As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: A very very very very very sad day and a question for you
The house was emptied this morning. . .ack. Not only that but, it's freezing here and snowing! We have rubbermaid totes, and with our storage area of the basement, the tree will just stand at attention until next year (for those with faux trees--is this okay, or am I going to regret this for some reason?).

Re: A very very very very very sad day and a question for you
Disney Fan, I would cover your faux tree with a sheet...unless your basement is dust free. Believe it or not standing trees will gather dust over the period of a year. I worked at a Christmas store for three years..and we would occasionally strip the trees down and get a yard blower out to dust them off.
To answer Steves question: We store our stuff in the "little house" which is a small house my husbands grandmother lived in. It is next to the in-laws house in town. So we have to shuttle it 8 miles. Two of my full size trees are boxed and the other three I just put in stands in a corner of the house, I dont worry about covering them because we throw them in the back of the pickup and the dust blows on off befrore they get to thier destination. The tree ornaments and MISC STUFF are all placed in The "plastic totes- of varying sizes- Each of the outside of the boxes is labeled with the Room they came out of.Thius the stuff i had to take down to put stuff up can return to its proper place- The inside lid of the box has the Christmas contents listed- not highly specific. But this year I am going to a master coding system with - Letter and number- with letter designating room and a master sheet /I am a little concerned with the quantity of what we have accumalated over 27 years, that I need to do an inventory. I also have a calendar of next year and which rooms will be done in what order so that I may put the first out as the last in when I take it to storage.Something I didnt do this year adn could have saved some time storing it wiser.. knowing that I have 4 boxes for the studio on my master will let me know i have them all to do the job I need. I know this sounds a bit over excessive , but I get joy from the whole process....in fact I will be departing this Thursday to Charleston SC to "unChristmas the Really big house that I decorate on the historic battery. Talk about a system.Have been using master coding on that for last 8 years... It will be a long day of work with a three man crew, but I get to play for three days also, and am a guest in the house while I am there- tough job but somebody's gotta do it(been doing it for near 20 years. To just walk out of my bedroom door onto the porch and watch the sunrise over the Charleston harbor-ITs kinda like living the "travel channel for a few days and knowing "what behind the scenes magic realy means labor wise Next to the AKL its one of my favorite places to spend some time- and its all the more magical at Christmas time.
Oh yeah you asked about storage....oh well just call me rambling PEG

Re: A very very very very very sad day and a question for you
We wrap our tree up with blankets and store it in our storage unit that has ac/heat with everything on it. Next year just re-arrange a little and presto we up and ready. I have never had the problem with dust yet. I hope it stays this way.

Re: A very very very very very sad day and a question for you
We get a real tree, so that is already out back in the woods. All the other decorations get boxed up (into office paper boxes) and are stored in the basement on racks (everything is labeled - lights, bulbs, figurines, etc.) Very easy access and able to find it no problem.

Re: A very very very very very sad day and a question for you
We store most everything in plastic containers (6 50+ gal ones and 9 24 gal) put the tree in a storage bag, put all that in the garage. The candles, ceramic pieces, and special decorations go in a closet in the house.

Re: A very very very very very sad day and a question for you
Cardboard boxes for us, and they are stored on shelves in our basement. Haven't done it yet, mind you. On the list for this week. We've been throwing a cold around, so noone has quite felt like doing much of anything. I'll pick at it this week, and then I'm sure we'll wrap up therest of it this weekend. Its a huge job!

Re: A very very very very very sad day and a question for you
We have a few rubbermaid containers for the tree decorations. I buy ornaments anytime we are away. Yes, we have a few Disney items. All the ornaments need to wrapped in tissue paper. We also use big boxes from previous presents like the karoeke machine my daughter wanted 3 years ago. Unfortunetly we have a small house so all the boxes get stuffed in the crawl space next to the luggage in our bedroom. Although, we left our outside lights on for another week. I couldn't put it all away just yet.

Re: A very very very very very sad day and a question for you
We have about 30 of the regular sized Rubbermade totes filled ornaments and decorations and two of the huge ones for garland and other large items. My sister has been giving us Spode Christmas Tree china every year since we've been married and that all goes back into the original boxes in more Rubbermade bins. It all goes under the basement steps or in the basement corner behind the washer and dryer.

Re: A very very very very very sad day and a question for you
I am happy to say that my 4 trees are still up. DH says they can stay up until this weekend (when we have more time to put them away.) My Disney tree will get wrapped with a sheet and put in the attic as is. The one in the kitchen will be stripped of all Christmas stuff and left in the corner and adorned with seasonal ribbons and stuff. The 3footer will stay on the radiator for now. The main tree will have to be dealt with: White House ornaments, Longaberger Pewter ornaments and other special stuff is all repackeged into original boxes, glass balls returned, ribbon wrapped . . . all are stored in rubbermaid toted up in the attic. Lights will be torn away this year. Tree boxed and put up until next year. All Christmas baskets will also find their way to the spare room, so I can enjoy them all year long.
Pam
as I reply all trees are plugged in, I will enjoy this as long as possible

I was scared to read this!!! Whew! Nothing really serious here thank goodness. Like most everyone, we use the rubbermaid containers for all our decorations.

Re: A very very very very very sad day and a question for you
The week between Christmas and New Year's was very rough in my house. DH hospitalized with pneumonia, I had a car accident, etc, so being that I was feeling down, I took down all the decorations while I was home waiting for news on DH. Everything was down by 12/29.
All decorations get stored in a room in my garage, all except my collectible DisneyLand ornament, they will go on display now on a tree like thingy that is designed to display them (does that make sense? )

Re: A very very very very very sad day and a question for you
You all seem so organized....
I am going to have to go out and get some rubermaid storage bins. I hope that they still have the ones that fit wrapping paper as I bought too much this year and have about 4 rolls that need to be stored.
Maybe if I get adventurous, I will go out tomorrow and see what I can find.

Re: A very very very very very sad day and a question for you
5 large rubbermaid totes for the decorations and the tableclothes, santa hats, napkins, towels, etc.
2 extra-large totes for some of the animated (Disney mostly) charcters
4 under bed storage boxes of ornaments
5 cardboard boxes of stuff
It all goes in the crawl space (it's sealed, and has never had a leak, so things stay dry)
the artificial tree that we have not had in the house for 8 years is in the 3rd parking space
And, the bad thing? We have MORE Halloween ornaments than we have Christmas!
and 2 cardboard boxes of the foil-link chain my DH has been working on for over 40 years
and one totes of the antique "ball" garland and ornaments from MY great grandmother
oh, yeah, a couple of totes of lights, (flashing, bubble, charcter, steady, purple, multi colored, with music players on the cord, large, and small, white, blue, red)
