Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I'm working on my third day! Thanks to everyone for your support! And I agree, it's kind of sad to see our baseball team going... But I got to say that the MLB wasn't really "nice" with us too...

August 3rd Day 3 : Some days are better than the others…

Mickey (or one of Disney’s song, I don’t remember) wake me at 6.45 and at 7.00, I was eating my breakfeast. It was the Early Morning to MGM, so I take the bus and I went to MGM. I had a strategy in my mind, but it didn’t worked out the way I thought! I thought that if I hurry, I could go on the Tower of Terror and then to the Rock’n’Roll rollercoaster.. Well, my “wonderful” strategy didn’t worked out like I planned because I wasn’t the only one thinking like that. So I did the Tower and I had one of the funniest moment of my trip. I was sit with 2, hum, I could say pretty much older that I am men. It was their first time in the tower and they were sure that it wasn’t that terrible… Until the first drop came… The man beside me grabbed my skirt and he yelled so hard, I couldn’t believe it. I was hysterically laughing and on the picture, you can see the poor man with fear on his face et me laughing…I went to the rollercoaster after that. I took me an hour to do the both and I’ve planned that it would took me like 35 mins… After that I decided to do the Great Movie Ride and the Backlot. I still had pretty much time ahead, so I told myself “ Hum, Who Wants to be a Millionaire seems to be cool.”. So I took a fastpass and I went into the theatre. OK, I’d like to remember you that I speak French and that I come from Québec… So I’ve had an idea of what it was, but I wasn’t sure at all. I had sooo much fun! After the show, it was heavily raining outside, so I decided to go and eat at the resort. I’ve never really enjoyed MGM… I don’t know why. And I really feel that it’s not the kind of park where you can have a lot of fun alone. You need to be with some people to talk and give your impressions.

After my lunch, it was still raining, so I made the choice to go and take a nap to the hotel. Thanks to Maria, my room was already clean! At 2.00-2.15, I took the bus and I went to Magic Kingdom, planning to spend a good part of the evening there. Since I’m young, I’ve always HATED those parades… I don’t like the fact that you are standing in the middle of the crowd trying to see something. So, when I arrived at MK, I decided to take the train so I won’t be caught in the middle of the parade on Main Street… I ended up in Frontierland… where the parade started. So I had to see the “One man’s dream” parade. I appreciated it, but I was very happy to go to the Pirates after that! I did the Tiki Room (and I was happy to hear my friend Pierre speaking French ) and I went to tha Jungle Cruise. After, I walked a little bit around the Magic Kingdom and I did the Carousel of Progress. I love it so much.

After that, I made the “badest” decision of my trip… I was trying to find a place to eat something “god” and I couldn’t fine any. So I took the decision to went back to the hotel and to eat there. Since the beginning of the day, I was feeling lonely. It’s the first time that I’m traveling alone and I have to admit that it was very much harder than I thought. I decided to eat at the All Star Music’s food court and the CM who were at the “Barbecue” were so rude with everybody… I don’t understand why they were like that. I know that they probably didn’t want to work at Disney to end up in a restaurant, but that’s your job, so can you please try to have a smile on your face ??? So, that rudeness, my loneliness, the food that I was eating, and the fact that no one seems to care about me being alone was too much for me : I called home and I was crying on the phone . Mom was crying too and I was like “Take a plane and come down here!”. Mom told me to go and walk around the resort and to call back in an hour… So that her and Dad would see what they could do. She told me to do some PS for my dinners to come. So I wouldn’t eat alone and I would eat good food. That was the best advice she gave me. I realized that since the beginning of my trip, I wasn’t really having fun. I was rushing to do the most that I could. So I just walked around, and the magic of Disney came to me. I realized that I was on the greatest place on earth and that if I really wanted to make this trip wonderful, I could. I started to smile at people that I met and they smiled back… How could everybody know that I was alone and lonely if I wasn’t giving them any hints about it ? I went back to my room and I made PS for Chefs de France, Crystal Palace and Garden Grill. I decided that no matter how much it would cost me, I would have the trip of my life! When I got out of my room to go at the lobby, there was this wonderful rainbow all over my building. I called it the “hope rainbow”. I knew that from now on, my trip would be wonderful.

I went back to call Mom and Dad. They I told them what I did and my Dad remembered me that I was there to have fun and that I was the only one who could decide if I was having fun or not. He was right! I went to sleep with a big smile on my face

Thanks for your trip report, Edith. I admire your courage to take your first solo trip at such a young age, especially to a place where your first language is not spoken. You're doing wonderfully, and I hope the rest of your trip turned out to be fantastic. Keep up the trip report!

Edith, I'm sorry you had a rough spot there, but I'm so glad you ended the day with a smile. It's not always easy to be alone at WDW -- you're doing just great. Looking forward to more of your report!

Re: August 3rd Day 3 : Some days are better than the others…

I just caught up on your report....I can understand the eating dilema. I spent a lot of time traveling solo in Europe and I had a hard time going to restaurants alone. I think I ate at McDonalds in Paris three times before I decided to just go to a regular restaurant

I can't wait to read more of your report!

Re: First Disney solo trip! August 3rd Day 3 : Some days are better than the others… UPDATED 10/02

August 4th : Day 4 – A wonderful day “off”.

I had a 5 days Park-Hopper plus, so that meant that I had to take a day off. I decided to take it on the Wednesday. I woke up at 8.45 and it was so great to relax a little! I had a PS at 10.30 at the 1900 Park Fare and I’ve planned to do some shopping at Downtown Disney. I was planning to take the day without any stress. I had to relax a little bit!

I took a bus that brought me to the Magic Kingdom. I realized that I was there the day before, but I was so much happier to be there that I was the previous day! I took to monorail to the Grand Floridian, and I had to pass by the Contemporary, The Polynesian and finally, the Grand Floridian… I really felt in love with this resort when I was 9… They were building it while I was at Disney and I remembered that I told my father “Dad, one day, I’m going to stay here”. Well, I don’t know if I ever will, but I was very happy to at least go and eat there! I thought that I was “rich” for a few hours! I went to the 1900 Park Fare and I waited like 2 mins before the beeper they gave me started to buzz. The lady that gave me my place, Kim, was sooooooo nice! She’s really the one that made that day so wonderful. When she realized that I was traveling alone, she took care of me like no one could have! She told Alice that I was alone and Alice came and she sat with me! I was finally talking to someone while I was eating!!! Alice talked to me for about 10 minutes and she told me all the French words she knew! She even asked me to teach her how to say “How old are you” (by the way, if you want to know it, it’s “Quel âge avez-vous” ) and she asked me how was going my trip. After that, the man that’s with her (I don’t know his name) came and Kim took some picture. I went to the buffet and I was so happy to see fruits! That made my day. While I was eating, Eeyore came to see me. So did Winnie. And Alice was telling everyone in the restaurant that I was speaking French. It was really wonderful. The manager of the place came about 5 times to ask me how it was. I really had a great time. For the first time of my trip, I felt that the Disney magic was coming through me. After the breakfast, Kim came with me and she took pictures of me and Mary Poppins and Belle. Really, I will probably never see this Kim of my life, but she really is the one that made my trip so wonderful. Thank you Kim…

After the breakfast, I realized that there was a kind of “computer-phone” so I could send some emails home. I was very happy with that! Not knowing if I could, because I wasn’t staying there, I went into the “living room” off the hotel. I was sitting near the birds and I was just so impressed with everything that I saw. I felt that I was in the Titanic! I took pictures of about everything I saw and I decided to go and walk outside a little. It’s so beautiful outside the Grand Floridian. It’s quiet, it’s peaceful. I really felt that I was in heaven! While I was outside, it started to rain, so I went back to take the monorail so I’ll be able to go at DTD.

I’d like to tell you that I don’t like to ask question to people (I’m a teacher… kind of ironic!). So I didn’t know which bus to take to go to DTD. I decided to go at the TTC so I would catch a DTD bus. I couldn’t fine any and it was still raining. I decided to take the first bus that I’d see and I told myself that I would go and visit this resort! I end up in the Swan-Dolphin-Beach Club Villas-Boardwalk bus. Those resorts are soooo beautiful! I only saw them from the outside, but I was stick on my window and I was like “awww!”. I got out the bus at Beach Club Villas and I waited there for the DTD bus… and it took at least 35 minutes before it shows up!

I was in Downtown Disney by 2.00 and I did every single store (even the one where they sale only stickers). I really felt in love with the one where you can buy stuff for home. I bought some souvenirs for family and friends. I really spend an easy afternoon, taking my time and sitting on the benches to see the beautiful Villas! I’ve planned to dinner at the Rainforest Café and to go at Pleasure Island after, but by 5, I was tired! So, I went back to the hotel where I was pretty much more positive toward the dinner than the last day!

I spend my evening in the pool (it wasn’t raining!!!) and I walked around the resort. It’s so quiet and beautiful at night! I was very impressed by the Country and the Broadway’s sections! I called home (Dad and Mom were so happy to see my so much happier that the last day!) and I went to bed around 9.30. I had a big day ahead tomorrow
