As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears

Moving on with the current of the years.

Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). Oh wow, you found way more movie characters than we did - I never knew there were characters from Alice in Wonderland in there for example. Mind you, we only did it once over the Christmas period in 2012 and we didn't make it on there this trip, it was just too busy whenever we went near it.
Luke found them all and I just looked where he pointed. He was having a blast finding them. I will say I did see the Lion King crew before him, but that is it. Such a neat idea!

The topiaries remind me of our first trip to WDW in1976. As we approached MK on the monorail from the parking lot we saw some fun topiaries of Mickey and his friends!
I love the topiaries at Epcot's F&GF, but I would also enjoy them any time and anywhere at WDW and now DL. So incredible that they can do these incredible works with plants.

Great photos! I really liked iasw in Disneyland and it was so fun to try and spot the movie characters. This, for sure, was one of the attractions we found to be much better in DL!
I loved it, and have to agree that it is better. I just loved entering from outside, and then there was the idea that this is the way it looked in 1964.

Luke had mentioned it to me back when the characters were first added, but at that time no DLR trip was in the works, so I forgot. But as we walked toward FL, he reminded me to keep my eyes open for them.

I love IASW at DL!!! It's so neat how they added the characters from Disney movies It looks like you had some beautiful weather and the wait times were manageable at 20 minutes!
This was our best weather day and best crowd level day of the whole trip, though the next day was fairly similar.

I love the DL version of IASW. My dad got to ride this ride at the 1964 World's Fair, so getting to ride it made it extra special for me. I love how they have the characters throughout the ride. I want to make it back for Christmastime at some point to see the building all lit up with lights!
Me, too! How neat that your Dad got to ride it when it was at the 1964 World's Fair. I'd love to visit at Christmas time, too.

October 6, 2017-Enjoying an amazing dinner at Victoria & Albert's with PP's Dot and Drew

I can't really think of any attractions that we didn't like and quite a few we liked better than the WDW version.
Wednesday, October 7 – More Classics of Fantasyland
I’m afraid our adventures through Fantasyland will seem like an epic as due to many photos it will be a while before we exit this land and move on. With that said, our next adventure in Fantasyland took us to a classic, Storybook Land Canal Boats. At some point in our planning, Disney Parks Blog had posted a video of this ride, getting me excited for own experience. Once again we entered through a standby line that had a fairly short wait time.
While in line, Luke tapped my shoulder to point out a character just walking through the park. It was Frollo, the villain from The Hunchback of Notre Dame, who has always been one of the scariest villains to me. I miss the wandering characters at WDW.
Luke also pointed out a disguised cell tower. , Disney!
We were both excited to see Casey Jr.’s Train riding the rails right by Storybook Land.
In the next series of photos, you will see my attempts to get the Storybook Land display fully in a single photo.
Soon enough we joined a small crowd of folks in a tiny boat for our canal boat voyage. We were sandwiched in with very little room to maneuver when I wanted to use the camera. The seats face inward (think Jungle Cruise), so parts of the attraction are behind half the boat at all times. I understand putting as many of us as possible on to keep the line moving, but it didn’t leave any personal space whatsoever.
I love how the ride begins by entering the mouth of the whale Monstro.
The first storybook land we glimpsed was Frozen’s Arendelle, which has been recently added but fits in like it has always been here.
Moving from the land of snow and ice, we came to the warmer climes of Agrabah in Aladdin.
I was almost not quick enough to capture a photo of Snow White’s cottage, but I just made it.
Next up was Cinderella’s castle, at least, I think it was since I found this pumpkin carriage descending the side of the mountain.
I remember our guide relating some information about these plant beds, but I don’t remember a bit of it now. And as were passing the beds, the view was temporarily blocked as Casey Jr.’s little train made its way along the track. I loved the overlap of several Fantasyland rides. You may remember the train going by at it’s a small world, too.
I also can’t remember the setting for this neat little hut/cottage. Honestly, I felt I was twisting and turning in an attempt to follow along, and with my back to half the ride, I found it a little hard to keep up.
We came back around now to the front side of Arendelle. This really is such a beautiful addition.
The last site I captured was Prince Eric’s castle.
Overall, this is a nostalgic little ride. I enjoyed it, wouldn’t have missed it, but on a return trip I wouldn’t be troubled if we missed it. From our canal boats we moved to another Fantasyland classic, Alice in Wonderland. Just a note here, Disneyland’s Fantasyland truly has a much older feel than its Disneyworld counterpart. At times, I felt in this land that I was transported back to 1955. This ride is a classic dark ride favored by Walt Disney, and takes guests through the basic story in the usual Disney fashion.
My favorite part of this ride was the outdoor section where the track wanders along in a curvy, bouncy way, and I could catch glimpses of the rest of Fantasyland.

What a shame they sandwiched you in like that - we were lucky and weren't too bad when we rode it a few weeks ago. I love Alice in Wonderland, it's one of my favourites at Disneyland!
When we were there last, I wondered what this ride was. Now I know, thanks! I love the little Casey train wandering through the park too. It is so cute. I agree with you about some of the areas/rides making you feel like you are back in 1955.
GREAT photos of IASW I just love how they incorporated the Disney Characters into their corresponding countries. It works so well because they took the time to make them look as much as the original dolls as possible.
So glad you got to ride so much, and with little wait time too! I haven't been on the canal boats since 1998, and I loved it so much then. I can't wait to ride again, even though I'm a little scared that I won't like what I see. I'm a bit of a "never change it" person... But I love all the little miniatures so much, especially with the use of plants. So sweet!
I agree that Storybook Land Canal Boats is a cute nostalgic ride, and I'm glad I rode it, but I won't feel any great need to do so on future trips. I didn't like sitting with my back to half the displays. I wish the boats were more like IaSW. Alice in Wonderland is such a cute ride! I loved how it was on two levels.
I'm loving your pictures. I can't wait to start planning with my MIL. They want to take us as a family vacation and I think we can convenience her the DL would be just as fun as WDW. Can't wait to see more.
