Take Me Out to the Mouse House **Updated 4/24** COMPLETE - Page 18 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Fun day, Sharon! Beginning with the Yankees and ending at MK... actually, sounds like a PERFECT day to me!!! Your comment about Jeter's "back" side totally cracked me up. I'm with you...that man doesn't have a bad side! Hopefully he warmed things up in the stadium, to counter that yummy looking ice-cream and to complement baseball Mickey (yes, I do believe he may be hotter than any Yankee!).
Sorry about your dinner. I've never eaten there, and I guess I won't be eager to try it any time soon.
Thanks for all the great comments, everyone! Y'all are the best!

I love the pictures from your room at SSR! I am staying there again in May. I wouldn't mind that view!
Sorry about Pecos Bill's. I have only eaten there once and it was OK. In my opinion, the best burgers on property is at Beaches and Cream!
Your pics of Spectromagic are wonderful! I never get good pictures of that parade!
Great update Sharon!
Thanks, Ann! I've had views of DTD and the Treehouses and loved them both! I also think the B&C burgers are the best on property.

Eric is a big braves fan and he isnt superstitous at all like you : i was cracking up at your "not superstitous" comment. Cause eric has to wear the same hat everytime and he has to have certain friends over and if they loose when that friend is over they are never invited back during a game *LOL*
Too funny about it being earth day and running spectro twice *L*
I also think that phillarmagic needs some interaction. Like some games or something i dunno. I would agree though
I've never eaten at pecos bill's and now i know not to get the hamburger *L*
too bad though really....and you know how i feel about sweet tea since i live in the south!
Completely odd about the phone..i'm not sure i wouldve figured it out after multiple tries...i probably would've blamed it on kids prank calling *L*
A rain delay??? ugh....i know about those...i still can't wait to hear about your adventure!
You get the ice cream at the WWOS Cafe. I don't know if they had it at the All Star Cafe when it was there. And... well, all I'll say about Eric not having a certain friend over after a loss is that I don't think he's being completely unreasonable. Some people are bad luck! And I actually thought at first that it was a kid prank calling, but I figured they wouldn't keep calling back.

I highly recommend it! It's a lot of fun to see a game there, and the weather's usually perfect! The day I went it was in the 80s and beautiful (except kind of windy).

Well, it wasn't that terrible. Just cold. And I don't mean lukewarm or anything.

Love Mickey in a uniform. But, I am a sucker for a uniform. And I am TOTALLY superstitious. I had all kinds of quirks when I played and now if DH and I are watching a game and our team isn't doing well and then I move on the couch and they do well. I won't move until parts of me are falling asleep just in case I made it happen. (yeah...i've got issues )
I am a complete sucker for a man in uniform (including Mickey). My favorite Mickeys are always in uniform (band leader Mickey, Captain Mickey). And as for your game-watching "traditions" , you're not the first person I've heard about doing that.

I knew you'd love baseball Mickey! And I suspect the reason people love the burgers at Pecos Bill's so much is because they can load them up with fixins. Even a bad burger tastes pretty good if you load it up with onions and mushrooms (assuming you like that - which I don't).

I am sure I'll give PB another chance. The burger wasn't bad (I did have a bad burger at ABC Commissary and haven't been back since ).

But Pecos Bills sounded like a bad time. What a shame -- I've been so lucky there in the past.
And I got a good giggle about you and the phantom phone at SSR. (Too funny that you didn't report it.)
More, more, more please!
Eileen
I wish I had some of that ice cream right now (and it's 8:45 AM). Even DM will think ice cream for breakfast is extreme. I do hear a lot of good reviews for PB, which is why I'm willing to give it another try. And I probably would've reported the phone if I could use the phone without speakerphone (that's one of my pet peeves - I HATE when people call me using their speakerphones ).

Agreed about Mickey in his uniform...too cute!
That's good info to know, Cindy. I will remember that for my cruise next year!

Glad you were able to take in a bit of MK in the evening; sorry to hear about your sub par meal at Pecos Bills. On our last trip to WDW, we actually spent a whole week and none of us had a burger!
Fabulous pics of Spectro...glad you could boogie out of the MK ahead of the crowds.
danielle
I remember hearing (I don't remember where I heard it, but it was an official source) that a Disney character appears at every game. And I don't often get burgers at MK, unless I hear good things about them.

It's funny you say that, I had the taco salad (from El Pirata & El Perico) and didn't love it as much as I was expecting to.

Mickey's so happy to see me back, he can barely contain himself!
There were severe thunderstorms overnight. How do I know this? Because they were loud enough to wake me! I’m a sound sleeper, so that’s saying something! I woke up around 6, but just stayed in bed and fell asleep again until 7. It hadn’t really been that late when I got to bed, so I’m not sure why I did so much sleeping in on this trip.
After showering and getting ready, I headed to Artist’s Palette and got breakfast and my refillable mug that comes with the QSDP (the mug features the new WWYC design). I had a Mickey waffle and juice, plus water to go.
I knew it was expected to be rainy for at least the morning, so I was prepared with my waterproof shoes (with holes in the sides for water to drain out). I also remembered to bring my poncho.
I drove to the Studios, hoping to be able to get a picture of the TOT with the gloomy dark sky. Unfortunately, it started to rain on the way, and it rained off and on all morning, so I don’t have any pictures for this update at all.
I’d brought my poncho with me, but I’d forgotten my baseball cap, which I need since the poncho hood doesn’t stay on and my hair gets wet unless I walk around holding the hood. Like I really needed to mention that. Anyway, I was in time for the opening ceremony, and the rain stopped enough for them to get it in.
Being solo, I was able to get pretty close to the front of the pack, and at rope drop I walked with the crowd to Toy Story Insania. I, however, was smart and did not stop to get a FP. The standby was posted at 40 minutes, but I knew there was no way it could be that long and I got in line. The CMs were saying that the entire party must be together before entering the line, so people were bunched up around the entrance, waiting for the FP runner in their group. I spent the time in the queue talking to the woman behind me, giving her advice about what her 3 boys would like.
I checked the time when I boarded the ride – 9:13 and remember, I had to walk across the park just to get to it. So there you have it. Don’t get a FP first. Ride first, then get a FP for later. Your FP will be a little later, but your wait in the standby queue will be a lot shorter.
I didn’t take my own advice, though. I can do that because I’m so much smarter than that know-it-all, Me. I figured once on TSM would be enough for me today and I was ready for some TOT.
I grabbed a TOT FP and got in the standby queue. There was a 13-minute wait posted, but it was actually less than 10. When I came off, I noticed I had a message from Suzi (Hidden Mickey) so I left her a message that I was riding my Tower and we’d figure out where to meet up when I heard from her.
Since I needed a hat, I ended up buying a TOT one in the gift shop. Then I got right back in the standby line, which by now was truly about 13 minutes. This time I was seated next to a man and his son. The guy screamed like a little girl the entire ride, which I found stinkin’ hilarious! I’m not sure if he was joking for his kid’s benefit or not, but it sure made my day!
After that ride, I sent a text to Jyl to see if we could meet up some time that day. She replied that she was working later, but we could meet up in the parks before she had to work. Then I wandered around walking and people watching, since the rain had let up for the moment. It rained on and off all morning, sometimes very hard and sometimes very light.
I was happy that I had my waterproof shoes, but when they were wet, my feet slid around in them a lot. I grabbed a stack of napkins and I would dry my shoes off when it would stop raining.
I heard from Suzi again and we planned to meet at the exit of TOT, but we missed each other. One of the Streetmosphere players was in the photo area, and I enjoyed his performance. He had a carrot on his hat, and a little girl told him about it, but he kept pretending not to see it.
I decided to stay nearby, so I headed over for a spin on RNRC. I completely walked right into the preshow as a single rider. I wanted to go again, but then I heard from Suzi, so I walked over to TOT.
She was currently in the queue and would probably be about 20 minutes, so I decided to use my FP. I looked for her and her DD in the queue, but I didn’t see them. I figured it would’ve been funny if we ended up riding together.
I didn’t see them, unfortunately. They were about 5 minutes behind me, but we did finally get to meet! I thought Suzi and her DD were both really nice and she invited me to hang with her and her family. I had plans to meet up with Jyl, though, so we said if we both came back for the second Fantasmic! that night, we’d get together.
After that, I wandered around for a while in the rain. I heard from Jyl that she was on her way to the park, so I texted her that I was heading to the Backlot Express for lunch so she’d meet me there.
I was trying to decide what I wanted for lunch when Jyl came in. I decided on the chicken nuggets. I didn’t like either of the desserts offered (yogurt parfait or cheesecake – yes, I don’t like cheesecake). I asked Jyl if she wanted my dessert and she decided to have the cheesecake.
I always crunch on my ice (another reason I Sonic so much – they have the best ice for munching), and I noticed the BE has very weird ice. It looks like turds or clear cheese puffs. I’d never seen that kind of ice anywhere before. The turd ice isn’t really good for munching either.
We gabbed and gabbed while we ate. Well mostly, I pumped Jyl for behind-the-scenes secret CM info about SM. It was great to get to spend some time with her! And get to hear her wonderful stories. Jyl, I hope you know by now where you’re going once SM goes down for refurb.
After lunch, it looked like it was clearing up for good. We stumbled upon a cute show featuring the Green Army Men.
When that ended, I was ready to head to Epcot. We stopped for a few minutes while the last of the rain showers passed through, and then I headed to the parking lot. Jyl tagged along since she could easily go from there to the MK for work later.

Great update. on the tip for Toy Story Insania. Love that name. i'm with you on needing a hat with my poncho. I need one because otherwise I keep my head down so that the rain won't get in and roll down my back.. More please.

Sharon, thank you again for the wonderful update, despite the rain and the ice turds. It's nice that you got in some PPer Meets on your trip too! Can't wait to hear your next update even with your title for it.
I just read your last post to Tyler and he wanted me to tell you that "I am excited to go on RnRC because I'm tall enough now!! We saw the green army men too! And we thought they were cool."
As far as I am concerned, I think my biggest problem with this last post is finding out that you don't like cheesecake!!! You live in NY for goodness sake! And I LOVE me some cheesecake. But, the rest of your day sounded great. I didn't realize that DHS had an opening ceremony. Does Epcot?? I know MK and AK do and I think that is one of the things we are going to try to do this next trip with the boys is to see the opening ceremonies at least once.
