As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Your Favorite Character Moment?????
You guys know all my Stitch experiences are magical! And I too am a little kid when it comes to characters. But I think my favorite moment was when I met Lilo and Stitch at MGM in the Animation Studios. DH & I had gone to breakfast at 'Ohana that morning and we were carrying our picture that they made there. I was also wearing my Viva Walt Disney World Stitch shirt. So we are next to walk up and I turn to DH and ask "Can you take a picture and videotape??" Poor DH did the best he could. But on the video you see Lilo point to our 'Ohana picture and give us a big thumbs up. Then when I hugged Stitch he saw my shirt and clapped really big and gave me a big hug. After DH took a picture he walked up to shake Stitch's hand and got a big camera shot full of Stitch's eye It's just funny to see. But this was one of my most fav. moments and the picture is also my favorite b/c Andy did a great job of catching a natural moment (it's also my background on the computer!)

Re: Your Favorite Character Moment?????
One of my favorite character moments came on our last day at WDW, while attending the first day of MNSSHP last October.
Throughout the trip we were hoping to meet Donald but never came across him .
At the very end of the night we spotted Donald in his Halloween finery on his boat. Unfortunately, the person who really wanted to see him had fallen asleep and I didn't have the heart to wake her up.
DH stayed with Caroline while Tyler and I got in line. We were almost to the front when Donald had to take a break, but we were told he'd be back shortly. We decided to wait.
We got the autograph book open to a blank page - the opposite page was autographed by Meeko who we had met at dinner at the Liberty Tree Tavern.
We get up to see Donald and he's signing Tyler's book,
I managed to snap that picture, the next thing I know both Donald and Tyler are rolling on the ground laughing (unfortunately, I didn't get a picture of that)! After they collected themselves I managed to get a good picture of the two of them. As we were leaving Donald blew Tyler a few kisses and we were off. I asked Tyler what was so funny.
He told me that Donald signed OVER Meeko's autograph and realized he made a mistake and they both had a good laugh over that!

Re: Your Favorite Character Moment?????
Good question. I just love reading all these great character interactions. I think this is what makes our beloved WDW so magical!

Re: Your Favorite Character Moment?????
My favorite character moment happened last December during MVMCP. We were waiting in line behind the castle to see Cinderella & Prince Charming. They emerged from the castle, waved to the crowd, and descended the stairs just like royalty. When it was DD's turn, she went up and started talking to them and they were complimenting her on her Christmas hat. I asked DD "Savannah, whose castle is that?" Cinderella smiled as she fully expected Savannah to say it was her castle. Savannah replied "It's mine". Cinderella started laughing and picked DD up, which I had never seen her do before. Prince Charming asked Savannah which room in the castle was hers. Savannah didn't know so they all turned and faced the castle. Cinderella & PC both pointed up to the tallest tower at the top of the castle and declared that Savannah's room. She was SO happy! They gave her kisses as she was leaving. Now every time Savannah sees the castle she looks up to the top and says "There's my room".
Too cute

Re: Your Favorite Character Moment?????
Oh I forgot one!! In 2002 again, we got in line at Animal Kingdom to see Pooh and friends and the autograph pen ran out of ink so I ran out to the store to get another one when I got back I was running down the queue to try to catch them with Piglet who was DD#3's favorite at the time and imagine my surprise when I rounded a corner and DD#3 was coming toward me with the biggest smile on her face leading Piglet by the hand for his break!!! Apparently (according to DH) the kids got a picture with Pooh & Tigger and then went to get in line for Piglet and the CM announced that he was done for the time being. Well Katie wasn't going to take no for an answer and she walked right up and grabbed his hand. The CM tried to stop her but Piglet waved her away and let Katie and Shannon lead him off to his break! It was a great moment! I attached a picture but I don't know how to get it into the post so you will have to click the attachment link to see it sorry! Maybe someday I will figure it out.

Re: Your Favorite Character Moment?????
DD was 5 when we were at MK for the rope drop and noticed Minnie by the Dumbo ride and went up to it. She was actually the 3rd person there, but the other 2 girls had run in front of her. Minnie asked her to ride with her and then walked hand in hand with her back to Mickeys Toontown where we got a picture with both of them courtesy of Minnie.

Re: Your Favorite Character Moment?????
My favorite with me was last Sept when I delivered Breeanna's card she'd made for Mickey on my solo trip. I stood in line by myself and when it was my turn, I quickly explained the card and showed it and Mickey started jumping up and down, hugging me. We posed for a picture and my face was RED from all the excitement!
My favorite of all time was at Disney Land when DD1 was about 4 years old. My dad had a conference, so my mom, me, and 2 DDs went. We were on our way in and we spotted Mickey standing over by himself. Nicole's face lit up and she took off running. He saw her coming and squatted down with open arms. They had the most *beautiful*, tear-jerking hug...it shoulda been on TV!

Re: Your Favorite Character Moment?????
I have a few:
In 2002 instead of having a regular Christmas my folks took my sister (31 at the time) and me (29 at the time) to WDW. We got to MK at 7:15 on Christmas Day and were first in line for the rope drop. We walked right into MK and just as we walked under the railroad Mickey and Minnie mouse were making their appearances for the day! We got a family photo taken with Mickey and Minnie on Christmas morning. What a rare but wonderful treat!
Later on during the same vacation I was standing in line to get my photo taken with Tigger. There were 3 kids & parents in front of me. I patiently waited my turn. When I got to Tigger he grabbed me and started waltzing me around New York Street. I was laughing so hard I almost fell over. It is a moment that I will never forget.
In 2003 my sister took me to Chef Mickey's for my 30th Birthday. This was my first character dinner experience so I didn't really know what to expect. Goofy took the teenage girl from the table next to me stood her next to him, slapped a napkin on her head (her veil) and gave her the condiment basket (her flowers). Goofy took me and placed me in front of them and handed me an autograph book...I was to "marry" them. After the ceremony Goofy pranced his new "bride" around the whole restaurant. We were laughing so hard it was difficult to finish our meals!

Re: Your Favorite Character Moment?????
[ QUOTE ]
A funny one for us was when Kylor was 5 and met Maleficent. He went up with his autograph book and before she would sign it she asked him 'Do you think I'm pretty' Kylor of course said 'no' So she repeated 'I SAID do you think I'm pretty' Kylor again said 'no', so she closed the autograph book and was holding it in the air. Kylor was jumping for it. She then left her spot and went over by a wall and held the book over the wall threatening to drop it to the ground way down there She finally relented, signed the book and haughtily posed for a photo. People were all around just cracking up - somebody out there has the whole thing on video, too
[/ QUOTE ]
This story is the BEST. STORY. EVER (especially since I'm such a HUGE fan of Maleficent.

Re: Your Favorite Character Moment?????
Who: DW(soccermomof2), Me, DS#1 (21 months old)
When: July 1998
Where: Garden Grill (breakfast)
We are having a quiet, relaxing breakfast at the Garden Grill with DS#1 on his first trip to WDW. The restaurant is not very crowded, and all of the characters, Mickey, Minnie, Chip and Dale all visited our table twice. On Minnie's second time around, she decides to sit down in the booth next to DW, as DS#1 is sitting at the end of the table in a high chair. Minnie proceeds to help DS#1 color in the activity sheet/placemat and leaves a beautiful message in his autograph book... "To my darling prince Joseph, Love, Minnie Mouse"... Well, a few minutes into the coloring session, DS#1 starts getting bored with it and looks at DW and I and says "Where's PIP?"... with that, Minnie stopped what she was doing, went and found CHIP and brought him over to our table to play with DS#1, and she sat back down and finished coloring in the placemat. Absolutely priceless.

Re: Your Favorite Character Moment?????
Okay Dawn, just have to thank you for posting this question...you have made my day!
Here's mine: On our 2nd family trip to WDW my yougest son, (5 at the time) and I were waiting close to "the Hat" at MGM waiting for his Dad and brother to return from TOT. We spotted Mary Poppins trying to sign autographs and tell people she was walking toward the hat. Well nobody wanted to follow her so she grabs Zachary's hand and off they went.
She had a long conversation with him in her best English accent, asking his name, where he was from, how did we travel here... Then she asked him if he knew her "special" word and he did but I can't spell it ! Then he sang "Step In Time" for her! And she signed his book all the while he got to hold Parrot, her umbrella. When she finished she gave him a big red lipstick kiss!
He proceeded to wipe it off once we left Mary but it was sooo sweet. He had a grin from ear to ear the rest of the day!

Re: Your Favorite Character Moment?????
I have 2 and they both involve Chip and Dale.
1)1997, Garden Grill. Chip is paying alot of attention to my Niece and 2 Nephew's, so my sister says "Hey Chip I saw one of your cousins in NH last week but I ran over him!". Chip was coloring with my niece, he whipped his head up and threw down his crayon and pounded the table with his fist while shaking his other one at DS. He then fell down crying until my niece hugged him.
2)2001, Epcot by Japan. The bus with all the characters came by and my friend Gary was sitting on the wall with his newly purchased beer. I guess he was sitting in the spot that Chip and Dale go to when they are in Japan so they come flying over tackle him! He laughed his head off even though they spilt his precious beer!

Re: Your Favorite Character Moment?????
I have too many to list-this is hard!
I guess 2 of my favorites are the same. Twice Tigger has put his arm around me and started walking away with me. And everytime my husband gets a pic of us walking off together. I love it! The one time Tigger told my DH to stand there and bounce and pretend he was Tigger while we walked away. Of course the CM had to ruin it and made Tigger get back to work.
I would say the best memory of Disney that includes my DD is when she saw Mickey for the 1st time or when we went to breakfast at Chef Mickey and she went running to Goofy and knocked him down. He just kept coming around and dancing with her while we waited for our table. This is also a good one, my mom had bought my DD a book with the princesses in it, so we had them all sign on their page. They all thought it was neat. But Ariel was the one that made the biggest fuse over it. She talked to Cassidy for about 5 minutes or more about the book. She asked her if she knew how to make a fishy face. It definately was a moment to remember!
