As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Significant meetings!
What a great question!
I first met Steve in 1986. He was teaching a first aid class that I took. We were both married to other people at the time. We became friends, and had the common interest of EMS. In 1989, he got divorced, and started dating someone else. In 1992, my ex and I seperated, and Steve had just broken off his relationship. Good karma and good timing! We started dating in May 1992, and our first vacation was WDW in July 1992!
We got engaged in August, 1995, moved in together in January 1996, married in July 1996, and moved into our new home in December 1996. I can't believe it's almost 8 years already!
He is my soulmate!

Re: Significant meetings!
I first met DH at church camp, I thought he was really

started hanging out with the same people I did.(his
best friend's sister was my best friend) So a year
or so later we started hanging out. So this friday,

Re: Significant meetings!
DH was a friend of a guy one of my friends was dating. I met him at a party one night, and didn't really care for him . Over the next couple of weeks we all started hanging around together, and he really started to grow on me. Now it's 10 years later, and we've been married for 2 . It's a good thing I didn't go with my first impression!

Re: Significant meetings!
I met my sweet hubby back in late 1989 when I went to work for a computer company in Northern VA. We used to say "hi" in the break room. Then I left and went to work for the Gov't. Eventually he was sent to be an onsite contractor in my facility. I was working on a project that was going to involve lots of travel and lots of hard work, and he was assigned to work with me.
After much travel and time spent together on the road, we discovered that we were in love! He even proposed to me while on a trip to Germany!!!
Then, a few years later he came on board with the Gov't as well. When he found out he was being sent to Hawaii for a month, we decided that we wanted to get married there! Hawaii was the location of many of our earlier trips. So I took leave, went to Hawaii with him, and we were married there surrounded by our friends that live on Oahu.

I met Alex online in a trivia game chatroom in 1997. We became friends and then actually met in May 2000 and have been together ever since.

DH and I went to the same church. He had just broken up with another member, and I was free. We dated a month after we met, and got married 5 months later.

Re: Significant meetings!
You guys are cracking me up with these answers! Too funny.
Paul and I met in January 1982, my first semester at 4C's. We were both communications students in TV/Radio Broadcasting, and worked at the college radio station. Our first date was that April - a Police/Bow Wow Wow concert at the Providence, RI Civic Center. We eloped on July 18th, 1986 and are living happily ever after.

Re: Significant meetings!
I met DF when he was 10 and I was 12. He came to sleep over as a friend of my brother. He was sweet even then and we got along great as friends. We would run into each other every once in a while but nothing ever really happened. Then last year he came by for Christmas to visit and brought a girl he was seeing. I was surprisingly sad when he left. It turned out he was only casually dating her and it ended just before my brother and he became partners in a music studio(Yes!! Support your local bands!). I knew I kind of liked him but during the construction phase of the studio he hurt his back and was in the ER. I totally freaked out. Thank God it turned out to be something minor and we've been inseperable ever since.
I really enjoyed all your stories thanks for sharing and thanks for asking Cheryl!

Re: Significant meetings!
I met my husband at an Eastern Star Meeting. Eastern Star is a women's social/charitable organization for the wives, widows, daughters, and sisters of Masons. He was joining(men can belong too but the women are in charge) and I was the one who was escorting him through the initiation. This was in 1996. We didn't have our first date until 1997. We got engaged in 1998 and married in 1999.

Re: Significant meetings!
I met my hubby 12 years ago when I began working at the same restaurant as him. We were both dating other people, but became good friends and would go to Denny's after work for a bite to eat and complain about our relationships. After several months of being good friends one night after a BLT at Denny's he had drove me back to my car and before I got out of his car he planted a kiss on me. OOLLAAA LA! It all changed from there and I saw him in a new light. We moved in together about four months later and have been together since. We were married five years ago this upcomming July.

Re: Significant meetings!
Great question Cheryl,
I meet DH when I worked for a buying club. I called him and sent him the info and he came into the club to hear the "info", he waited for me outside, but I was working late, so he left. I took his # home, very illegal, and called and asked him out on our First Date. 2 weeks later he asked if I would take care of him when he was 65 and retired and I told him how does he know we would even know each other when we were that old, unless he was asking me somthing? 3 days later we were shopping for diamonds, 2 months later I moved in and Dec of 1995 we were married, Honeymooned at at WDW of course.
Next year we will celebrate 10 years of marriage and 2 DS!
Pam

Re: Significant meetings!
I met my husband at a horse racetrack. I was working as a teller taking bets and he was working as security. It was the best paying night job I could find as I was paying my way throught Graduate school and doing my student teaching at the same time. We went on our first date to a nice Italian place in the North End, and then he took me to see Aladdin. He gave me a glass Aladdin figurine as a present. He left the next day for a family trip to Disney World. When he came home it was close to Valentine's Day, and on our date for Valentine's Day he gave me a beautiful gold Minnie/ Mickey bracelet. We were engaged a 1 1/2 years later, and Married a year after that. Jasmine and Aladdin were the cake topper for our wedding cake, our first dance was "A Whole New World", and of course, we went to Disney World for our Honeymoon!
Thanks Cheryl for the smile today!
