Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Their salads are wonderful and I've always had great service. So lucky to see the baby gorilla and get such wonderful photos. Terrific start to the Trek. Nice to have such a small group.
I am very glad FF was a go - the last time we had really bad service, it took forever to get meals and they were so so. This was better in every way.

Interesting to know that's how the Cast Members deal with last minute changes to ADRs - I would've thought there wouldn't have been an issue with swapping to a different restaurant, but I guess it still counts as a cancellation, so it's decent of them to ensure that you didn't end up with the charge.
I was perfectly fine with paying the no show fee, just wanted them to know we weren't coming. It worked out fine for us, but we still need to get to Tokyo Dining.

I am really wanting to do the Wild Africa Trek! My girls would absolutely love it. I am hoping to be able to do it on our next trip in 2016 for my oldest 16th bday. It looks amazing!
I hope you get to do the WAT with the girls. There are some discounts for tours after 11:30 or so. Even though it is expensive, we thought it was worth it.

The Premium gifts are awesome!! I especially like the wine glass. It's my favorite style. I actually got my first one in Ogunquit a few years ago.

I'm so glad you gave Flying Fish another try! We had dinner there the first night of our trip last Oct & it became a new favorite for us!
Thats the kind of wineglass we like, too. Much more dog-proof . We have some good rain memories, too, so I can understand your DD.

It was very humid, but the temp was not as high as it had been. The small group was great

We are headed to Acadia National Park today, so it will be a couple of days before I get back to finish the Wild Africa Trek update. Thanks for following along.

More Trekking through Wild Africa

We left off as we were feeding the hippos, and learning about their behaviors. After we finished, we made a short trek through the wilds to get to the next stop:

After a short hike (none of the hiking was strenuous), normally the Trek stops to check out the crocs. The crocodiles had moved somewhere else, so we didn't see them - that was ok, as it made crossing the suspension bridges a little less stressful

Some of the boards on the bridge were spaced far apart. Lou is 6'5" and you can see he is stretching to make his next step:

We all survived crossing the two suspension bridges!!! I can see where this would be a challenge if one is afraid of heights. Another short hike, and we boarded our special safari truck for the ride to the Boma for lunch. On the way, we saw the same animals you would see on the regular safari, but we did get to pull over and stop in several areas:

You may pay extra for the WAT, but you still get to see a lot of animal backsides:

This wildebeest was lying about 20 yards from the Boma where we had lunch, and never looked at us the entire time:

And, this handsome threesome was even closer to the Boma, but I'm sure they thought the grass was keeping them out of sight:

If you've researched the WAT, or read other TRs, you've seen the cute tins they use to serve lunch. Lunch was quite good, and is prepared by the staff at Jiko:

You'll notice I'm soaked - even though I didn't think it was too hot, the humidity was a bit of a knock out for me. I did fine, but will definitely repeat the Trek on a future trip, because I don't think I took advantage of all the photo opportunities. Some of the photos included in this update are from those taken by our guides. They did a good job with photos, and you can certainly enjoy the WAT without even taking any of your own photos.

After lunch, we had a visit by one of the giraffe keepers, and she was very interesting. A highlight of the Trek was being able to interact with several different experts along the way.

Our safari truck was comfortable, and we were allowed to stand up for photography when the truck was stopped and our driver gave the OK. Again, having a small group was so nice.

An example of the types of photo ops we got from the truck:

And, as the rhinos went running past us, this ostrich came screaming by on the other side:

We stopped for quite awhile to see if the Cheetahs would do anything besides lounge:

And then, we waited ... and waited ... and waited ... for the lions to show, but no luck. They must have been napping deep within the rocks. Next time ...

Our final wildlife sighting:

Too soon, we were headed back to Harambe, where it was time to say good bye to new friends and thank our guides for a great expedition. We will definitely do this again!!!

We had a Fast Pass for the Lion King Show, and I really wanted to see the new theater, but we made the smart decision to head out of the park. My energy level was a little low at this point

We found our way to the car, safely navigated outside the World to a store where we picked up some supplies for the week. Our next step was checking into the Boardwalk.

In summary, we thoroughly enjoyed the Wild Africa Trek. It's something we've been wanting to do ever since it first opened, and we weren't disappointed. We've seen more animals on a regular safari, but this was a special experience that wasn't dependent on seeing every animal on the plains or the savannah.
