Just bringing our saga up to date-long - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

As a mom of a son with autism--- I'm so sorry to hear that. I really can't see what your son did to deserve an infraction at all. So, he said he ran like the coach's son--c'mon now. If our kids are mainstreamed then they need to be treated in a similar nature. You're child didn't know he couldn't treat him the same as the other kids. Gosh-- I'm so sorry. My child certainly gets the same punishment as other kids in the class. I can't believe they didn't punish him for hitting your child, I'd be furious. It's situations like this that make people dislike mainstreaming. We're lucky, Aidan was so mild that they didn't even consider an alternative. I'm so sorry for your boy. I really don't see what he did to deserve that. And the fact that he can't go because he and Taylor aren't getting along is totally unacceptable. I think you should try to appeal that.

Boy this sounds so unfair. How come the person that laughed and caused Taylor to get so upset to hit Leon didn't get any points? How is that different from what Leon did? And how come Taylor is allowed to go on the trip after hitting someone? So it's ok to hit someone, but don't kid around with someone?
Hi Suzie I feel very bad about your son I believe he should'nt have been punished that bad for that.. I understand about autism I have a 12 year old with asperger syndrome a mild form of autism. I dont know have bad this child is but its safe to say he cant be that bad if your son didnt know. I dont believe that the child should'nt get punished to me he seems to know right from wrong. Maybe the child has other issuses going on your not aware of. To take away your son's trip from him I think is wrong your son has gone though enough already I think you should go to someone higher like the superintendent of you schools. You need to fight for your son and let the school officals know how upset you are. Hope you have good luck...Emily
I am so sorry for your son. The punishment does not fit the crime.
It seems schools are going over-the-top these days in reaction to kids being kids. Yesterday at the high school my DD17 witnessed a fight between two girls (mostly hair pulling) and the policeman on duty TASERED THEM! Why didn't he just break it up? There were no weapons, for goodness sake!
I hope you can appeal and your son can go on his trip.
I just got back from taking Leon to lunch after a meeting at school. They called me at 11:00 and asked me to come get him because he was refusing to do work and refusing to talk to anyone. By the time I got over to the school, he was in the counselors office and talking to them. He had explained that he was very depressed about the upcoming Washington trip because everyone had been talking about it. The counselor said that he was not the only one not going, in fact they had a record number of kids out this year. Well, that didn't make him any happier. He just started crying about how hard he had been working and how much he had wanted to go. The counselor stared at him and said, "Leon, this is the first time that you have indicated that you even cared about the trip. You told the Principal and VP that you didn't even care if you went."
Good grief, is this the first time that they have experienced false bravado in a kid?
Anyway, they didn't offer to talk to anyone about letting him go, they just gave me a pamphlet on depression in children and suggested that he find something at school that he liked to do. (Spring Expedition day is coming up which all the teachers and sporty kids like but most of the other kids hate as it is more like a contest than a party-Leon hates SE day.)
They mean well and they are nice but they are clueless. Really and truly clueless.
Leon cried all the way home but felt better after lunch and went back to finish out the day. He kept apologizing to me about getting in trouble. I wanted to strangle someone, not him.

It seems like Leon did find something that made him happy--the school trip and they took that away from him. Somehow, handing a kid a pamphlet about depression really doesn´t seem to be the answer to the problem. I really feel for Leon b.c you can see that he wants to feel better and he wants to do well but the school just seems to be putting roadblocks up in front of him.
Suzie, I'm so sorry. I know that you're grieving too and that this situation is the last thing you need. But, I think you need to try to do whatever it takes to try to get Leon on that trip. Threaten to take it to the school board, threaten to take it to the media, and last but not least threaten to take them to court. I believe that you'd have a potential equal protection clause case. And, if there's any issues with mainstreaming in your district, believe me the last thing that the district is going to want is attention through the media or a lawsuit.
I recently had a situation where a HORRIBLE rumor was started about my child, and I had to threaten all of the above to make sure that the school did what they should have. It came in very handy to talk about "my attorney" (my sister,) as in, "I've been consulting with my attorney and..." People tended to start changing their tune right quick when I started my sentences that way. Any family or friends of yours that are attorneys? Also, even though the situation wasn't resolved perfectly, it meant the world to Zack that I was 100% in his corner. Knowing that I was on his side really made it possible for him to keep his chin up at school, and it helped our relationship as well. Best of luck to you. It sounds like your son is being wrongly accused (it doesn't sound to me like he did ANYTHING wrong,) and I know how hard that can be as a parent.

Have you talked to the school about a 504 for your Leon? Depression is a disease the same as heart failure, cancer, ADHD.........he needs the accommadations that can be made for 504 students.
I would appeal the punishment. First of all they double dipped the punishment--6 points was bad enough but 12 thats crazy. I would definitely go above the principals head if he is not willing to listen and make accommadations.
