The Two Week "Mini" Disney Vacation - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Your plans look great so far. Hoping to get my wife hooked enough that she will want to invest in DVC even if we only do a resale. Followed your other thread and not suprised your driving
Love explaination of screen name and play on title for this thread
We have had no regrets for buying a DVC. It's an investment. This will be our first use but we are looking forward to MANY more! (and yes, two polish women constitue a hoard!)

My friend Jess (Jessie092408) calls me Miss Sparkle Pants...which I .
You plans look great so far! Love your mini-coop, that is so funny too! We haven't been to Boma, my DH is such a simple eater...hamburgs, hot dogs, chicken, steak...plain eater. I think Boma is just a tad to exotic for him. Maybe even for me, I am a pretty plain and simple eater, just not as bad as him. DD-7 is even more adventurous than him.
Can't wait to hear more of your plans! Great start!
Glad you found me Sparks! I guess I don't know YOUR real name. I think I just picked up on Sparky (or whatever variation hits me at the time ) but it works.
I really enjoy "simple" - I do love my steak (last year we had a steak practically at every place!) The way I cook could be classified as "rustic" or "down home" and apparently we enjoy eating (as evidenced by our size as pictured above). The nice thing about Boma is that it is a buffet- you take what looks good to you. I do tend to be more adventurous esp when I'm on the DDP because I've already paid!
More ahead. DH (chukkerb) may be joining in the report from his perspective.

Today we are planning to do the Wild Africa Trek. We haven't booked yet because they haven't opened those dates yet so this plan is still soft. Now, a little info - I'm not good with heights or bridges. (Princess Sharon said I probably won't do it) BUT I am determined to get over this because I sooooo want to do this trek! AK is one of my favorites and I love the safari! I did look at the POV on YouTube for the trek and I can so do this. (There's a couple of things I don't normally do but am planning on "getting over" this trip - I'm going to be like "Bert - the Conquerer")
Anyhow - after an am WAT then we will spend the rest of our time in AK proper. Later, we will return to the room to freshen up before we go on to our 6 pm ADR for dinner at Artist Point. This is a first. We were going to go there last year for our sweetheart dinner (which is no longer offered ) but instead we went to Citricos. So I am looking forward to this signature restaurant. After dinner - probably back to the hotel and maybe Wishes from the observation deck/bar at the top of BLT?
Most of this trip is going to be done "on the fly" so to speak. We do have plans but we are not commando tourists by any means. I just can't get into the "at 8:14 we need to be outside of MK for rope drop and then at 9:02 we run to get a fastpass for Splash Mtn,"
No offense to those who do plan that way. Last April, when I went with my BFF, she had the day planned out that way with itineraries copied for each one of us. We followed it for the first 5 mins. We went to Epcot and her itinerary said to go get FP for Soarin and then head back to TT. Well, I saw the Character Spot open with only 3 people so those FP's just had to wait! Kinda threw a wrench in those plans!
And with the AP's we can hop if we want. DH specifically wants some "downtime" and this may mean time for naps, pools or DTD.
“We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.” - Walt Disney
More great plans! The WAT sounds so cool, but I am so afraid of heights and I really don't think I could get over my fear of heights crossing those suspended bridges. : I applaud you if you do it!
I love your PTR so far! Very glad you decided to do one! I would comment more specifically but my break is over, and I have to get back to work! Talk to you soon, I am sure.

Sounds good Coop! I would definately take it easier if I knew I was always coming back with DVC.
I am a planner but only plan what parks which days and ADR's. Otherwise, we do what we want and I always have the policy of nothing is set in stone...except ADR's.
How great for Chuck to maybe come on and give some comments and what not too? Very .
Hehehe you can call me any form of Sparky you want! I don't really ever mention my name on here, as I don't know why, but I want to choose who knows my name, and not have it posted for all to see. I know, I'm just a weirdo. LOL It's all good though, bc I truly love my nickname which was completely Jess. She emailed me last year about our PP meet, and she says, "I just realized I don't know your name, unless you just want me to call you Sparky." LOL So, I became Sparky. I still like Miss Sparkle Pants though ...it's my special nickname from Jess. LOL

Thanks for clarification about a horde. Love that only plan for the biggies of the day and let the rest of the day play out as it will. Can't wait to here the rest. We are also doing WAT I was able to book 2 months prior to month we will do the tour ie we are doing in Sep I booked in early July My wife is afraid of heights as well but when she saw safety netting under the bridge she decided she can do it I'll give you a shout after we get back and let you know how we did on it.
Sounds like a great plan for AK! I have given up on commando touring--we like to take it easy and do the things we want to do slowly. We take lots of time at meals and enjoy those afternoon naps!
Loving this PTR. The bar/lounge at the observation deck at BLT is AWESOME! We had drinks and then watched the fireworks last year. It is definitely a different view of Wishes. I'd never realized how far those fireworks are actually from the castle!

I think I will be ok. I just don't plan on looking down while on the bridge! There is netting, and you are hooked by a bungee. And this IS Disney we are talking about - so their "rickety bridge" is actually something made of steel and can't be taken down by the worst hurricane!

I agree! I know that now, last year DH started to nod off every time we sat down for a show in a cool place (CoP, FoTLK, etc)

Yes, DVC makes it very easy - "We can do that next time" becomes a frequent phrase. I know what you mean about your nickname. Mine has been Coop since grade school, and now even DH calls me that and I it! But yours is going to have to stay Sparks until I can come up with something original like "Little Miss Sparkle Pants".

I know, right? I figure it is a controlled situation. They aren't going to let anything happen - really. Thanks!

We start with the meals and then plan around them! We figure everything will still be there when we go back.

Thanks! We saw Wishes from CG last year - I just popped this idea though to DH and he said "great - sounds great" so now I'm excited! I read that you can ONLY go up there if you are staying there on DVC points.
