Forums Closed
|
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Whaddya wanna be when you grow up?
1. What is your profession? Central Office Assistant for the Dairy Association.
2. Is it what you trained/went to school for? Animal Science...with a business minor
3. Is it what you wanted/want to do? Own/Manage a kennel or horse farm.
4. If not, what would you rather be doing? or...what other profession would you like to try? I would love to train animals for the movies or TV...Rudd Weatherwax is my hero (trainer of Lassie!) I would love to be the Giraffe keeper at Disney's Animal Kingdom or Busch Gardens…but I don’t think they would pay me enough to live on.

Re: Whaddya wanna be when you grow up?
1. What is your profession? Passion Parties Independent Consultant. I also do gift baskets for friends and family if they need a little help and don't mind parting with $20 to have someone else do the shopping and arranging. Hey, it's spending money.
2. Is it what you trained/went to school for? Certainly not!
3. Is it what you wanted/want to do? It's not what I grew up thinking I'd do with my life, but I do love it!
4. If not, what would you rather be doing? or...what other profession would you like to try? I enjoyed being a TA, but I don't think I was very good at it. LOL! I'd love to get paid to travel. I would adore doing just gift baskets for a living, but sadly, there doesn't seem to be enough demand to keep me in business.

1. What is your profession? Part-time florist
2. Is it what you trained/went to school for? Nope, I'm a trained secretary.
3. Is it what you wanted/want to do? Most of the time I enjoy it, although there are some customers some days....
4. If not, what would you rather be doing? or...what other profession would you like to try? Secret Shopper in WDW? What I would like to do is floral arrangements in a wholesale situation to be distributed to stores like the one I work in.

Re: Whaddya wanna be when you grow up?
1. What is your profession?
I'm currently unemployed. I worked in IT as a configuration analyst before I was laid off. Now I'm a SAHM while looking for another job.
2. Is it what you trained/went to school for? Sort of. I took a 9 month intesive IT course.
3. Is it what you wanted/want to do? No. I'm a secretary and want to get back into it, but here the majority of admin jobs require bilingualism and I don't speak French.
4. If not, what would you rather be doing? or...what other profession would you like to try? Yes, I would like to win the lottery and not have to worry about having a job anymore.

2.Is it what you trained/went to school for? Yes, among other things.
3. Is it what you wanted/want to do? No, I was a social worker working for Head Start when I decided to pursue teaching. Now I can't really imagine doing anything else. Most days I love my job(seven year olds actually laugh at my jokes!).
4.If not, what would you rather be doing?or...what other profession would you like to try? I want to work on the Storybook Canal Boats at Disneyland(preferably on the Tinkerbell boat). I love the costume they get to wear, and I know the spiel by heart. I've wanted to work on these boats since I was a little girl!

Re: Whaddya wanna be when you grow up?
1. What is your profession? Right now I am a stay at home Mom & wholesaler who works 1-1/2 hrs a day at my kids elementary school as a cafeteria aide. I have been unhappy with our $$ situation & have decided to take the leap & make selling on Ebay a full time job..
2. Is it what you trained/went to school for? Nope, I'm a licensed Cosmetologist
3. Is it what you wanted/want to do? I wanted to be a hairdresser from the time I was 3YO.. I did fullfill that dream & I know I will eventually go back to being a Cosmetologist ( want to open my own full-service salon)
4. If not, what would you rather be doing? or...what other profession would you like to try? I wanna be a Disney World CM.. I've often thought that I can combine the best of both worlds & be a Cosmetolgist at the GF salon or make up artists for the face characters..

Re: Whaddya wanna be when you grow up?
1. What is your profession? High School English Teacher/Deparmtent Coordinator/Portfolio Cluster Leader
2. Is it what you trained/went to school for? Sort of -- I actually majored in History and minored in English, but I have always loved to read.
3. Is it what you wanted/want to do? I have wanted to teach, according to my Mom, since my first sister was born when I was 3 and began working with her to learn everything I already knew.
4. If not, what would you rather be doing? or...what other profession would you like to try? Right now absolutely nothing else. But when I retire, I'd love to plan Disney vacations for those who struggle with that.

Re: Whaddya wanna be when you grow up?
1. What is your profession? Finance Manager for a hospital.
2. Is it what you trained/went to school for? Yes, degree in Accounting.
3. Is it what you wanted/want to do? Does anyone truly grow up thinking as a small child, "Gee, I'd really like to be a CPA when I grow up 'cause THAT would be exciting."
I actually started college with the far-fetched notion that I'd major in business, minor in dance, and open a dance studio.
4. If not, what would you rather be doing? or...what other profession would you like to try? I'd love to write and/or teach. I teach classes at the hospital and truly love it. Can you imagine going to a Finance class and being taught using Disney trivia? It really helps tear down the walls many people put up when it comes to anything remotely related to Math.

Re: Whaddya wanna be when you grow up?
1. What is your profession? I work as a health unit coordinator on a labor and delivery unit of a local hospital
2. Is it what you trained/went to school for? No. I have a bachelor's degree in psychology.
3. Is it what you wanted/want to do? Not really. I was working at my job when I went back to college umpteen years ago and ended up staying even after I graduated because the job worked well with being a single parent.
4. If not, what would you rather be doing? or...what other profession would you like to try? I would either like to write a book or open a quilt shop in Orlando (close proximity to WDW! )
Thanks for the fun question!
