Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

What a great start to your tour! With the exception of the food at dinner. All the goodies you get with the tour is pretty awesome! The guy dressed as spiderman cracked me up. That is definitely a Walmart Halloween costume.

What a wonderful first day! You really packed a lot in on your own. And how absolutely cool about your great aunt winning an Academy Award, and very cool memento you have now with the picture in the theatre.

The company was great and I think this will be a wonderful touring group. There are mostly adults, two 10-ish-year-old girls, and a few young, but very mature teens. It'll be interesting to see how they accomodate the different ages and interests.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you for Club 33! Enjoy your tour tomorrow, especially at Jim Henson Studios! Sophia was wearing her new Animal t-shirt today!
I love that shirt she got! I'm still thinking of going back to the Soda Shop for the Mickey shirt.

The location is perfect for a non-Disney LA visit. The staff is great also. Of course, all you need to do is say, "I'm with Adventures by Disney" and they practically leap over the counter to help!

Edit: I was curious, so had to google hints to the quotations: Who''s who on the walk to Hollywood
Thank you for that link, Sharon! I had asked guide Matt if there was a key and he said that the intent was for them to remain anonymous. I should have known someone would have researched and made a website! Now I'm going to go back to the mall area this afternoon to look at more quotes. It was getting frustrating to read them and not know the authors.

His costume wasn't even the worst, but I couldn't take pics unless their backs were turned as I didn't want to be hit up for money. Some of them really did make more of an effort with the costumes, and you have to hand it to them for figuring out a way to make some money these days. The tourists posing with them didn't seem to have any complaints. The Captain Jack character was really good, but the Mickeys (there were several out at the same time!) were just sad-looking.

I never met her, but my Grandfather spoke of her. It is something, though-- FIVE Oscars is pretty great.

It's supposed to be cooler today (mid-80's), which should help. I don't see much on Tam o'Shanter's website for veggies, but I'm hoping they'll come up with something good! If not, a nice dinner at a sit-down place in the area is definitely called for.

Great day! That area around your hotel looks like a lot of fun, it's good that there is so much to see within walking distance. I can't believe how small Rita Hayworth's feet were! Here hands too, they look child sized. Those costumed characters around the theater remind me of the ones in NYC's Times Square. Last winter we took the girls to the city and when we passed the people dressed like Minnie and Mickey even Kaeli asked, "what is wrong with Mickey??" He definitely did NOT look like the one we are all used to at the parks!

Looking forward to more!

Sounds like you had a fabulous first day! I'm sorry that dinner wasn't entirely up to par, but it sounds like you are with a good group of people.

I'm interested to hear how today goes and see your photos from the open air bus!

And yes, as to your earlier comments... Meri is definitely growing up too fast! I'm not ready! But I do know we'll get to hang out with you before she's grown!!!

Sounds like an awesome start! That tour of Paramount sounded like so much fun! And not to hijack, but Jeannie, I can't believe you've seen so few stars! I've seen more than that here in NYC. I just saw Henry Winkler about a week or so ago!

I'm glad you're enjoying the new (kind of) Loews Hotel, Laurie. It's interesting to see what changes they're making. And I'm glad to hear your guides are already taking such good care of you! And I'm finding it very interesting to hear how the tour has changed.

I was born in the city of Los Angeles and grew up on the east side of LA...middle class, suburbs, not all that hip. Stars really wouldn't be caught dead in my neck of the woods, lol!

Funny that you mentioned Henry Winkler. I saw him on my cousin's wedding day when we were having photos taken at a really nice hotel in Pasadena. Henry Winkler was walking out when we were walking in. Since my cousin was in her wedding dress, Henry congratulated her and told her how beautiful she looked.

To be honest, I can't remember much more than Henry, Bob Newhart, Richard Dean Anderson, and Gates McFadden. I'm sure there were a few more, but unfortunately none that I can recall, lol! I did see the top of Morgan Fairchild once when I was walking around South Street in Philadelphia. She's so tiny that all I saw was the top of her puffy blonde hair but everyone around was saying it was Morgan Fairchild.

I saw Pierce Brosnan at DLR's Downtown Disney a few months ago. He was having breakfast about 20 feet away from me...so effectively, I had breakfast "with" Pierce Brosnan!

Laurie - OMG what a wonderful start to your trip!! I remember reading about the "Star Trek IV" tank and hearing about it on the making of parts of the DVD (yes - not only a disney geek, but a star trek one too..). I can't wait to hear about your tours!!

Born and raised in SoCal, too. I usually see celebs at LAX - the last time they were paging Susan Sarandon - and then she boarded the plan to NY. You just never know!

"What's wrong with Mickey?" I love it! I didn't know they're now doing that in Times Square.

Yes, Rita Hayworth's hands are tiny! I didn't think she was an especially small person-- she always looks quite majestic on screen. I knew her daughter, too, and she was tall.

I'm interested to hear how today goes and see your photos from the open air bus!

And yes, as to your earlier comments... Meri is definitely growing up too fast! I'm not ready! But I do know we'll get to hang out with you before she's grown!!!
I didn't take many photos from the open-air tour, but there are lots of photos from the rest of the day coming up.

Tonight is our last night at this hotel, which has been very nice.

I'm glad you're enjoying the new (kind of) Loews Hotel, Laurie. It's interesting to see what changes they're making. And I'm glad to hear your guides are already taking such good care of you! And I'm finding it very interesting to hear how the tour has changed.
I've seen lots of stars in NYC also. Fewer today than I used to. I sat next to Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward (my seat was next to Paul!) at the ballet, had the table next to Judy Garland and Liza Minelli at the old Palm Court tea room at the Plaza, and have seen others passing on the street.

I am enjoying the Loews! If I weren't so excited about seeing the Grand Californian I wouldn't want to leave tomorrow. I'm sure they have more changes in store for this location.

Isn't it odd that we're all so fascinated with celebrities? And, now that the cult of celebrity-watching has gotten so out-of-control, ironically they're harder to spot than they used to be.

Today was GREAT!

I guess the airport is a prime spot for the paparazzi!
