It's going to be an "Incredible Summer" - Page 15 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Abby chatted a little bit with Ariel and then we went and rode the little mermaid ride. It was only posted as a 10-minute wait. We enjoyed our musical under the sea adventure and then chose to go have another musical adventure at Philharmagic. After my nap... I mean Philharmagic, we headed to Main Street. I had fast passes for both Mickey and Tinkerbell which we planned to use back to back. Kate didn't want to join us with all the meet and greets so she was still doing whatever it was she was doing. As we approached the path on the right side of the castle, we spotted Suzy and Perla - the mice from Cinderella. Abby wanted to jump in line but before she did, I asked the cast member if the line was still open for them. She looked at her watch, she looked at another handler that was there and said "you'll be my last family for them." I thanked her and Abby and I got in line. The CM stood behind us and anyone else who tried to get in line was told it was closed.
After Cinderella's mice, we headed to the head mouse himself. I missed seeing talking Mickey but it did seem to make the line go a little bit quicker. Not to mention he did have limited phrases so he really didn't say anything to us that he didn't say to all the families in front of us back when he did talk. When we were done seeing Mickey, we exited the theater to go around and enter it again to see Tinkerbell. It didn't take long to meet her and in a short amount of time we were exiting the theater for a second time. My plan had us going to the Emporium next and just taking our time shopping. I texted Kate who eventually found us in the store. I don't think she bought anything but we bought two towels, a magnet, postcards, a WallE and Eve emoji pin set and a stuffed Pua from Moana. Thinking back, I'm surprised the cast member didn't offer me resort delivery or package pickup at the front of the park but I was okay taking everything with us.
From the Emporium, we walked through all the shops and then through Casey's. We continued on until we got to Liberty Square and the wheelchair viewing area for the parade. Today we were actually there early enough to see the entire Muppet Show and it was still funny. We stayed put after it was over and waited for the parade at 3. While we waited, I used my device to get a new fastpass. I got one for the Haunted Mansion at 6:15 for all four of us. Today it didn't rain but there was still a storm coming in. The parade started on time but it actually seemed rushed. During the Merida section, when the dancers all join hands and dance in the circle, Kate saw a cast member dressed all in black make some sort of hand gesture. As soon as he did that, the dancers stopped dancing and formed a line again to continue on. During the Rapunzel section, the guys weren't swinging back and forth. It was still good but it was our third time seeing the parade and the third time that it wasn't a "full" parade.
After the parade was over, we stopped to use the bathroom and then made our way to the Plaza restaurant. We had a 4 p.m. ADR for dinner and there wasn't enough time to do anything so we went to see if we could get in early. We could but the cast members there need to get on the same page. One told Lenny he could park the scooter in one spot. Someone else told him he needed to park it elsewhere. Then he was told he could move it to the first spot again but he just stayed where he was and got into the wheelchair. Then he was told it was a small location and the chair would have to stay outside "but we have a table ready for you right at the door" so he stood up to walk inside. Then we were told "it'll just be another minute or two" so he went to sit down again. As soon as he sat, we were told the table was ready. I don't know if it was more a comedy of errors or just frustrating but it sure was something. https://photos.app.goo.gl/ZF6uMSE3yLpUfcXw7
Dinner was good, and we all enjoyed it. Lenny got the club sandwich with the vegetables which was broccoli. I got the burger also with the broccoli. Abby got the burger with fries. Kate also got a burger and fries but minus the roll. Since we've heard so much about the loaded fries at Disney, we also got those to start and we shared them. We didn't get a picture of them though. I actually didn't take any of this meal. Kate took them all. For as good as I've heard these fries are, I have to be honest. I like the ones I make at home better. They were good but not anything I would rush back for. The rest of the meal was good too. I would certainly eat there again. After we left the Plaza it was still dry out and we wanted to ride the train so what better place to get on then at the Main Street train station. Unfortunately there was lightning in the area so the train was not running.

There's still plenty to do even with storms in the area so we went to the Confectionery as Kate wanted to go in there. She bought a couple of those huge Mickey ears chocolate chip cookies for us and a peanut butter chocolate chip cookie for herself that she shared with us. She also wanted to return there on our way out of the park so she didn't have to carry things around. From Main Street we went back to Fantasyland where we used our return time for Peter Pan and then we went across the way to Small World. We didn't get to ride around twice with her this time but that was okay - we had other things we would ride with her this trip starting with the Haunted Mansion.
New to us this year at HM, for those that are able to do it, the cast members prefer you to park scooters under the roof of the building on your left as you get in line for the ride. We had the wheelchair so Lenny parked the scooter, got in the wheelchair, and then we got in line. Kate knows this isn't my favorite attraction so she kept teasing me, saying that we would get stuck while going backwards from the attic scene. I just laughed and then used the device for another fastpass. We chose the little mermaid ride this time. It didn't take too long before we were inside and then finally boarding our doom buggies and nothing happened. That is until we got to the part after the attic. Yes, the ride stopped just as Kate said it would. I heard Kate laugh from her doom buggy however and I just had to smile. The joke was really on her. I was tired enough that I could have fallen asleep sitting there slightly reclined, in the dark, with Lenny's shoulder as my pillow. We weren't stuck though. We were only stopped a minute or two - just long enough for someone to transfer to or from the ride. Kate told me some time later though that her last few trips, she has truly been stuck on it for a while, not just a short while for transfers. I laughed and told her it was all her fault then as we've never been stuck for any length of time.
When we were done with Haunted Mansion, for whatever reason, we decided to try and change our fastpass time we had. I couldn't do it with my device however. Since it wasn't that far away, we headed to Philharmagic to try our luck with the kiosks there. I still couldn't change the time so I just canceled it completely and got a brand new fastpass for Pooh, one of only two rides we hadn't been on yet. Abby saw Big Thunder Mountain running in the distance when we get off the Haunted Mansion and the Mine Train was running in Fantasyland so we decided to go try for the train. We had the time - and that's not to mention it would really be our only opportunity to ride before it was shut down for the night (unless things have changed the train usually shuts down before the fireworks). As we approached the station, I heard the train whistle so I told everyone to hurry it up. I didn't want to miss the train.
As we rode the train around, especially near the Native American scene, I was telling Kate about how we had seen a real deer the last time we rode this. I know she didn't believe me - she even teased me and sarcastically said of the deer figures "yes, those really do look real." Imagine her surprise when we didn't see a deer this time. We saw three of them and all were quite real. Two of them had jumped out of the bushes along the train tracks and ran along them for a few seconds before jumping back into the bushes. As with most wild animals, even if I had my camera ready, I wouldn't have been able to get a picture of them.
It was getting late by this point in time. It was still before the fireworks but it had started to get dark and we were all starting to feel tired so we decided we wanted to use our fastpass for Pooh and make it our last ride for the night. We were blown around, we bounced, we floated, and then we shopped. Oh wait, that last one isn't part of the ride is it? No, it's not but after Pooh, that's what we did. We went back to the Confectionery where Kate bought some things ( I don't remember what she got) and I bought a small sugar cookie, a gingerbread cookie, and a Mickey-shaped scone. With our treats in hand, we made our way back to the TTC. Instead of taking the bus, Kate chose to ride with us. I think she liked being driven around on something other than a bus. I can't say I blame her. I like it too - that's why Lenny does all the driving on vacation (to be fair, when we're home I let him do almost all the driving then too). Once we were back at the resort, we said goodnight to Kate. She went to her room, and then Lenny got himself coffee ( I know it's not mentioned often but he did this every night) and I got things ready for the next day. By 11 or 11:30 we were in bed and asleep.
Lots of great updates! Glad you had a great day at MK and we’re avle to get the scooter changed out so quickly. Sorry Lenny mixed up his meds and spent the day sleeping, but you had a great day with Kate despite the rain. And another great day at MK! Great that Kate could join you!!
Your non-park day sounds like fun even with the waiting out of the storm to finally do the mini-golf course. Hilarious that Micky lost his pants! Great start to your MK day! I love your face and Abby's on the SDMT! So much joy! We haven't seen Perla and Suzy forever. Cool photos with them and Mickey and Tink! Love all the parade photos, but so weird that it was incomplete every time.
Saturday- was an interesting day with the rain. I hadn't played miniature golf in quite a long time and not even that course either. That was fun! Being late to Trail's End was BAD! I had to take a bus to MK and then the boat to FW. It was the bus that took forever....the boat was letting people off as I made my way there. (I hustled). Talk about being rude- I should have left sooner but I didn't. The Best Fried Chicken ever! Even my son said it was the Best meal when I took him for the 1st time in May. Darlene was right- our conversations were easy and flowed because she & I had been talking (texting) for many years. And while Darlene & Abby got dinner, I tried to get Lenny's recipe for his Fried Chicken. I will just have to plan a visit to go up and try it!
There is a picture of a white horse in Darlene's pictures. Abby & I wondered over to see them. Of course I wanted to take picture of her & I with them in the background. Overall that day was a Blast! I am really Glad that Darlene agreed to this crazy idea I had- if she didn't I wouldn't have gone.
Sunday- That was the longest day I ever spent in one park EVER! It was also very humid too and 1st time where I had to buy a cooling towel. Abby & I be came each other's Ride Buddy, which I thoroughly enjoyed because most times I am by myself. She was very talkative and I was afraid she wouldn't talk to me at all, because she didn't know me like her Mom did. But no Abby was very good at having a conversation with me. When I separated from them (they were headed to their M & G), I decided I was hungry and went to Peco's Bills to enjoy their nachos. Plus I went on a few rides too like, Tiki Birds, POC, Country Bears and did a little browsing in the stores too. My thing I was already jumping on their vacation, but I didn't want to overstep my boundaries. Again I had a Blast! I loved the fact I could hitch a ride back to Music- I definitely got spoiled! I love sharing my favorite snacks and they were willing to partake too!
I was totally worm out once I got back to my room. Every time I came back from being outside in that sticky humidity, I took another shower which actually relaxed me so I could fall asleep quicker.
It was also a good thing that Darlene insisted that I stay at All Star Music- Good call! They were in the Calypso and I was in Broadway. Yeah it was a long walk to the Main Building but I had found a short cut on Friday night, so my poor feet didn't have to walk further.
I know Monday has not been posted yet..... but I still had a BLAST!

What a great couple of days! Things really seemed to have righted themselves and you are able to have a wonderful time! Once again, I'm amazed at just how much you get done! You are definitely a Jedi Master at park navigation!
Another busy few days. I'm glad Lenny got a good long sleep. Hopefully that helped him feel better and get recharged. Visiting the Lighthouse for Lane must have been a bit emotional. As a happy side note to that sad experience, Lane's family celebrated the birth of a new son this past summer. (They live in a small town near us and the paper had an article on the birth.)
What a great day - you got so much done! You got a tiny little break there on HM - honestly I like those - just a moment to yourself. So funny that it stopped, even if just for a bit.

Thanks Marnie. We did have a couple of great days at the MK and I'm so glad Kate joined us. It really was a lot of fun. Lenny taking extra meds wasn't any fun but since we had planned on letting him sleep as long as he needed on Saturday, things ended up working out well. He doesn't play mini golf anyway so since we went without him, I knew he'd really be able to get some good sleep without us interrupting him.

Thanks Cam. The day was a lot of fun. We still laugh at Mickey losing his pants - and I got it on video to share with everyone . We do love the mine train and it was cool we found Suzy and Perla. I think that's why Abby wanted in line - the last time we saw them was over at 1900 PF before they were removed. The parade was weird this year but at least we got to see what we did.

Thanks. They were. Lenny really did need some sleep so I'm glad he was able to get it. I think between that and Kate being with us helped turn the vacation around.

Lenny sleeping so long did help him feel better. It was kind of emotional visiting the lighthouse. I don't know the people but what a horrible thing to happen. I'm happy to hear they've had another son - congratulations to them.

We had a lot of fun and yes, did quite a bit but we don't actually rush from thing to thing even though it may seem we do.

Monday will be coming soon enough Kate.
I'm glad you had such a good time even though it was a long days and very humid. I'm glad too you wanted to stay at AS Music. It made it easier - you were close by so we could spend more of your short time together.
And I have to reiterate - being late to TE - NOT your fault, NOT a big deal. You also didn't overstep your boundaries. You could have spent all day, every minute with us. It would have been good and fun.
Sleep can make a huge difference at Disney. Sometimes you just need a few extra Zzzzz!
That's part of the reason why we do the down days now. This year it was really needed though for him. If I weren't concerned about him being up all night, I actually would have let him sleep longer
Monday morning I was up at 5:30. I got Lenny up at 6:05 and Abby at 6:15. We all got ready and left the hotel at 7:15 - fifteen minutes later than I wanted. Today we were heading to Epcot for an 8 am breakfast at Garden Grill. We got to the parking lot and set up the scooter. We hung our bags on the scooter the way we had been doing all vacation (and all previous vacations) and made it to security where we encountered the worst security guy we've ever had. Instead of checking everything out on the scooter like everyone else has ALWAYS done, he wouldn't touch a thing. He kept telling us it all had to be taken off the scooter and put on the table. I don't know if anyone has ever gotten a scooter with a canopy before but it is not a simple matter of just taking the bags off. We had to remove the entire canopy first and then put the bags on the table where he then proceeded to be extremely rough with everything. We didn't have anything that would break but Lenny did say "what if I had something fragile in there. You would have broken it the way you're handling everything." The security guy just said something like "I'm just doing my job." What he did was annoy and aggravate us and we couldn't get the scooter together and away from him fast enough. Annoying Lenny even more was his thoughts as we moved away. "What if I was by myself? Would he have searched it then or made me get off the scooter and do it all myself?"
We got a wheelchair and made it to the Land With a few minutes to spare. When we were seated, I noticed our server - Ryan - had Boston on his tag so I commented on it. He grew up in the town next to where we live. I thought that was cool. Most people don't recognize the name of the town I'm from although it would be very familiar to people that like older Disney movies. He was really nice and personable and unlike that security guard, he was really starting the morning off on the right foot. He even gave us a tip. Soarin' opens a little bit early so when we were done with breakfast, we'd be able to go on it before the rest of the people who had to wait until 9 when the park opened. We really enjoyed breakfast. Unfortunately I don't remember everything we got and I didn't remember to take a photo either but it was all good. Ryan offered us more but we declined. The character interaction was good too. We saw three of the characters right away. I'm pretty sure we might have seen them multiple times as we usually do.
We had plans to meet with Kate again today and to ride Soarin' together but she wasn't there yet so we headed downstairs anyway. Soarin only had a ten minute wait listed so we got in line to ride it to pass the time. A few minutes after we got off, Kate was finally at the pavilion. Her FP for Soarin started something like ten or fifteen minutes after ours so we all rode Living with the Land first. Nothing really changed from the time we rode it with Ginger and Marci to today but it was yet one more pleasant thing to start the day with, unlike the security guard. We event told Kate about him and she couldn't believe his attitude either.
From Living with the Land, we went back to Soarin' but this time with Kate. We soared around the world in a hang glider and then we were going to go around the world again. This time on foot. Kate loves WS so I was happy when our plans to do this part of the park coincided with her plans to join us for the weekend. And that's not mentioning our Teppan Edo ADR. Kate loves it there. I originally made this reservation due to Kate - she kept texting me photos from her meal in May and it looked good and would be something different for us so we decided to try it. We could get an ADR that worked with our plans so why not? Then Kate had the crazy idea to join us and it seemed meant to be as it was so easy to add her to our existing ADR.
