As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

It looks like Linda and I will be visiting WDW during the MouseFest activities. Can't wait to meet everybody in person and participate in some of the activities.

Adventurers: James and Linda D, ages  ld enough!
Very experienced with over 20 trips under our belts.
Cruise: No, we're not cruising.
Resort/Hotel: Our second stay at the Beach Club Villas in a studio unit (love the Disney Vacation Club!)
Celebration: Do we need a reason? We always try to go to WDW sometime in December to enjoy the decorations and special holiday activities.
Meetings/Events: We will try to attend as many of the online activities as possible, as long as they don't interfere with our pin trading! Any pin meets that week, and we're there! |

We try to go the week after Thanksgiving every year, but will be leaving just as many of you are arriving from your cruise. We'll see who we can, though!!
DATES: Nov 30-Dec 6(?)
ADVENTURERS: Carole, 41 DH Clint 43 (maybe Willie Sam, our dog...not sure yet)joining up with Carole's Mom, 70, sister Susie 45, friend Cheryl, plus 2 of my cousins boys, Jacob, 10 and Jonathan, 8.
RESORT: the family is thinking of the Contemporary or Beach Club. We are too poor from building our log home, so we will probably end up at Fort Wilderness (we love it there, anyway)
CRUISE: nope
CELEBRATION: I just love Christmas at WDW!!
MEETS/EVENTS: Whatever we can fit in. We'll be wearing our Passporter pins so don't hesitate to say HI. I hope to do MVMCP 12.4, if that's the first one. Also, I want to meet my "neighbor", Tiki!!!(Okay, so I know now Tiki won't be there. We'll get together someday!)

Oh yes! It is finally official! Plane ticket is in hand (love those skymiles!) and resort is booked!
Date: Arriving in Fl on 11/17, and spending Thanksgiving with my folks in Bradenton over on the west coast. Arriving in WDW on 12/1 and staying until 12/9 (no skymile award tickets available for 12/7 or 12/8 - poor me, forced to spend an extra two days in WDW [img]graemlins/cry2.gif[/img] ).
Adventurers: So far this is a solo trip (my first one to WDW), but I betcha at least one of my kids will try to get in on this.
Cruise: Unfortunately not this time...but one of these years.
Resort/Hotel: All Star Music: Calypso
Celebration: Just because this week is my favorite time to go, and to meet with fellow passporters again, after having only one day to spend at the last passporter meet.
Meetings/Events: I plan to join as many events as possible, and maybe join up with some other solo travelers for a meal or two (Boma, anyone?). I will have on my passporter pin, and I'll just be roaming around EVERYWHERE I WANT! Looking so forward to spending time with others who love the magic as much as I do.

Adventurers: David, Alan and Todd will be joining me for the weekend portion. My sister and her family will also be there the entire trip.
Cruise: No, because I am on NYE cruise on the Magic. Cat. 3 suite!
Resort/Hotel: My 'boys' and I will be at the Boardwalk Inn. My sister at All Star Music.
Celebration: Mousefest. Is there any other reason?
Meetings/Events: There are SO many to fit in. I plan to mostly hang with folks from another site but will attend at least 1 meet from each of the Disney communities in addition to the Big Meet. MVMCP on both the 4th & 7th.
Special interests: Meeting Jennifer & Dave and Deb Wills.

Adventurers: Just me, that's all, nothing else; Will, age 34, 12 trips to WDW and 1 DCL cruise since 1990.

Resort/Hotel: Off-site: AmeriSuites Lake Buena Vista
Celebration: Celebrating my sanity, which I would not have for long if I didn't get to WDW once in a while.
Meetings/Events: Several Tagrel.com meets and the big meet on Dec 6.

Adventurers: David & Peggy (old enough!) DVC menbers since 1997 - average 2 trips a year to WDW.
Cruise: 11/30 Disney Wonder
Resort/Hotel: Old Key West
Celebration: Early December trip an annual event to celebrate the holidays and meet RAPD folks.
Meetings/Events: Will attend crise events, the large meet and greet at WDW, illumination cruise on 12/5, and maybe other events.
We are looking forward to meeting everyone!

Hi Everyone!
Well, we have had a slight change in plans. We are no longer able to travel in December! [img]graemlins/cry2.gif[/img] As it turns out, I will be 32 weeks pregnant at the time of the Gathering and it is not a safe time for me to travel.
As disappointed as we all are about cancelling the trip, we are thrilled about the new arrival! Maybe we'll meet you all next year. Have a great time and I look forward to reading all your trip reports!
