We're going to WDW! Adventures of a Mom & Toddler Trip, PTR - Page 17 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

It would be nice to add one more day but we are not sure we can swing it or not
See Fed EX did the same thing to us. We have wine delievered and they said they knocked and no one was home and that was such a lie because I was sitting right there next to the front door and NO ONE knocked! arghhhh...frustrating!

That does sound frusterating. I don't blame you for being frusterated
with them. I pretty much told UPS Today I am done with their lies, done with wasting gas and having to inconveniencing my husband for our car(when he needs it for work and class) to have to drive to pick things up from them, and I am done doing business with them. It may sound crazy for a backpack, they even did this for pictures sent from Shutterfly(why those need a signature is beyond me), but since thy always do this to us, I'm done. The only thing I did tell LL Bean is they shod ask their customers what shipping carrier they prefer, not automatically select for them(like I was supposed to know they use UPS an I had to ask for FedEx). It's all good though, it will be here in time to use
for Hershey Park & Disney.

Get this popular e-book free of extra charges when you join the PassPorter's Club for as little as $4.95. Cam that's amazing that both Fedex and UPS do their job out by you. I wish that was the case with UPS in our area. I've never experienced this with UPS before I moved to Virginia(I think their location needs something done with their employees and better Customer Service too). It's just unacceptable. I can look past them doing it a handful of times, but not each and every time.
Well now I got waaay behind on this!!! I finally got all caught up. Everything looks super so far. I love Skyler in his Kermit costume. What a doll. Your reservations look great!!! I love the backpacks. And I'm glad MOM is going with you. It should be fun!!!
I wish they did have the My Little Pony Station at Disney when my sister & I were younger as we were very much into My Little Ponies(but I won't be buying one this trip).
Talk about bringing back memories!!! I was a HUGE My Little Pony fan. I hated Barbie, but had about every pony you could buy, plus the barn and the estate . I wonder what Hope will be into when she grows up???
Thank you so much Dawn! It will
be so nice to have her with!
Melissa, my sister & I had tons of My Little Ponies, Barbies, Care Bears, & a few Cabbage Patch Dolls. When I heard about the My Little Pony Station in Once Upon a Toy, it brought me down Memory Lane too. Our dolls gave me way too much practice learning how to French Braid Hair and do other hair styles. my mom will relive my sister and all of ourMy Little Ponies when she sees that station(at least it was something she didn't mind us playing with). Isn't it funny that you wonder what your kids will be into? Skyler is just getti into tools(perfectfor Erick & his mom working Part Time at Home Depot) and Cars & Trucks. I was actually surprised he got into his Mr. Potato Head since those have been around for quite a while.
I'm so sorry for the delayed update, but changes have been made yet again to our Disney portion of Skyler's & my trip. My mom doesn't think her back can handle 3 days of parks, and really I don't think she wants to pay for 1 extra day ( I have offered to pay for her). We still are staying 2 full nights and are still doing DHS our first day with Play 'n Dine at H& V, but have cancelled our ressie for 50's PTC. We still are doing MK our second day and still having lunch at CP, but not dinner at Tony's. My mom has really made a huge fuss that all she wants while we are at Disney are Salads (I really have no problem with that) so I have downgraded our dining and ticket days. We are back on the MYW+Dining Plan, and only doing the parks for 2 days, not 3. Our check out day is now going to be a leisure waking up (although I know my mom will be up earlier than Skyler & I) especially after a night at MNSSHP. I am planning to do the Express Check Out, so we can just gather our bags, possibly take a dip in the pool before we head over to DTD for some shopping, and then head to the Outlets. Mom wants to buy a new pair of shoes there. I think for Dinner both nights, we are going to pretty much choose wherever we feel like eating CS wise in the Parks or at the resort, and everyone can get what they want (well with my having to choose for Skyler). I think that way everyone will be happy and we won't be tied down to any dinner ressies.
I did make a compromise with my mom, and she has agreed to let us take a visit to the Loggerhead Marine Life Center (where the turtles are). It is also located right across the street from another favorite beach of mine where we may actually go instead of Singer Island Beach. The turtles don't take that much time to see, unless you really plan to take a while there to learn more in-depth about them, but I know Skyler's short attention span may only really need less than 30 minutes tops of seeing the turtles. My mom insted of us going to AK, has suggested a new Wildlife Preserve that is a 30 minute drive from where she lives and it has a lot of animals that may never return to the wild there, because they have been injured badly. She did say they have Alligators & Florida Panthers there, amongst other animals, so we are going to give that a try, not to mention it is Free. I am a little upset she canceled our day at AK, as I really wanted to see the Gorillas. This may sound silly, but one of the Gorillas was actually born at the National Zoo in DC. I know I have actually only been to AK once, and really didn't get to have a wonderful glimpse of all the detailed work of all the animals carved into the Tree of Life, so that was also something I was looking foward to. Erick actually experienced me a few nights ago having an adult meltdown that my mom keeps changing my plans on me for Skyler's & My trip, especially the Disney part. There were a lot of Firsts at Disney I was looking foward to sharing with Skyler, and feel like now that is going to have to wait a while longer at a time where the trip isn't really going to be geared toward him, and I will feel bad that the attention is on Erick & I (VR at Disney), although we will be adding in some things to make him feel special too. My mom wants to dictate when we leave for Disney, making all the dining calls, what time we hit the road to head home, and pretty much everything we do while we are by her (now she did this while she was here in VA visiting as well, and there were a lot of places like a Botanical Garden that I thought she would enjoy, and changed all of that on me).
Please don't take this as I'm complaning about my mom, as I'm really not, it just really also bothered me when she asked me if this trip was really for me or for Skyler, especially the Character Meals. Of course the trip is for both of us, and the Character Meals are for him. She even asked me if we had to do MNSSHP, which we have never done, so I do feel like this is going to be a special time for all 3 of us. It just feels frusterating I guess when the trip is PIF, the tickets for MNSSHP are already purchased and non-refundable, and she throws this on me. I did kindly ask her for no more changes please, as really I don't want to have any regrets this trip.
I have also yesterday found out that my roommate from college, Courtney, who is also still my BFF, will be in Virginia in June, as her parents have a wedding to attend 3 hours away from us. She and her hubby Paul are either going to come out by us, or we're going to head out by them where they'll be staying in Williamsburg (which we've never visited yet), and our friend Brian(whom lives close by, but Erick & I get to see more frequently, since his Dinlaws live 45 minutes away from us, and his wife is having to live with them right now because her medical condition is actually getting worse). Erick & I unfortunately weren't able to make it to Courtney & Paul's Wedding last April, but it will be nice to finally meet Paul, and for them to meet Skyler. It will also be nice to have a mini-College Reunion. So there may be another Theme Park visit thrown in, possibly to Busch Gardens Europe in Williamsburg if we head out there. We think they are heading out here Father's Day Weekend, which sadly I know Erick has to work all day that Friday, but can hopefully take that Saturday & Sunday off of work, and enjoy his Father's Day.
I am sorry for my griping about our UPS Delivery out here, but they defanitely need to get their act together. Erick has even told me this is the reason the company he works for doesn't use them, since their location is very unreliable. Enough about them though.
On a brighter note, I did order Skyler's rain cover for his stroller yesterday, and that should be here soon (I made sure FedEx could deliver it), and I am waiting to hear back from a company that sells the O'Pair Child/Adult Wastepack type harnass, before I order it to see if they will ship it via FedEx. I do also need to order a Sippy Cup Tether for Skyler's new stroller that he can't get undone, as one for his snack cup, so we don't have any missing sippy cups, or snack cup. He has figured out how to un-velcro the No-throw Bottle Strap we had for a long time for him. There are still things we need to purchase for the trip, but thank goodness everything seems to be coming along little by little.
I still haven't made the Autograph Books, and I think since we're only going for 2 days now, we may just use the Park Autograph Books (which I am going to have ordered and Mouse Ears already Embroidered with our names on them, and possibly this way instead of either having them shipped here, I may go through Memories by Betsy so we have something waiting for us (and my mom can't ask the question..."What did you buy? Do you really need it?").

I did forget to mention something else. When my mom was trying to cut days of our trip (trying to make it only down to one), she wanted to cut DHS. That nearly broke my heart, as that day is specifically for Skyler's interests and those attractions & Character Meal being at DHS. I told her she couldn't do that to Skyler. She wanted to cut it simply because she thought there was nothing for him to do there. I told her Playhouse Disney Show is there, and his lunch Date with Handy Manny would absolutely under no circumstances be cancelled. Seriously she wanted to break her oldest Grandson's Heart. Rant over. I thought I needed to share this since it was bothering me. Erick almost made a comment to me on staying the 4 days, 3 nights, and my mom can go back early if she wants and he will arrange one way for us to fly back from MCO and let us get to the airport via DME, since he even thought it was a little ridiculous that my mom wanted to cut almost every park, and make our Disney Trip like we used to, as a day trip. Sorry Mom, not happening this time. I swear some days she thinks I'm still 5, not 27. I am about compromise, but there are parts of this trip I am not willing to cut, especially when I know it's going to take us another couple of years to return to Disney and she can drive up whenever she feels like it. Sorry again for my rant, my head is full and spinning with thoughts right now.
Thank you so much Marnie! I wish she could let us enjoy the 4 days at Disney. She is just making me feel like a mixed bag of emotions right now, either I want to cry or want to scream (into a pillow).
I know you're not complaining about your mom, just the situation, but I would be upset too. This is your vacation to plan, not your mom's. She is coming along, and if there is something she doesn't want to do, than she can choose to go her own way. It sounds like you know what you want to do with Sklyer to make it special, so if you are going to have regrets, then keep things the way you want them. Just my two cents .
I was going to suggest what it seems like Erick already suggested about spending sometime time at Disney with your Mom and then some time with just Skyler and you so you could do what you wanted. that it all gets straightened out.
Thanks Melissa & Kelly. I'm just trying to keep the peacewithher however she really doesn't get it. I can understandher wanting us to do stuff that is Free and won't break the bank, and I defanitely understand about her back, but you are both right it is Skyler's & my vacation. I actually suggested to her going home and she was offended that we would stay without her. I know as an adult it is hard making those hard decisions that are going hurt those you love. Erick just keeps reminding me that if if he couldn' afford to send us we wouldn't be going, but that isn't the case.
