Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I'm late in finding your TR, but caught up now! Your pace is awesome, absolutely no worries. : I'm happy if I can finish any training long run in the 11:something range. Usually it ends up in the 12 minute range, which is perfectly happy for me! So if you can maintain that 11:something, kudos to you!

I'm glad you're not "totally" alone in this trip and will have John for company. I remember you were concerned about being solo. We'll call it semi-solo. Just like Beth, I will also be at Epcot on Saturday after the Half. I'm Goofy this year, so I'll be taking it easy that afternoon. But Sunday, I plan on celebrating a bit while there!!!

Continued good luck with the rest of your training. It's just about taper time!

Good job on the 11 miles! Did you get the email telling you to download and print your race waiver?

We will be at EPCOT on both Saturday and Sunday, so maybe we can meet up then!
I'm glad I'm not the only family! It is hard, as I was the one who was kind of stepped on. I am really trying to forgive and move on, but it's been hard. I didn't get the email, but I saw Tanya's post, and I checked it out. I'm officially on there! I would love to meet up!!

You've got me nervous about your MiL coming through for help with the children now. If she couldn't commit without reservations in AUGUST!
I'm glad they are coming along, too. I can always check restaurants near where we are to see if there is anything available. Without children, it shouldn't be too bad. And just wait about the MIL thing...

I am really glad he is coming. It will make the experience much more fun. I would love to meet up with all the women who have given me so much encouragement. I hope to see you there! While the 11 mile run was a bit torturous with the snow, I realized that I would be able to do it!

Oh, well... If I can do it, pretty much anyone can. By the way, love your new picture of you and Mark on formal night (although the Segway one always made me laugh...)

Running Scared
Part 3--A Few Nice Changes!

Training Update: This week, thankfully is a short run week. 30 minutes yesterday, 30 minutes tomorrow and 3 miles on Saturday, which is about 30 minutes. With Christmas next week, it will be nice to have a a little break. Next Saturday is my last long run before the race!

After John and I signed up and got squared away, I spoke with my dad. He and my mom live closer to Orlando than I do (in Louisiana), and they enjoy heading down to the World every year. They just got back from a trip in October. I take credit for reintroducing them to Disney--they have traveled there with our family every time we have gone. We will not see them at Christmas this year (usually every year they come out to Salt Lake to spend Christmas with us; it has to do partly with the fight my sister and I had). I think my dad just wanted to see us and an excuse to head back to Disney. So he coyly asked if he might come along and join us and cheer John and I on. I was happy to have him, so now he is coming along on the trip! My dad is a bit of a hotel snob, and only likes to stay at the Wilderness Lodge, so I was shocked when he said he made reservations at CBR.

In October, my sister finally told me that she was pregnant (yay!) and that was why she was so hesitant to sign up. She didn't know she pregnant in August, but they were trying, and she didn’t want to run a half pregnant. She debated just coming along and cheering, but she would be five months pregnant and wouldn’t be able to go on most of the rides we would be riding. I agreed that it was a lot of money for her to spend to just sit on benches and wait for everyone to come out of rides, and she had the best excuse.

I decided I would buy all of us tent passes to the Race Retreat as a thank you to John for coming and to my dad for cheering us. The Race Retreat tent is temperature controlled, has food and some character greetings, plus lockers and things for the runners to store stuff they aren’t using. I called my youngest brother, Chris, who lives in Denver, to see if he might like to come cheer us on (he is also a bachelor and doesn’t have children). His birthday is January 9, so I told him he could spend his birthday at Disney! After about a month of “thinking about it,” he signed up to join us as well. He is not running (he says the only sport John can beat him at is long-distance running, so he doesn’t want to run), but staying in the Race Retreat tent with my dad. He and John are sharing a room, and my dad and I each have our own rooms.

Up next: It wouldn’t be a Disney trip without complications!

Oh wow, it really is a family affair! Very cool though. We will have to figure out a time to meet on Saturday - Beth and I (I think) will be strolling around Epcot!

To clarify: currently, Beth and I do not have plans to meet on Sat. but I think we are both planning on being there. So we could all meet up - but not for drinks (yet) since she and I have the marathon on Sunday.

You have to buy them a pass, and they have to be a part of the ChEAR Squad. It isn't cheap, but I wanted to do it as a thank you for them coming.

Running Scared
Part 4--It wouldn’t be a Disney trip without complications!

Training Update: This week I have not been as devoted. I ran for 30 minutes on Tuesday, but Thursday night we discovered that our 2 year old had a popcorn kernel stuck in her nose! And it had probably been up there for a week OR MORE!! She had been very grumpy and had a yucky nose for a few days, but we had no idea. So Thursday was spent trying to get the popcorn kernel out (to no avail...we had to take her to the doctor the next day when they finally got it out twenty minutes later...) Today I have a three mile run scheduled, which shouldn't be an issue. And MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone!

PTR:
When I scheduled my trip, I thought it would work out great--kids in school Thursday and Friday, Phil could be home with them on Saturday and Sunday. Imagine my surprise when, after I booked the trip, I discovered my older kids (3 boys, ages 13, 10, and 6) had a half day at school on Thursday and were out on Friday! My 2 year old daughter still had preschool on Friday. I felt really, really bad that I was going to Disney without the kids, especially on a weekend when they didn’t have school. So, for about a day, I toyed with the idea of bringing them with me. My husband nixed the idea, which saved me the guilt of making the decision not to bring them. But really, it would have been hard. They would have to be alone in a hotel room from about 4:00 am until almost 10:00 am. I can’t imagine what a nightmare that would be and how much I would worry!

Several weeks ago, I found out that my BIL (my husband’s brother) was having some MAJOR issues in his family. My MIL had to go down to his house and help with his kids. These issues show no signs of improving, and I started to really worry that MIL would no longer be able to help with my kids. I realize this is very self-centered of me, as my nieces and nephews really need her more right now, but I was quietly panicking. I didn’t say anything to my MIL as I didn’t want to add to her stress. But shortly after I found out about the situation, my MIL called and said she wouldn’t be able to help me in January because she will need to catch up on things after being gone so long. I still don’t really understand this logic, as she doesn’t work and we were still six weeks away from my trip when she called, but maybe she is sick of watching kids and was trying to "nicely" get out of watching my children.

Anyway, I scrambled. I have a sitter coming Thursday when I have to leave for the airport until DH gets home. Friday is divided. Elizabeth (my 2 year old) has preschool, so my friend is coming to get her and take her to and from school. William, the 6 year old, is going to a friend’s house for the day. Phillip (13) and Patrick (10) can stay by themselves. Once Elizabeth gets home (around noon), another neighbor is coming to feed the kids lunch and put Elizabeth down for a nap. She will check on them sporadically until Elizabeth wakes up, then she will take Elizabeth back to her house. She will feed all the kids dinner and take care of them until DH gets home. Saturday DH should be home all day (unless he has to see patients, but Phillip can babysit for an hour or so). Sunday is difficult, as my DH has meetings at church very early and can’t get the kids ready for church and bring them. Thankfully, my MIL called and said she thought she could help on Sunday (I think she felt bad about backing out on me). So she is coming over to feed the kids breakfast, get them ready for church, take them to church, and stay with them until DH gets home.

Patrick, my 10 year old, is a competitive gymnast, and we did not get his gymnastics schedule until the first week of December. And yes, his first meet is on Saturday, January 12. Bummer. So I have a sitter coming on Saturday so DH can take him to his meet. I had a feeling it would be that weekend, and I hate that I am missing his first Level 6 meet, but I will be at the others so I am trying not to beat myself up too badly about it.

Up Next: Final Preparations!

Wow, that's a lot of kid-sitting you have squared away! Sounds like you've got it all covered though. I've had to do that too - set up playdates and have neighbors help out here and there just to cover a few hours. Ironically, I've had to do that when my DD and I were out of state for her gymnastics meets! She's in rhythmic gymnastics, just level 4, but the meets are always inconveniently timed. In fact, they'll be having a practice meet that Saturday the 12th! My DH will do his first hair bun for her.

I wouldn't worry about missing those mid-week runs too much. As long as you still get in the long ones on the weekend, you'll be fine. And it's about taper time anyway, so really no worries! Your body will know what to do come race day. BTW, did you see the final instructions came out? The corrals are being released 7 minutes apart this year! Usually it's 5 minutes apart. This just means a longer wait for those in the back of the bus. (Last few races that was me in the last corral. For the first year ever, I'm in corral D!) Anyway, just thought I'd share. Continued good luck with your training!
