Don't be too hard on her or she will end up like I did. I didn't get my license until I was 22! I took drivers ed in HS but I was suppose to practice with my mom but both the family cars were stick shifts and she wasn't that great a teacher. She would get so upset at me and then yell at me so I finally gave up. Then I moved to college and lived in Boston for 2 years (no car needed there!). I relied on public transportation until I got my license and my first car when I was 22. I did work in HS but I took the bus or got a ride from a friend. Mom would rarely pick me up. My sister on the other hand (who didn't get her license until she was 21) got a ride to/from work by mom or dad!

BTW I am sure she will pass the next time around...now she knows what to expect it should be a piece-of-cake.

Since she is having some difficulties maybe she isn't ready. My dd had her permit for 1 1/2 years before she even attempted to take her test (which she passed the first time around). I would be more concerned with her ability to drive by herself at night which makes it harder to see and judge distance anyway. My son will be 17 in December and there is no way he is ready to get a permit let alone a drivers license. It is a huge responsibility. I still think the driving age needs to be raised to 18, 16 is to young. (stepping down off of soap box)

I have been the pink of patience perfection with DD (which is why I have to vent here!) I've never yelled at her, I offer calm guidance, I encourage her that she can do it. I set up the "course" down by our barn drive and had her run through it several times. She seems to be OK, but if she gets the slightest bit frustrated, she starts being a real twerp about it (and starts hitting cones). We are taking off this week to go to the MOA meet (can't wait!) and then I'm letting her have another week to practice, but she's got to get her license before DH and I go to WDW or she won't have transportation to work. In Ohio, she can't have her temps longer than a year without having to go through the whole renewal process. December is her deadline for that.

I'm trying to homeschool my younger DDs, but our days all seem to be "broken up" with driving 16yo to work for a 4 hour shift here, 3 hours there and we never seem to be able to accomplish much with all the driving around we're doing for her.

I hate to make her quit her job, it was a fluke that she got it in the first place...they asked *me* to work there and I said no, then jokingly suggested DD, knowing she was 15 and they hired at 16. They made an exception and she has been an excellent employee for them. I just can't spend 2 hours a day commuting her back and forth to work and still do everything else I have to do in a day.

Thanks for letting me vent here. It makes it so much easier to be calm with her, knowing I can blow off some steam!

BTW, the "manager" of the driving school was out today, but he's going to get an earful tomorrow, teaching teenagers to only use their mirrors to back up.

It's possible that she might not be quite ready for her license. On top of that, for such a new driver, a 30-minute drive each way to and from work is a mighty big load for a new 16 year old driver. If she's not ready yet, then she may be forced to quit the job, but that's sure better than having her make such a long trip by herself if she's not accomplished enough behind the wheel.
