Anyone been to the Tour in your city? - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I was so excited to hear the Tour was coming to Vancouver in January. Being Disney, I was expecting a big celebration, as everyone else is, sad so many are disappointed.

Because my kids have half day on Oct 15, when it's in Charlotte, I was tempted to take them for that Celebration. But, I am not driving 2 1/2 hours for balloons. So sad that this is turning out to be a lot about nothing.
I took my son to the one in Pittsburgh yesterday. What a MAJOR WASTE!! I picked my son up at school, he did his homework in the car while thinking he was going to get to see some characters and a balloon (like they said on the website). We got there and it was SO LAME!!! Really, I was hyped up myself for something special -- something a little exciting and it was all for nothing! There were CM's walking around with gold "invitations" and said you could enter this code to see if you won something......well, upon further reading it was for the lovely digital prize that no one can seem to find where to put the code in. Another CM at the computer kiosk asked if we were going to Disney in 2009 for anyones b-day and I said we were going in December, so probably not for my b-day or my sons birthday, but maybe for my husbands, so we signed him up and the printer there spit out a paper that had a bar code on it -- something you can do from the comfort of your very own home.....THAT WAS IT, no balloons, no characters, no little something special -- NOTHING.
There was no mention of this tour going on either -- TV, newspaper, radio -- NOWHERE.
Disney, if anyone out there is listening -- you really need to step this up.
I will say my husband said as we were leaving......"WHAT did you expect......this is Pittsburgh" Well, what I expected was something more than a walkby for nothing.
I happened by the one on NY as I got out of work early so I walked up the block to see if it was really anything special and as others said...there were CM's handing out balloons and the invites (but as others said there was no where to put the code) and there was a computer set up so you could register...
There was also a few people with clipboards asking questions....that was it. I am glad that I did not make this into a special day for the kids to meet me at work or anything bucuase it was not worth it...
Took a balloon since I had to walk by anyway but it was not worth going out of your way.
IMO the whole "theme" for next year sounds bad. I could get in free for my birthday? WOOPEEEDEEDOO. I still have to pay for food, the hotel, my family to get in that day...it doesn't cost them a thing to have you in their park and they actually end up making money off of you. It feels like a letdown. I was upset about the tour not coming to our city but now I guess I'm not so much.

Milwaukee's tour was on Oct. 1. After many attempts at googling the tour, I couldn't find anything. I then called the Disney Store at Southridge Mall. They reported it would run from 10-3 p.m., it would be the passing out of balloons, the computer, etc. Also, no specials that day in the Disney Store. I was off that day, but had heard that people were not impressed. Since the kids couldn't come with me, I decided to pass on the day.
I agree that Disney did a poor planning job. I told my mom that Disney should have hired me to do their marketing...my thought was to have this "parade" in the afternoon so kids were out of school (kids have a way of convincing parents ), ending in the parking lot of a mall where there is a Disney Store. My suggestion was to have brochures available inside the store, plenty of park tickets available to purchase, copies of popular Disney books, such as PP! As well as having specials going on inside the store. Everyone would have come out a winner and it would have gotten people pumped and hooked on the idea of going.
Anyway, hopefully the getting in free for my b-d will make up for this whole thing that I was SO excited for!

Just a mention about the code on the balloons/invitations...
When you first register on the site, there is a line to enter the code. So really for anyone already registered (disneyaholics like us), we cannot go back and the use the code. The code gives a virtual prize that we can alredy get (wallpaper, etc.) The best use of the invitation is to give it to a non-Disney friend/family member.
Again for us disneyaholics, I wish Disney would have organized the tours better. It's disheartening to hear the differences in each city. But for a non-Disney family walking by, I'm sure the kids are happy to get a Mickey balloon.
Hi everyone! This is my first post. I also attended the Pittsburgh stop. Here'e the post I wrote:
Well, here is the update you have been waiting for and it is NOT GOOD. I don't know if this is just a bad experience, but if all the stops are like Pittsburgh I would say do not go out of your way to go. First the Disney website said that the stop would be at the Southside Works. It did not say a time. The only reason I knew the time was because I went to the website for the Southside Works and it said from 4-6. Yesterday I was on DWT and Justin the CMO posted. He mentioned about the tour being in Pittsburgh and he said he thought they would be in downtown at some point during the day in Market Square, which was not posted on the Disney site. I work downtown, but I took the day off because I wouldn't make it back down in time to get to the Southside if I worked today. I take public transporation and I would have had to go home get my car and drive back. Well, I arrived at 4:15 and they were still setting up. There were maybe 10 people in front of me in line. They had computers set up for you to signup and print out your birthday voucher. They handed out an inviation with a code. From what I have heard people have tried the codes that have gone thus far and they are not working. I can't even find where you enter the code. Radio Disney was there and you could spin a wheel and win a prize. I won and it was a Hannah Montana poster and I asked if I could have the temp tatoos that they were giving everyone instead. I began talking to two other adults that were there without children. We were talking to a cast member and asked about the balloons that they were supposed to be giving out. She said that they gave all of them out downtown earlier and they didn't have any left. I was extremely disappointed, not because I needed the balloon, but because I wanted to see the mass of balloons as people were walking around. They didn't advertise the downtown stop, so my feeling was they should have at least saved a 50-100 or whatever amount of balloons for the Southside stop. We then talked to two other cast members and they asked if they could record them asking us "what will we celebrate". We signed a release and they said they will randomly pick people to be on the website. With me luck the only reason they will pick me is because my hair looked bad because I had been running around all day . I took a few pictures and left. The only other thing that I didn't mention was that someone was there on a segway. There were max 50 people there in the 2 hours and I think the fact that the site didn't post the time until today played a role. People were also disappointed because they thought a character would be there. I could have sworn that I had heard that somewhere myself. Well, I wanted to be detailed and I hope if someone goes to another stop they will have a better experience, but for me it was a .
It was in Center City Philadelphia yesterday afternoon. DW saw lots of people walking around with balloons after lunch.
Dh works two blocks away and wandered over after lunchtime and there was nothing but a vehicle w/ a large mickey balloon on top. Nobody else around and no individual mickey balloons.
It's coming to Charlotte Wed. and I had told DH he had to go uptown to see what was going on, but now I guess he can spend his time at work actually working I can't go b/c I teach about 45 minutes away from uptown. But now I don't feel so sad about missing it. Too bad it's not anything bigger
I just went to the website and watched the little videos... Mickey and Goofy are everywhere.... I guess they're only out for a little bit of time and maybe that's why nobody is seeing anything exciting?
