Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I forgot to put this picture of an ostrich in my last update:

I have a video of the lions moving around, but I have to figure out how to post it later.

After our safari, we crossed the park once again and went to ride Dinosaur. We were really getting our exercise in today!

The line was really short, and we were in our vehicle within minutes.

Then we walked back the other way again and arrived at Yak & Yeti for dinner. The restaurant was mostly empty, so it was a bit strange sitting there. It filled up a bit while we were there, but it never got more than half filled.

As much as I would love to try a Yak Attack, I was too tired to have any alcohol. I stuck with one of their fruity lemonades, and Sophia had a non-alcoholic pina colada type drink.

Evan was in a silly mood that night:

We started with the wok fried green beans:

I had planned to order the Duck with Anandapur glaze since before the trip, but for some reason I wasn't in the mood for it that night. I couldn't decide between the tamarind chicken and the bourbon chicken, so I had our server choose, and she chose tamarind chicken:

Sophia had the combination lo mein:

Evan had his chicken tenders:

I'm not sure if I knew this before, but this restaurant is part of the Landry's restaurant chain. I'm not sure if that psychologically turned me off the food a bit, but it did explain why it wasn't quite up to par with the other sit-down restaurants at WDW. I wasn't overly impressed with it. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. We were also tired from walking around so much that day (and from walking around so much the last few days), so I'm sure that played into our mood that night. Also, our tummies were still messed up with the time difference, especially since we were still sleeping and waking to California time for the most part. It probably didn't even feel like time to eat dinner yet! We ended up taking two boxes of leftovers back to the room that night. Ultimately, we ate all the leftovers between later that night and the next night, so it couldn't have been that bad!

Sorry to hear that Yak and Yeti wasn't real great for all of you! But nice that you had a good time!

You must try a Yak Attack as they are so good!

I've never liked the food at Yak and Yeti either, but always thought it was because there really isn't much for vegetarians. When I go there now, all I get is the green beans, which are nice to munch on, but not exactly a meal. I've tried the stir-fries and to me they're just boring. It's the only choice for an in-park sit-down meal, though, so I do sometimes end up there.

I love that photo of Evan. He has the sweetest smile.

Yak and Yeti was good when we were there, but I kind of went in knowing what to expect and it met those expectations. It didn't surpass them, but met them. They were very good handling my son's allergy issues. I love fried green beans!

Someday I will try a Yak Attack, but after I've had a good night's sleep! I don't do well drinking when I'm tired!

I really liked Sophia's lo mein dish. The sauce/glaze on my chicken was just too thick and over powering. I should've gone with my first choice but just wasn't feeling the duck that night. I'm not in a rush to go back but someday I will give it another chance.

It wasn't bad. I think with us being tired, and the restaurant dimly lit and mostly empty, it just wasn't a good atmosphere for a meal. Like I said, we ate all our leftovers, so it couldn't have been that bad!

We really enjoy Yak & Yeti but then again I have never tried an entrée.....LOL, we usually end up sharing a few appetizers and we are filled. With Angel's allergies the choices seem to work better that way. We really loved the green beans in August.

It was really neat walking around AK near closing time.

This was a meet and greet, but I forget for which characters.

One of the Flame Tree BBQ seating pavilions, near where we sat earlier in the day.

We never did any shopping at AK during this trip.

It was nice and quiet walking out.

We stopped for some PhotoPass pictures of the Tree of Life, and then we headed out. I wanted a picture of the AK tree, and guess what we saw! Yep, another section with lights out!

I maneuvered around to get a better shot, but you can still see some of the dark section.

We were the only ones at the OKW stop for a while.

At OKW, we got off at the first stop, Peninsular Road, and walked over to Hospitality House to pick up our package from DHS the day before. We also took the opportunity to get some more milk for the room. I think this was the night I also bought an OKW glass to remember our stay.

As others have mentioned in their TRs, resort specific items seem to be rare these days. I saw some DVC clothing items, but not a lot of things that say OKW on them. Oh well, I have my glass, and I've already used it since we've been home. I still use my Beach Club mug from our 2009 stay, but some of the lettering has already faded.

Back in the room, we watched some tv (probably Stacy, lol!), and I think at some point I ate some of the lo mein leftovers. I had originally planned for a day off after our 3rd park day so we could relax and maybe have some pool time, but the kids would have none of that. They wanted to go back to the parks! I had purchased 6 day parkhoppers for the kids and we had already been to the parks 4 days in a row, so I would need to add an extra day before we used up our 6th day. So much for resting, huh? We had plans to have lunch at Hollywood Brown Derby the next day which was a must do for Sophia and me!

Once again, we were up until at least midnight. Before going to sleep, I told Sophia that if she wanted to have a sit-down breakfast, she'd better wake up early. She said she would. We'll see....

Next: Are you kidding me?!

The menu actually looks really good to me, but we just weren't in the mood for it that night. Once again, the whole planning your ADRs in advance really becomes a pain sometimes. And with it being so busy for the rest of our stay, we didn't want to risk not being able to try the restaurant later as a walk-up.

I really wish they'd do 75% of their tables as ADRs and allow 25% as walk-ups. At least that way there'd be a chance to do a spur of the moment meal rather than plan months in advance. I wonder if they've tried it and that didn't work.

Can you believe I've never been at AK after dark?? I always get there at opening, but since I'm mainly there for the animals there's no reason to stay. What is it with the non-working lights on the trees?? That's crazy. It's not like it's a little detail hidden away somewhere.

I'm not surprised you haven't been there after dark! When we were there in 2009, the park closed at 5pm every day, and even then we only went for the first part of the day.

I was really surprised about the non-working lights...on two trees in two different parks...and on different days! Again, I just have to say that Disney has really set high expectations, so any time I see lights out...or peeling paint...or anything out of place, it just seems so strange!

Nice shots of Animal Kingdom at night. Sorry Yak and Yeti wasn't the greatest, but as you said, if you ate all the leftovers, it couldn't have been that bad?

Wow you have been busy!

I personally always get lost in DHS as well, and I lived there for 5 months and go at least twice a year now. Still can not figure it out!

LOVE the lions on the safari! Such a shame about the camera batteries but at least the cell phone pics aren't too bad

There's probably more I wanted to say while reading.... but I've forgotten! Sounds like you had a great day at AK overall though! I'm excited to spend my first evening there in quite a few years on my upcoming trip!

I love seeing the pics of AK after dark. I can only go in the summer and it closes a few hours before dark then. I bet you had to be exhausted!

Great night at DHS! And a great day at AK! Love the pics from the safari, especially the lions! Sorry Y&Y wasn't the best! I think of it as overpriced Chinese food, and thankfully you can get a Yak Attack at the takeout place right around the corner! More please!

Love the look of the park at night. We are usually out of there pretty early, getting there at opening, this year we were there to about 7 and loved how empty it got in the evening....very peaceful.
