(Everest) Challenge: Accepted - PTR - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Great start! Good luck on the training. My one friend wants me to do the color run with her but I told her I don't run unless people are chasing me LOL

So to really start this PTR off right, I have to confess something to you all. Not a single thing about this trip resembles any bit of the original trip that I had planned, aside from wanting to spend a lot of time in Epcot at the F&G Festival.
This trip was originally planned in April, solo, at Jambo House with Narcoossee's and Sci Fi being the highlight of my ADRS.
Well, clearly that isn’t what’s happening based on my first post. We got that great deal on the cruise, and then since airfare hadn’t been booked for this trip yet (Cody wasn’t sure if he wanted to come or not) we decided it was moveable and let’s go for the cruise! So we booked that and then pushed our DVC reservation back to the last possible weekend when my AP would still work (It expires May 6th). This is where we lost Jambo house, but were able to secure Kidani Studio Savannah view. No major problem there at all!
Then I got to work rebooking the ADRs, with no real hot ticket items there was no issue there either. Also, this was still a solo trip at this time, but I made all my ADRs for two knowing I have a lot of friends still working there.
Finally I learn that this is the Everest Challenge weekend! It seemed like fate since I was already staying at AKL and was working on participating in a 5k each month. I asked my mom if she would get registration for me for my Christmas present and I was set. I asked my friend/Beachbody coach Patrick if he would want to run it with me and he was in! (He’s the Y&B Manager I used to work with) He had recently gotten pretty serious about health and fitness but hadn’t tried running yet so I figured it would be a great beginning thing for us to do together. This trip was shaping up nicely after all
Shortly after that my Uncle (who actually runs and does Marathons) informed me he registered for the run too! So he would be joining us for the weekend AND he had an ADR secured for that Friday night at Le Cellier that I was welcome to join. Okay so not quite the solo trip anymore, but my Uncle got his own room, a 1 bedroom villa but without the view over at Kidani with me! A few weeks later, I learned my friend Tabitha had signed up for the run as well, so now it’s shaping up to be quite a great time!
Now that I had actual people committed to running this race, I knew I had to get serious about my training.
Training Update: I completed C25K Week 1 with no major problems and am working on Week 2. I don’t mind the running at all, what I have a hard time with is doing the same thing 3x a week, especially now that it’s pitch black when I wake up (when I like to workout) and I hate treadmills so it’s much easier for me to stick to when it’s sunny and nice! But I’m determined to really try to get through this!
My 5k walk at Disneyland was actually the same weekend last year! (I hope these are sized right, Photobucket is being a poop!) This was so much fun and what helped me realize 5ks can be fun and don't have to be a race for the fastest time

So the next thing to really majorly change was that I underestimated Patrick’s competitive side. He went from novice runner to speed racer, and I think at this point has signed up for 5-6 Run Disney events. He took this from a fun event for old friends to a highly competitive race that he wanted to win. I am what seems to be referred to as a “Cupcake Runner” I like to do these events for the FUN and the atmosphere and the experience and I workout so I can eat more, well, cupcakes! I’m not really competitive by nature, I just want to run my best and not struggle the whole way. So I mentioned this to Patrick and he assured me he wouldn’t leave me behind, but that he wouldn’t be upset at all if I wanted to find another partner (this all happened within about the month between me deciding I want to run and about a week into registration, so we hadn’t committed yet) and that he would be happy to be able to really run the race with his new found love of running.
So this is where Cody finally comes in, my trusty running partner here at home about ˝ the time. He seemed quite jealous of all the fun my mom and I had on our Holiday Hopefuls trip and especially of all the great food we were enjoying, so I asked if he would like to go with me and do the 5k with me! He had JUST started a new job the week after Christmas, so he had to wait a few weeks before he could be sure he could tag along, but after getting settled in the new position and getting a feel for his policies, he was in!
Even at home we love our nice food and date nights
And he does all kinds of corny runs with me
Shortly after we booked our flights and registered for the run! We will be “Run-it Ralph”! We had tossed around a few ideas for this trip. Potentially heading over to Universal so Cody could get in some more thrill rides (and because there are several new things since my last trip, maybe DisneyQuest for his nerdy side, maybe a waterpark since it was SO HOT in September when we went last time he wants some reprise from Florida heat! Plus Cody has some ideas on where he’d like to eat and what he’d like to do (which is so nice for me, because I planned our last one completely without input!) Stay tuned to see if any of these ideas come to fruition
Wait wait wait, these aren’t enough changes for you? Well just about a month ago, my grandparents decide they are ALSO tagging along on this trip. They are actually going Sunday-Sunday and at this point still haven’t told me where they are staying. I was able to include them on some of my ADRs which I will get into on our day-by-day plans. However, this could potentially change again… last week my grandpa fell and fractured his foot/ankle in several places and is currently recovering and working on PT. Pixies please for a speedy recovery so they can come on the trip with us.
Several more changes happened but mostly the days/times of things, so I’m not going to bore you with those details. Just know that last year when I booked this, none of these plans you will eventually see were what I had pictured in my head one bit! Also, Cody has not met my Grandparents and Uncle yet, so this will be interesting!
Wow, that's a lot of changes! Mind you, it sounds like it's all worked out great for you.
I'm kind of jealous of your training, as I love the idea of doing a Disney 5K one day, but with my current ankle problems, there is no way I'm able to do anything and running longer term may not help my ankle, so it may never happen.
