Forums Closed

As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Honestly......do you think I have a problem? (long vent)
I too, have been on the recieving end of "Again?" Which is followed up with "Don't you get bored going to the same place all the time?" Ummm, no. I have a coworker who goes to Vegas every year and no one ever says this to him.
Like Terri said, Disney is my Mecca. It is the place I go to forget about life, let go and have fun with my family. It feeds my soul, as corny as that sounds. And nothing anyone could ever say will take that away from me. If people don't get it, it's not my problem.
And like Jill said, the look of pure joy on your little one's face when they are experiencing the magic of WDW, is priceless. Note to self: I should start carrying around a copy of my sig picture and when anyone says "Again?"" to me pull it out. A picture is worth a thousand words.
No, you don't have a problem. You have found a place filled with wonder that you want to share with your children. They grow up way too fast, and you only live once. Go and enjoy.
NEVER let anyone steal your magic!!!

Re: Honestly......do you think I have a problem? (long vent)
The last short trip I took, I didn't even tell my family or coworkers, if that tells you anything.
Life is short, and if some people think we're nuts, that is just more space in the parks for us!

Re: Honestly......do you think I have a problem? (long vent)
I wouldn't feel bad at all. Our family loves WDW so that's where we vacation. Who cares what other people think. We're DVC members so I plan to go at least twice a year for the next 40 or so years!

Re: Honestly......do you think I have a problem? (long vent)
Some people just don't get it. Don't feel bad about it. It is a great place to go and escape the daily grind of "real life". When I tell people we have been 11 times they think I have lost my mind. I keep thinking, "This year we will go someplace else." Then one of my sons or husband, or sister that always goes with us says something about going back to WDW. Last year we went in December(2004) after going in the summer. I thought that would do us for awhile, but the whole family is chomping at the bit to go back. My 8 yr. old has been begging to go since last summer. He wanted so much to go this year in December, but we decided to wait till June. We will be there on his birthday and he is thrilled. This will be the second time he has had his birthday there. I have had mine there (July 2) many times. It is a great place to go! No, some people just don't get it. There have been times when we went and really couldn't afford it. We had to stay off-site and eat sandwiches ect., but had such a good time. The memories that are made on a trip to WDW last a lifetime. Don't let people steal your joy!

Re: Honestly......do you think I have a problem? (long vent)
I agree. Some people just don't get it. Our personell manager goes to Vegas several times a year and no one thinks that's weird. DH's family loved Disney and went sevral times a year when they were alive. I can blaim them for my addiction. We've gone at least once a year for the past 30 years. DD says we've brainwashed here because she loves it ao much as we do. I've natived one thing, though, whenever one of the others plan a trip they come to us for advice.

Re: Honestly......do you think I have a problem? (long vent)
Well, I get this mostly from my mother, and in her case I think it is that she is largely house bound and would like to be traveling all over like she and my Dad did before his long illness.
That said, I work hard (sometimes very hard) for the money and in my case I don't have a spouse to answer to. I have been other places and I will again.
I think part of the problem is ignorance--many people don't realize the universe of things to do at WDW, many of which don't involve going to the parks. And many people don't even understand how many parks there are.
Maybe they find their magic elsewhere.
Go. Enjoy. No apologies!

Re: Honestly......do you think I have a problem? (long vent)
Another vote for "don't worry about it"! We are all the type of people we hope to meet when we vacation at WDW. We appreciate the organization, the experience, and the care CM put into our vacations.
Enjoy your time planning and vacationing at WDW and don't pay any attention to those who are clueless!

No, I don't think you have a problem at all!
We going to WDW as much as we can, and all of our friends/co-workers support us! Family members, on the other hand, will just at us and why?....Again?
To me, they haven't experienced the of Disney yet, and until they do, they will never know what it feels like to be a kid again and have that magical feeling.
(I keep mentioning/hinting to them that they should go, but they always say, "I'd rather go to Vegas", then I am the one who at them!!!)
So, YOU GO GIRL!!! and plan as many trips as you can!!!!! Have fun!!!!

Re: Honestly......do you think I have a problem? (long vent)
You know, the way some people react you would think you had a substance abuse issue, or a gambling problem. You like to spend your vacations in one of the cleanest, safest, happiest places on the planet. Don't allow anyone to put you in the position of defending that. Just go and send them a postcard.

Re: Honestly......do you think I have a problem? (long vent)
You don't have a problem, they do is the way I look at it. I know people who go to the same place every year, do they have an addiction? I would say so, like I admit I am addicted lol. I have been going every 5-6 months for the past 2 years and definatly get the same reaction. So what I like to go so often? I have fun, get away from here and I am not bothing them or asking them to support my habit. I personally think yeah, you can be addicted to a place, but hey, I could be addicted to worse, I could be addicted to gambling, which I know people who go to Vegas or Atlantic City regularly. What is the difference? Yeah, they could win money, but more times then not they LOSE money. And what did they get in return? nothing. At least I spend money and have an adventure
Don't worry what they are all saying, just go and know your going to be having a great time!!

Re: Honestly......do you think I have a problem? (long vent)
Yeah people including family like to pick on us for going to Disney once again. We go once every 18-24 months. And we don't have kids at home so we can't use that excuse.
I get excited planning on the details and my adr's. I love yakking with you all and reading Disney books. I really down play it to other people. I can share with you all my excitement because you understand. Then I don't tell others about my time that I spend here on the boards. Friends and family know of our trips they just don't know about the planning. I keep it all cool.

Re: Honestly......do you think I have a problem? (long vent)
My sister in law gets all high and mighty about it, and it really used to get to me on an ethical level, but now I don't allow it. She still brings it up EVERY time I see her (weekly, or at least bi-weekly) and she now pretends to understand, but I honestly don't even want her to. She's been there just as many times as I have but hasn't been touched by the magic (she thinks "Disneyland" and "WDW" are interchangeable. NO!) She has this weird half pity/half repugnancy towards me about it and I just wish that she would STOP with the attitude and go on with the rest of her life. Sheesh!
As evidenced in this thread, most ppl here understand what you're saying. THEIR LOSS.

Re: Honestly......do you think I have a problem? (long vent)
You do not have a problem!!! I think we all get some kind of looks or questions from friends and family about going to WDW repeatedly. My dad just sighs every time I mention a trip. My in-laws who are frequent Vegas travellers (at least once if not twice a year) don't understand but I am hoping the trip in a couple days to DL will give them a small clue to the magic. My mom understands completely which is very nice and loves Disney as much as I do. MY co-workers think it's more funny than anything.
WDW and Disney as a whole is my escape from the world. Chuck loves going as much as I do and we are just two fun loving adults.
Have fun with the planning and do not let their attitude ruin what you looks os forward to!!

Re: Honestly......do you think I have a problem? (long vent)
My family thinks I am just so "tacky" going to WDW..I really dont care! I agree with Larry, I work really, really hard for what I earn, I pay my bills, I put money away for my retirement, I pay tuition so my kids can go to college. I also put up with alot of nonsense ( to use a polite word) where I work.. when I have a Kir at France, or float around at the pool at BCV,, I can think to myself 'ahhh.. this is one of the reasons I do what I do...'. That said.. go for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
