Forums Closed

As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: What brings you back - emotionally!!!!!
It's the magical feeling I get like I am in the most special place in the whole world. There are no cares, no worries, everyone is happy, the characters are real (not people in costumes). It's the feeling I get when I'm there - a feeling of total peace & contentment. It's also the look in my daughter's eyes when she sees Mickey or when she's standing in line getting ready to go on Splash Mountain. Walt Disney World, for me, truly IS a place where Magic lives.

Re: What brings you back - emotionally!!!!!
No one laughs at me if I wear a funny hat.
No one points and snickers at me when I am skipping down the street hand and hand with my Passporter buddy.
If I run up to a "REAL" Princess with tears in my eyes...that is okay.
I can have a conversation with a big Mouse in a tux and he will actually "talk" back to me!
When I am at Disney World...I have no worries, no cares...I am 8 years old again and that is okay!

Re: What brings you back - emotionally!!!!!
It's knowing that I'm in a familiar place with something new to see everytime I go, it's knowing that I'm going to eat well and be relaxed, but not bored. It's the challenge of trying to fit it ALL in the little time we have there, it's the sights, the sounds, the ability to see the little kids faces light up and to the knowledge that I'm going to go home smiling for several weeks to come. It's also knowing that with the classic Disney service, I'm going to be well taken care of without complaint.
It's all of it, the sights, sounds, smells, sensations, people, food, experiences, the whole package.

Re: What brings you back - emotionally!!!!!
To me it's going home. It's the knowledge that it's always there and always will be. Its' the feeling of awe and total relaxation I get when I walk into the Wilderness Lodge, ride the boat over to MK and walk under the bridge for the first time every trip.
It's family time.

Re: What brings you back - emotionally!!!!!
First, it is the excitement and joy written all over Stefanie's face.
Second, it is all the times she reminds me throughout the year that we're going back to Disney.
Third, I get to be the kid, too and no one seems to think it strange that I'm excited to see Cinderella, Dopey, and Mary Poppins.
Finally, it's one time when my family is just having fun together.

Re: What brings you back - emotionally!!!!!
For me, it's the feeling I get from the moment I arrive at WDW. It's like arriving in Neverland and being young and enchanted and every other magical thing you can think of. For me, it almost feels like coming home, leastwise coming to the special place where I can let loose and recharge my batteries. And sharing it with loved ones just makes it that much more special.

Re: What brings you back - emotionally!!!!!
what brings me back is when you mention DW to a disney fan and you see their face light up.
several things that come to mind when someone mentions DW to me: 1) riding the monorail near GF (my dream hotel, i'll get there yet)
2) the first time i went to DW and i kept seeing couples in the 60's and 70's walking around DW with HUGE smiles on their faces
3) arriving to the world by bus and that butterflies in the stomach feeling i get when i realize "i'm finally here"
4) Just thinking that i was such a skeptic the first time i went and now i'm totally hooked. If someone said to me you can go anywhere in the geographic world for vacation where would you go, my answer would always be "Disney World", of course.

Re: What brings you back - emotionally!!!!!
I like that you can plan almost everything before you leave so that your vacation is more relaxing and worry free. You can make and itinerary for everyday and include just about everything. There is nothing more stressful to me then being hungry and your family is unable to decide what they want to eat. And when you do finally decide you find out the wait is 1 to 2 hours. Or you wake up and can't decide what you want to do that day. We never have that problem in Disney. There is always plenty to do. If something unforseen happens and you need to change plans the CMs will always do there best to help and accomodate you. The service and atmosphere is what keeps us coming back. We know a vacation in Disney will be stress free.

This happened to me last Saturday night. I was walking foot patrol, in the center of town, with my patner, and this was the first time we were on duty together, for foot patrol.
As we were walking around we were talking about everything, and I mentioned that we just went, and our going back, next year. As soon as I mentioned Disney, his face lit up, and looks at me, and says "I love Disney, its the best place in the world". For the rest of our shift we talked about Disney.

Re: What brings you back - emotionally!!!!!
I LOVE palm trees, so as soon as I land at the airport, I'm so THERE already!
I love seeing the smiles on my children's faces when we say we're going to WDW--right down to the baby--she sings It's a Small World!!!
I love the planning. When you plan, you get the Magic right away!

Re: What brings you back - emotionally!!!!!
The Magic brings us back.
Getting away from the real world, forgetting the outside world for awhile is just wonderful.
Not having to be anywhere, doing what we want when we want. The food! The Champagne! The Rides, The sights and sounds.
Laughing like kids, singing songs along with the rides and shows. seeing fireworks shows and looking to the sky with the eyes of a child like it's the first time you have seen them.
Not making beds or cooking meals. Not having to drive..
It's just total Magic!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can I go now please??????
and the #1 reason, EEYORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: What brings you back - emotionally!!!!!
I don't know if I can describe it! For me, it always starts out as that rush I get when we see the signs on the highway and realize we're sooooo close! Then you walk into your hotel and just think, "Wow! We're really here!" Don't care how many times I go...it's gotta be the rush! Ruth
p.s.- I believe this should be my 1000th post! Woo hoo!!!

Re: What brings you back - emotionally!!!!!
I think for me it's the feeling of truly no worries!
All you have to do is to get up, eat, have a good time at a park with family and/or friends (or alone!), eat, take pictures, swim, go to another park, eat some more and do it all over again for hopefully at least 6 days!
