Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm​. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I've lost 21.6 pounds in 10 weeks, and the first 15 or so pounds came off without any real effort from me because I stopped drinking soda. I used to drink regular Pepsi and/or Coke, so it was all sugar and empty calories. And honestly, it wasn't that hard to give up after the initial withdrawal headache.

I've also been watching my carb intake (I was recently diagnosed with diabetes) and have been eating mostly fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat dairy. I've almost entirely given up processed sugars, and I feel a million times better.

Stop eating when you are satisfied, but not full. Use a small plate.
I also have a cheat day every other weekend.

I lost weight by eating 5 small meals a day and cutting out the salt in my diet. By eating the right (Good for you Foods that Beth talked about) you don't feel hungry. As for exercise, if you don't like the gym just walk or maybe even swim. Summer and bathing suit season is here.

A year and a half ago, I lost 15 pounds just by making small adjustments in my diet. Smaller meals, healthier foods, and less snacks. I really need a snack before bed or I will wake up in the middle of the night hungry, so I started eating a 100 calorie bag of microwave popcorn. It really fills you up!

Unfortunately, I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia Syndrome and Rheumatoid Arthritis last summer. I had to start taking medications that made me put on weight, and made me more hungry - talk about a double whammy! I put on 25 pounds. I am working to try and lose what I put on (and hopefully more). What really helps me is to write down everything I eat, with the number of calories. You would be surprised at how hard you try to avoid writing down anything else. I was really hungry this morning in between breakfast and lunch, but looking at my list, I didn't want to add anything else - so I made it to lunch!

I do think some exercise helps. I have a Wii Fit game and balance board. The activities feel more like games, and the Aerobic ones will really help with losing weight. I haven't been on it lately because I had a pretty bad flare up (as us Fibro people call them) that actually lasted for a few weeks. I am hoping to get back on it for some step aerobics and rhythm boxing, soon!

Everyone has great ideas posted here and the only thing that I have to add is that you need to set small goals at first. That seems to work well for me. Don't get depressed and fall into rutts. I have a habit of doing that and I am trying to work on that. Good luck with the weight loss. If it helps I am struggling right along with you.

I just started the Biggest loser program. I guess I will se how it goes. Small steps and goals to start. I want to lose at least 50 lbs. before our cruise in November. It has not been difficult so far and the food is easy and cheap for the most part.

I actually read a book about the 90/10 diet and it was great. I also did LA Weightloss which was all about calorie counting and eating healthy food (it could have been about eating their supplements, but I did it without). I lost 35 lbs due in most part to having to be accountable for weekly weigh ins. While I think you can lose weight without it - even without exercise - joining a group or at least having a buddy to lose weight does help. Get your friends and family on board with your goals so they don't derail you.

Some people bring a different card with a mag strip to use for the safe and hide it in the room so that it's not off at the pool with someone if/when they need it.

Years and years ago, we found a diet program called the Rotation Diet. It would swing between medium, low and very low calorie plans, with an even blend of fats, carbs, etc. The "everything in moderation" concept. And 20 years ago (I did says y's & y's) it was one of the first to offer "forgiveness". The author didn't say to punish yourself on Monday for that piece of cake on Saturday. Instead, think back with fondness.

Unfortunately, it's that fondness of food that got me where I was. But we all know what he meant.

Here's what has worked for me in the past:
No more soda, not even diet (it's worse for you than regular)
Count calories, there are numerous websites that give calorie content for almost every food there is. I stay within 1500 calories.
NO FOOD after 7pm.
Light exercise, like walking or biking.

That's it. Eat good foods. I never felt "deprived" because if i wanted ice cream; i made room in my day for it so i didn't go over 1500 calories. I was very aware of what i ate and made better choices simply because i knew i had a "limit". Good luck, i know you can do it...
