Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Aloha Kana and Pila – Part 3 Updated 7/7

[b] Back to Land and HOW MUCH IS THAT PARKING FEE????!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Safely back on board the surface craft, we headed back to shore…

Back on land…

From here, we wandered around the shops some more.

Jan’s pictures…

One of the boats used to tow the subs out in the morning and back in at night…

I’m downloading a memory card…

Life is good (yes, almost a smile)

Okay… While on the surface boat we bought a DVD of a sub ride, better pics, as well as a CD of photos.

Some thoughts on the sub ride… We didn’t pay the full price ($84) and truthfully, if we had we would have been a little disappointed. I realize they have no control over the water conditions, but, while it was really neat to do, I wouldn’t go back at full price… Just our personal opinion, voiced by a few others that we talked to…

As we wandered through all the little shops, we found another cd of photos of Waikiki and the surrounding area we liked and bought it…

Our “hope’ was to get our parking ticket validated. When we got the reservations for this sub ride, the gal told us parking was expensive, but we would get a reduced rate and we could make it cheaper by getting our parking ticket validated by one of the shops. The only problem with that was the Hilton changed the rules and didn’t tell anyone, the only way to get the parking ticket validated was to eat at one of the “specified” places, and we had to stay there to eat…

So….

We said the heck with it, how much can 4 to 4.5 hours of parking cost….

We get to the truck and head out to the exit and hand the attendant the ticket. He puts it into the machine and says “Holy Crap” really loud.
$31.50

I says “WHAT????????????????”

He asks what we were there for and I told him the sub ride, so he applies a 50% discount and it still comes to $16, but I am much happier with that

Well…. We headed back to the house, stopping by the Navy Exchange complex for some quick shopping and lunch…

On the way back… )Jan’s pics_

After lunch we headed for the house. After a rest, and downloading all those pics we took this morning, we headed out for dinner with the family that evening…

Some pics on the way…Mine….

Jan’s…

JT

Kristen

Great food, and it started raining just as we got there…

After dinner, we headed back to the house and called it a day…

NEXT: Some swimming, snorkeling, and a dinner/sunset cruise

31.50!?! That's almost as expensive as Manhattan! Great pics from the sub, despite the conditions. I'm right there with ya, I hate confined spaces, too.

Re: Aloha Kana and Pila – Part 3 Updated 7/7

[b] Some swimming, snorkeling, and a dinner/sunset cruise

Today is Thursday, May 25th, 2006. And once again, the sunrise is beautiful on the Island of O’ahu

The plan for today is to stop by Recreation and get some tickets for a few things, then head to the beach for some swimming/snorkeling then off to a dinner/sunset cruise… Good Plans

We finally got going around 9, someone was dragging (Kristen). I believe it had something to do with getting up early and her being 9

Anyway, we stopped by recreation and bought our tickets for the Polynesian Cultural Center on Friday, Jan’s shark cage swim tickets for Friday, and tickets for Jan and I to do a “guided event.” This was to be a snorkeling swim over a “coral reef’ and a hike to a secluded waterfall. Remember this for later… While we were here, we rented some masks, snorkels, and swim fins…

Then, off to the beach

I’m driving, Jan’s navigating, and the little one is in the back seat… The plan is to head back towards the beaches by the Barber Point Coast Guard Air Station, the place we went to our second day here..

Now, let’s talk about Hawaiian Roads… They must have been designed by the same folks that did the Interstates in Pennsylvania. You can’t get there from here, directly, or by using a map…

The map showed one exit, but when we got there, it didn’t exist for our direction. So we “sight-see’d” (in other words I got lost) We ended up in an industrial area, and eventually found a beach BUT no one was there and it looked pretty run down… We also ended up by a “very basic” lighthouse but I didn’t get any pictures

We wandered around a bit more, Jan and I were enjoying it but there was this 9 year old in the back seat who was bored So, a stop at Burger King for food and we headed back to the base and went to that beach…

Honolulu Airport shares the runways with Hickam AFB, and one of the runways is pretty close to the beach area (when we leave I have a shot of this area from the airplane)

Kristen and Jan…

Kristen

The brave snorkelers…

Who don’t want to get wet (PS the Pacific Ocean has COLD water, I don’t care where you are)

Well, if you gotta, then you gotta

A little shriveled up coconut on the “not so white” sand…

Getting busy at the airport

Time to get rinsed off…

Getting really, REALLY busy…

Diamond Head Crater in the background...

We headed back to the house. Downloaded photos and rested….

NEXT: A dinner cruise…

Great update Bill, I'm not a really big beach person but I definately would enjoy sitting on the beach watching planes takes off all day (especially that close!). Love your pictures.
