Southern California. Will it be attached to the state once we're done with it? *Updated 7/9* COMPLETE - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

This sounds like fun! Can't wait to hear more. As a SoCal born and raised, you're in my old stompin grounds.... I miss some of it, but none nearly enough to move back!
“Just what do those wacky girls (and the husband in a skirt) have planned for those 11 days?”
Well . . . being that I am now just TWO DAYS and a wake-up call away from heading out west, I suppose I could let you all in on the plans. Heck, everyone else has already told you . . . I am just slacking.
So, what’s doing, you ask?
Feb 22 - Thursday . . . Emilie gets out of school at 11:10am. She will come home on the bus. I have already talked to her bus driver and she knows not to expect her back until March 6th. As of right now, the plan is to tell her, after school, that we are going on a little trip and that I will need some help to finish packing her bag. I have yet to decide if I am going to let the proverbial cat out of the bag about where we're REALLY going that night or if I will wait until we get on the plane the next morning. It helps that we have a flight to San Diego via Chicago, so I have a couple of options . . . either tell her BEFORE we head to Chicago or when she figures out IN Chicago that we're boarding a plane for San Diego!
Feb 23 – Friday . . . Terri arrives in San Diego first, then Crystal and Doug, then Emilie and I. We are staying at the Hampton Inn San Diego – Downtown. It is located near the airport, the harbor cruise terminal and a trolley station. Convenience is good! The plan as it stands now is to, first thing, head to the nearby Navy base to buy tickets for DL, Harbor cruise, San Diego Zoo, and Universal Studios. (gotta love those military discounts!) . . . then we’ll take a harbor cruise, drop by the Gaslamp Quarter for a minute to pick up a couple of things, head back to the hotel then catch the trolley up to Old Town for dinner at my dad’s favorite restaurant, Old Town Mexican Café.
Feb 24 – Saturday . . . Up and at ‘em to head to the San Diego Zoo! Then possibly a drive around Balboa Park and finally, dinner at the Corvette Diner in Hillcrest with Sharon (PrincessSharon)!
Feb 25 – Sunday . . . Boogity-boogity-boogity . . . we’re goin’ racin’! Getting up early in the morning – drive 1.5 or so hours northbound to the California Speedway for the Auto Club 500 NASCAR race! Sammy Hagar is providing us with pre-race entertainment, Brian McKnight is on the National Anthem, Ricky Schroeder is waving the green flag and Kevin Costner is the Grand Marshal (“Gentlemen, start your engines!”) Emilie’s and my first race! After the traffic clears out . . . or at least WE clear out of it, it is on westward to Los Angeles! We’re staying at the Hilton Universal City – FOR FREE!!! A late-ish dinner at Bubba Gump’s at CityWalk and we’ll be good to go!
Feb 26 – Monday . . . Universal Studios!!! This will be the first time I have been back to US since Summer 1994! I am interested to see the changes that have gone on in the past 12.5 years!!! Dinner that night is at Buca de Beppo at CityWalk!
Feb 27 – Tuesday . . . We’re getting up in the a.m., checking out of the Hilton and headed to Hollywood and Highland for Grand Tour of LA!!!! This will be the first time I have been in the city proper of Los Angeles and have done TOURISTY things. After our tour, it’s on south to Anaheim where we’ll check in at the Disneyland Hotel . . . then hit Downtown Disney and dinner at Tortilla Jo’s at DTD with all the Passporter Girls!!
Feb 28 – Wednesday . . . Everyone else is taking the “Walk in Walt’s Footsteps Tour” in the morning, which leaves Emilie and I free to kind of wander, I guess. There is no doubt that we’ll start the day out at Disneyland Park, but we may migrate over early in the morning as well to DCA. Who knows. *shrugs* We’re having a “My Disneyland Birthday Party” at the Plaza Inn in DL park for Emilie (and Crystal) that afternoon.
March 1 – Thursday . . . The plan of attack is to check out DCA . . .I am really interested to check out the new Monster’s Inc. attraction since it was “in production” last time I was there! We have lunch planned at Ariel’s Grotto . . . then various group members will be heading off to the spa at the GCH, then the majority of the girls (and Doug) will be meeting up for dinner at Napa Rose (Janine and I are the only ones NOT dining there that night, I believe.)!
March 2 – Friday . . . There is no plan for breakfast, but my best bet is it will be something light and possibly pastry like! We’ve got an early PS at Blue Bayou for lunch! I am excited! I am already being quite picky over the menu, but I have wanted to eat there since I was a little girl. Later that evening, a group of the girls is heading up to Warner Brothers Studios in Burbank to see the taping of the show “Two and A Half Men”. Emilie and I are going to stay up late and ride everything we can multiple times while they go look at Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer being all cute and what-not.
March 3 – Saturday . . . BIG breakfast planned at Storyteller’s at the GCH! Wine Country Trattoria at DCA for dinner . . . and maybe for lunch we’ll try a clam chowder in a bread bowl at Pacific Wharf Café or something. That sounds so good right now, you can’t even believe it.
March 4 – Sunday . . . We’ve got plans to eat at Carnation Café for Breakfast . . . then Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen at DTD for dinner. We transfer that afternoon from the Disneyland Hotel to the Anaheim Hilton – FOR FREE!!!
March 5 – Monday . . . Catch Super Shuttle with Terri to LAX for our 8:25am flight to Norfolk via Baltimore . . . we get home at 8-something at night (or something like that), which will enable Emilie to still be able to get to bed at a decent time and me to be able to unwind before crashing out myself!
March 6 – Tuesday . . . 7am, the alarm goes off . . . 7:40am, it’s on the bus and back to school for Emilie and the continuation of the part-time job hunt for me! Then I wish I could be back in California.
So, that’s it folks . . . 11 days of sun (except for maybe the day we arrive in San Diego . . . it’s supposed to rain some that day. ) and FUN!!!!!!!
Just 2 days away!!!!
COMING UP NEXT: Final thoughts as we head out and “Did I forget anything?”
