he told me some really cool things about how to pair food with wine
He was in there until 2pm. I waited for him while laying out in the sun. I was with his parents for awhile and we watched another pool game which was hilarious, it was the hairy chest contest!!! It was super funny and entertaining!
Around 2pm he came back over and we layed out for a bit longer. We finally went inside around 230 ish.
We went inside and changed clothes to go and eat some lunch. We decided to eat pizza at the pool deck and what an extra yummy choice that was!!!!
The pizza was impressive and we had a slice and a half a piece!!
We then decided to explore the ship more just by ourselves. We went around and looked at a bunch of places. We decided to go look in the stores for awhile and then decided to have a glass of wine at the wine bar before dinner.....
here are our pics...
Here is the room before we left...
The TN vols men basketball game was on TV and Eric took a pic of it as we were exploring the ship....
Here was the wine bar...
Here was Eric and Myself drinking at the wine bar...
The wine I ordered was very good and 12 a glass but what the heck I was on vacation right???
After drinking a glass of wine we decided to eat sushi before dinner. It was around 530pm and we didnt have dinner until 830pm every night....
After sushi and walking around it was 630pm and we decided it was time to get ready for dinner since we had to shower, etc.
We told his parents whose room was right next to ours that we were getting ready for dinner and they were too.
It took about an hour and we were ready for dinner. We had a glass of wine on the balcolny before we left with his parents. We headed down for dinner around 8pm.
Eric kept saying he didnt feel good....by this time we were all sunburned and sun exhausted I think. We just all thought that maybe during the day he had had too much to drink and too much sun
We got to dinner and took pre dinner pics...
I love the succession of these pics because its so me and eric
this was his parents....
During dinner Eric didnt eat much...we all ate the same thing pretty much as well....
he kept saying he was hot and wanted to take his jacket off....
I offered to go back to the room but he wanted to watch the evening show at 1030 because he promised me we could watch it. It was a tribute to New Orleans and it was a singing and dancing show.
We decided to go because he insisted....we took pics of our outfits along the way and even had a formal pic made which I dont have to show you but will try to take a pic of the pic because it turned out to be wonderful!
We all had our portraits made together and separate and decided on our pic of just the two of us to buy!
Here are some random pics of us together...
This was us heading into the show....
We choose seats in the front row of the balcolny. They were actually great seats. As the night progressed Eric became more sick and stated he was feeling really unwell. Before the show started we urged him to leave the show and go back to the room. I offered to go back with him but he refused.
It became worse and worse. He was sweating visably.....he ended up passing out/blacking out in the middle of the show.
We were worried sick.....he came around and in the meantime we took his jacket and tie off....
His dress shirt was soaked from sweat. His mother ran to get some wet wash cloths and at this point we could not carry him out. He was dead weight really. He said once we took everything off of him he felt better.
He came around and was doing better when the show went off. We let the theater clear out and we assisted him out of the theater and back to the room.
We were not back in our room long when Eric ran for the bathroom and vomited. It was projectile and it sounded horrendous. One thing about Eric is he never throws up.
I've known him for 10 years and in that time he has thrown up three times!!!!
I was worried to death and ran out of the room to get his parents. They had heard him and came in worried sick.
He said he felt much better and we thought it might have been too much to drink plus something he ate maybe....
We took this pic before going to bed around 1130pm
I wake up around 2-3am with him vomiting again.....he said he was fine after wards and I kept an eye on him...neither one of us slept very much......

Oh no, poor Eric! That's awful to have happen at all, much less right at the beginning of the trip!!! That had to be really scary when he passed out, too. Poor guy! Poor you, too! Now I'm REALLY eager for the next update!! LOL! You sure do know how to tell a story and leave a cliffhanger!!
It sounded like the day started well. So sorry to hear Eric came down with the Norovirus, especially on the ship. So sorry to hear itwasnt an easy night an nobody got much sleep. I hope he started to feel better soon and was able to enjoy the rest of the cruise.

I'm all caught up. Sounds like it was a great first day on the ship. Day two started out great. How terrible that Eric got sick! Hurry back and let us know if it was short lived or not and if anyone else got sick....... my biggest fear is getting sick on vacation!
Crissy I've erased the Norovirus from my head as that was not fun and 3 at once. I defanitely remember all those symptems all too well. I hope Eric didn't have it too long. it defanitely stinks that he got it while on vacation though.
