Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

NO POOH SIZES ALLOWED and HOW LONG IS THE WAIT???

But…there was one little problem. Well, not so little, as it turns out. The ride does not accommodate people of “exceptional size” (i.e. pooh size) In fact, for anyone thinking about traveling to CP that is larger than a 40” waist (men) or size 18 (women), there are many coasters that you will not be able to experience.

I found this to be the most disappointing aspect of our trip that day. Again, my DH and I were mumbling…”It sure isn’t Disney!” If you want more information about CP’s “exceptional size” rules, here’s a link… http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/visit/tips.cfm#size

As I was a size 20, this was a real disheartening feeling. They have “sample seats” at the entrance to the rides that you can sit in and see if you can strap yourself in. I was inches from being able to do this, which just made me even angrier!

[/ QUOTE ]

I was TOTALLY humiliated by a staff member at Cedar Point last year when I tried to ride Millennium Force. She literally pulled me aside and MADE me try the seat before I got in line. She was not discreet or polite about it. By the end of the incident I was in tears...and never tried the seat or went on the ride! The sad thing is I rode Top Thrill Dragster without a problem and there was EXTRA room on the seatbelt! I will NEVER go back to Cedar Point!

Re: Cedar Point- Ride On! Trip report- UPDATED 7/31!

Magnum XL 2000 and Lunch!

As our family separated, Dnephew and I decided that we would check out the wait time for the Top Thrill Dragster. We kept walking, and as we rounded the corner we saw it… Top Thrill Dragster was looming high above our heads in the distance! My Dnephew Jason became giddy with delight that we were getting closer to his favorite ride of all times! TTD had finally opened and we could see the passenger cars going over the top of the 420-foot crest.

Jason and I decided to head over to the ride and see how long the wait was. I had heard while standing in line at the Skyhawk, when the ride had officially opened for the day that the wait was close to 4 hours!!! Yep. That’s not a typo…4 hours to wait for that ride. I didn’t want to get Jason’s hopes up, but I was NOT going to wait 4 hours for any ride!

As it turned out the wait was 2 ¼ hours. Still too long for me! I told Jason that he could go on the ride by himself if he wanted, but he did not want to wait in line for that long by himself. I told him that we’d check back later in the day and see if the wait was any shorter. We then started back when we noticed that we had passed the Magnum XL 2000 and it only had a ¼ hour wait to get on! Let’s go, I said. I was excited to ride this one again. It had been so long ago that I rode it.

This roller coaster was the newest ride when I last visited Cedar Point, and it was a sweet ride back then. The ride boasts a 200+ first hill lift and takes riders in excess of 70 mph. What I loved about the Magnum was the tunnels and the airtime! There are three tunnels that put in complete darkness and strobe lights going to disorient you. There’s also a part of the tracks that head out toward Lake Erie. When you are traveling 70+ mph on a roller coaster, it feels as though you will just keep flying right on out into the Lake. Also, I like the vantage point from the top of the first hill. You can see the Cedar Point lighthouse, and they say that on a clear day, you can see Canada!

The wait was actually about 5 minutes, and before we knew it, we were creeping up that first hill. It seems like it takes forever to get up the first lift. But once you’re up there, the rest of the ride goes fast…and I mean FAST! The ride was actually a bit uncomfortable. I don’t recall it being as bumpy as it was, but oh well…it was worth it. What a rush!

We exited the ride, and zoomed back to Camp Snoopy. We had to tell DH and Dsis that they, too, could experience the Magnum with little to no wait! As we walked back, the very dark and dreary clouds loomed over top of our heads. Hmmmm…. would we be rained out?

Although the wait for the Magnum was short, grumbling stomachs vetoed our idea to ride again. It was three o’clock and time to eat lunch. We scoped out the map and decided that we’d head back to Frontier town and eat at the Chuck Wagon:

This time, I was able to persuade my family to let me snap some pictures of their dishes:

We paid about $50 for the four adults (DS-4yrs just snacked off our plates). The food was mediocre and that is being nice. Actually, it was pretty horrible, and at least ½ of all of our meals went into the trash.

As we left Frontier town, I snapped an obligatory picture of Dnephew and DS Mason:

Then we were off again to explore the rest of what Cedar Point has to offer…

Re: Cedar Point- Ride On! Trip report- UPDATED 7/31!

The coolest kiddie ride at the Point!

After lunch, we did a bit of shopping in Frontier town. We didn’t buy anything. I found that most of the stuff that was on sale was junk. Nothing in the shops were really unique in any way. I did, however, find a really nice reward outside of one of the stores:

These things were GREAT on tired feet. I vaguely remember something down at Disney…maybe at the Animal Kingdom? I’ll definitely check them out when we go back. It only costs $.25 for a good minute of heavy-duty vibration. In my opinion, this was the best deal of the day…oh yeah…that and $.25 cotton candy!

We made our way back to Camp Snoopy. Really, it was a pretty nice area. The landscaping was well done and the theming was probably the best in the park. Here’s a picture of DS next to the entrance into Camp Snoopy:

That reminds me of how refreshing that water smelled right there…ohhh how I would have loved to just jump in it right then and there! Dnephew and Dsis took my advice and headed to the Magnum for a quick ride, while DH, DS and I explored Camp Snoopy. We wanted to check out the family-style roller coaster, the Woodstock Express.

My DS is obsessed with trains, and he loves roller coasters. So we knew this would be a big hit for him. But as it turns out, the ride was pretty cool. It was by far the best kid’s roller coaster at the Point…very similar to BTMRR without all of the great landscaping and theming to the ride. This is a ride not to be missed if you have adventurous toddlers wanting a thrill of their own.

Dnephew and Dsis were once again done before we had completed riding the Woodstock Express. We all decided to head over to the Paddleboat excursion ride. We all were feeling a bit run down after eating lunch and just wanted to relax a bit.

The paddleboat excursion was pretty good. Imagine the Jungle Cruise, complete with the tour guide’s corny jokes. I never really cared for the Jungle Cruise, so that’s about all I can say for this ride. Those of you that like JC may like this excursion much better than I did.

Here’s some pictures taken from the paddleboat ride:

As the boat ride ended, the rain came! It was pouring like mad for just a few minutes and then it cleared up. Dnephew was getting antsy to be thrilled again. As we began walking toward the midway, I noticed the Top Thrill Dragster was not running. Jason was upset, because he thought they would just close the ride for the day. I told him it could be a blessing in disguise. If the ride closed, all of the people in line wouldn’t be there anymore. Maybe we could walk over there and hope that it opens soon.

As we rounded the corner and could see the beginning of the wait line, we noticed the “Closed due to inclement weather” sign. But within minutes, they were letting people enter the line again! Woo-Hoo! The wait was 30 minutes! I ran over with Jason to get in line, but noticed the ride seat at the beginning of the wait line…uh oh! Yet again I was not allowed to ride due to weight restrictions. “It sure isn’t Disney” I mumbled under my breath.

Of course Jason was all over the short wait time, and instead of riding, I joined the spectators in the grand stands. Yes…there is a viewing area that you can watch. If you are too afraid to go on it, go up and sit in the stands for a few minutes. It is well worth it!

If there are any roller coaster fanatics out there reading this, you MUST, and I repeat, MUST ride this ride. Just don’t have a waistline over 40”! (hee-hee) I mean this thing is just enormously high in the air. But that isn’t the coolest part. It’s watching the riders sit there…most of them dead silent, with a look of absolute fear and disbelief that they are about to go from 0-120+ mph in just 4 seconds! Then they will go almost vertical up 420 feet of spiraling track, inch over the crest of the top, where the view is supposed to be spectacular. They will then zoom back down the hill, again almost vertical and the ride is over in less than 15 seconds!

Is an hour, two, three, or even four hour wait even worth it for a few seconds ride? ABSOLUTELY! According to riders, it is a thrill like no other, and all the rides in Cedar Point and the rest of the world are no match to the feeling you achieve by riding Top Thrill Dragster.

Like I said, I just watched from the stands as countless riders shivered in their shoes awaiting the green light. It was so cool to watch, although I felt sorry for a few people. I witnessed more than one teenager who thought they were ready for TTD crying like a baby while they waited for the green light.

After waiting like what seemed like forever, it was time! Dnephew Jason was loading onto the ride. He would be taking off after the two other cars in front of him. I went to the best vantage point that I could find with my camera. I was ready! Jason was smiling from ear to ear, but very nervously- I could tell. He sat down in his seat, and as he pulled the restraint over his head, the worst possible thing in his world started happening!

Up next: Will he EVER get to ride Top Thrill Dragster?!

Great report!! Just got caught up....and you are seriously taking me back to my childhood. I used to spend the summers with my brother, nephew and niece near Mansfield and we would go to Cedar Point EVERY summer!! This was my favorite place (pre-Disney of course).
Thanks for the report and the great pictures! Can't wait for more!
