Goin' Down the Bayou ~ The TR (November 1-10, 2012) - Page 19 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

And what a treat at Tusker House to have Donald walking around! That breakfast is a must do for us - and I would love for a change of Donald joining us inside!

What a great breakfast! Tusker House is on the top of my list for next trip, which I hope will be sometime this year. Great safari too. It pays to be there early.

Great safari pics! Tusker House is one I'm really looking forward too! Everyone seems to love the Jungle Juice. Can't wait to try it!

I had to go back and look at those bus stop photos, Laurie. I didn't even notice that Abby was holding Duffy in her sweatshirt, swaddling him up Breakfast and the safari definitely made getting up at 6 worth it, I couldn't believe how many animals we saw up and about. It was great!

Oh, that juice! They need to bottle it up and sell it, I would buy cases of it

I need to find a recipe for that juice, I don't think I can wait until next trip to get some

Love your morning in AK. Cool safari shots
Thanks!
It's good that the kids have a choice now at the Kidcot stops, I'm sure that there are some who don't even know who Duffy is. Agent P, I think, would be more recognizable, and it fits in with the new Agent P Adventure

It was so much better having Donald inside, I'd rather have him come to our table than to meet him quickly while we are being rushed through the picture line outside!

TH! I should have known that would be the best breakfast ever. We love Th for breakfast...the characters, the atmosphere, the food (SO many choices)...I have to say, it's our favorite meal period...out of all meals at WDW...and a must do. It's also the only food we like at AK besides corn dogs (well not DH).
So glad that Kaeli got to have donuts. I understand and agree with you about vacations. It's vacation if she wants a couple donuts, have at it kid! My DD gets more sweets, soda, and what not on our trips. Luckily, she likes good food too so we are able to get some of that in her as well, but mostly it's up to her...it's vacation! Last trip in 2011 it was SO hot she had some sort of popsicle/ice cream everyday....sometimes a couple times...ssshhhh. I have to say the memories of just sitting down, taking a break, enjoying treats/refreshments (I am not a sweets eater) were some of the best.
I finally got one a morning safari this trip with Dana, and the animals are so much more active. It's great.
Now, I have to say...I noticed the very first pic of Chris alone with a character...and I have to say, I think that it's a guy thing. The only pics I have of DH with a character alone is Tigger and Goofy. I think they are "manly" characters. Anyhoo, it didn't surprise me when he was with Goofy!
Can't wait to hear about who might have made what cut!
Great morning at AK! Love Tusker House! Love the juice, make it at home all the time now. Yum! Great Safari pictures, lots of animals out that morning. More please!
Sounds like a great start to the day, minus the misting. It is so wonderful that TH had doughnuts that Kaeli could eat. We also let the kids have fun on vacation and eat much more unhealthy than they would ever be permitted at home.

We LOVED TH, it's definitely going on our must do list for all future trips! I don't think that Kaeli would let me forget about it though, she still talks about those donuts
I totally agree with you about Goofy, he's definitely a "manly" character looking back at our old pics, he's the only character that Chris has ever posed with alone! Goofy has always been his favorite though, when he was a kid he used to carry an imaginary Goofy in his pocket. (Just don't tell hime I told you that, shhh! )

It's so much fun just splurging and eating things that we wouldn't normally eat at home, that's what vacations all about! I remember one summer vacation at the beach, it was just awfully hot, so I decided we would get ice cream for dinner. I'll never forget the looks on the girls' faces
After our ride on the safari, we headed towards EE, stopping for some photo ops along the way.
We finally made it over to EE, which had just a 10 minute wait. We did a little browsing in the shop
And then we headed over towards Dinoland. Last year, Abby was just shy of the height requirement for Primeval Whirl, so she was eager to find out if she had grown enough to ride this year. I’m happy to report that she did, in fact, make the cut! Abby was thrilled, and gave the ride a thumbs up when we were done.
There was hardly a line, so we looped back around for another ride, and another after that, for 3 rides in total.
After our third ride, the girls got distracted by the face painting cart, so we headed over in that direction. Kaeli chose the Jungle Kitty, and Abby the Princess Kitty.
After the face painting, we played a few games
And walked on to Triceretop Spin with no wait at all.
We decided to check out the Boneyard next, and as we were passing by TS, we see a dad waiting by the railing watching his family. Well, Goofy was going back in for a break and noticed the same guy. He snuck up and scared the pants off of him! Goofy then stood with his arm around the man, just watching his family on the ride. You should have seen the kids’ faces when they realized their Dad was standing with Goofy, it was priceless! What a fun moment for that family.
After the girls burned off some energy in the Boneyard, we decided to head back over for another spin on EE. Along the way I suggested stopping for Nemo the Musical, but as usual, I was outvoted. One of these years I’m going to ditch the rest of my family so I can finally see this show. Anyway, as we were crossing the bridge into Asia, a woman was asking if anyone wanted some FP for EE. Chris hesitated for a minute, but when no one else answered he yelled, “we do!” and she handed them over. Score!
After our long climb to the top of Mount Everest, the girls were feeling a little hungry. We stopped for a couple of ice cream cones
But I had a different treat in mind for myself
While enjoying our treats, we made our way towards the front of the park and then out to the bus stop to catch a ride back to POR.
OMG, these pics are amazing!!! Every single one! The girls look so grown up with the face painting! What a great afternoon, and again, you got the ride idea with your "treat" option
