Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Also drink alot of water instead of soda or lemonade, etc. It helps you stay hydrated, feel fuller and best of all, NO CALORIES!!

Re: A sticky question, follow up to the \"Do you lose weight for the Mouse?\" thread.

I am a lifetime member of WW (it took me 2 years to lose 25 pounds because I lost it and gained it back - but I am finally back on track). When I went to WDW last year, I only gained one pound! One of my tricks was, of course, lots of water (which is not hard to do when it is hot and you are walking alot - which is another plus), but I ate lots of salads and turkey burgers or chicken sandwich without the bun. I would only eat one or two fries and give the rest to my kids. I only ate desert at the park like ice cream. Somehow, that seemed to work.

Re: A sticky question, follow up to the \"Do you lose weight for the Mouse?\" thread.

Our last trip I was a WW. I definately drank my 6-8oz of water a day and many more. In addition to all the walking in the parks and everywhere else, and the many trips to the little room with the fan (from all the water). We also made it a point to swim every day. I had set a goal of not gaining more than 5 lbs. for the week because it was my vacation after all and I wasn't cutting out my creme brulee. I came home only .6 lbs heavier. I was SO happy. It kept me motivated. This trip I am wearing a pedometer to see How much we actually walk. Bets of luck to all with the weight loss!

Just wanted to say thanks for the reassurance and ideas. I can do this AND have fun! (Um, creme brulee? Now that's dangerous.) And congrats to everyone who's done so well, incl the WW compatriots out there! We can do this...

Re: A sticky question, follow up to the \"Do you lose weight for the Mouse?\" thread.

I just wanted to add a little tip about buffets. I always make sure that I get a plate full of "salad" first. For breakfast, I'll do a full fruit plate and for dinner fruit, salad, and veggies. By the time I fill up another plate for my entree, I'm pretty full and I tend to take less. Most of the time, I skip dessert entirely at the buffets following this strategy. The other thing I do is to get the pizza combo meal deals with Zack. Zack gets the pizza, I get the salad and we split a diet coke or have water. It's an inexpensive lunch, and good for the waistline. Another good lunch option is the chicken strips (grilled not fried) kids meal at Pizzafari and other places. I'm another who has pretty consistently lost a little bit of weight at WDW. Have a great time, and congratulations on your loss so far!

We had the same concerns too. DW has lost 37 pounds with Curves since October and I'm down 15 since the beginning of the year. We're doing the DDP for the first time this trip. We decided we're getting doggy bags at all of our TS meals and having the leftovers the following day for lunch back at the hotel. DS is 16 and eats like a horse. He will probably use most of our CS meals.

Re: A sticky question, follow up to the \"Do you lose weight for the Mouse?\" thread.

We have started splitting meals when we go out b/c of large portions. With us having been on WW since Dec. I have really become more aware of what it is I'm eating and how much of it I'm eating. I don't intend to deprive myself this summer (it is my bday and we're on the plan) but I plan on only eating the right amount, and not ordering things that I consider to be bad for me now. Honestly, things like that, greasy, fatty, etc., aren't as good to me anymore now anyway. to you!

Re: A sticky question, follow up to the \"Do you lose weight for the Mouse?\" thread.

I have lost almost 60lbs since our last trip to WDW in November (although I have 100 to go to get to my goal). I have a gastric lap-band which means, I can't really eat huge volumes of food at one time and certain foods get a little "iffy" going down (like bread). I plan on eating like a "normal" person on vacation. If I want butter and those things I don't normally indulge in, I will eat them. Vacation comes 1-2x a year and that's exactly what it is to me. Vacation - freedom from regular routines. Some people can not do this and stay with the vacation mode when they get home - but I don't have much trouble switching back. I never gain weight during vacation, but stay the same. Sure I'd love to keep losing those 1-2lbs a week, but I'd RATHER eat normally for 10 days out of a year.

We have a bunch of ADR's and I plan on enjoying each and every one of them! It's a good thing I'm not a huge bread person, but I sure can tear into a good steak! LOL

Re: A sticky question, follow up to the \"Do you lose weight for the Mouse?\" thread.

I lost 106.5 pounds before our trip. *We just got back on Wed* I decided that since it was a vacation, I would just eat as normal...I knew that I had gained a little, but was shocked when I got home and weighed myself and gained 10 pounds I thought that with all of our walking I would be ok, so it was a surprise. The good thing is that I started back on my diet and the first day we got back, I lost 2.5 pounds and today when I got on the scale I lost another 7
Good luck to you, Im sure you will do fine, I hope that you have a magical vacation!!

Re: A sticky question, follow up to the \"Do you lose weight for the Mouse?\" thread.

I'm hoping to be lifetime by the time we hit the world in September (down 30 with another 15 to go). I plan to remember my basics (lots of water, try to make smart choices, tons of walking), but I also don't want to deprive myself.

Overall, I'm hoping to keep the following in mind...DON'T GIVE UP WHAT YOU WANT FOR WHAT YOU WANT RIGHT NOW. I have an awesome leader and that is one of the mantras she lives by.

I hear those words in the back of my head when I teeter on the brink of temptation.
