Who's Ready For An Awesome August Adventure?! August 2014 PTR - Page 15 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Welcome! We're happy you've found the PassPorter Community -- the friendliest place to plan your vacation to Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Line, Disneyland, and the world in general! I totally forgot that the EMH days changed. Guess I need to look at that. I've been away and out of the loop for far too long this summer!!!!!
Astro Orbitor-- do you guys ever ride it? It makes me totally ill. I hate it.
As far as the monorail--- any idea how long it will be running that way? Also-- are they having dedicated GF-MK boat launches or are they going to hit the Poly then the MK after the GF? It would be very sad to have to get in the boat at the GF and then ride over first thing and see the sad state of the Poly every morning!!
Your ticker has a 3 in it!!! Holy cow!! That's crazy!!!!!!!!!
But awesome--- yay!!!!

Yes, you better take a look! The one EMH actually changed for the better for me! You know I always avoid EMH parks. But it worked out that I would be in MK on an EMH day unfortunately. Not anymore, they took it away!!
We only rode Astro Orbiter once. It was okay. Not worth the line. So it's fine by me it is closed! I am just shocked there aren't more ride closures.
The limited monorail hours are "through full summer". So IDK exactly what that means. I would count on it for your September trip. I'll let you know if I hear otherwise though. I'm not sure about the boats. They really should have a dedicated boat from each resort during this time, but IDK if they do or not. I guess I can let you know for sure once I'm there.

Who’s ready to talk about Disney Dining?! I know I am!
Let’s begin with some of our favorite restaurants…
Magic Kingdom ~
When the kids were little we LOVED Crystal Palace! It was our very first WDW ADR and it was on DS12’s 4th Birthday and they made it so special! We have dined there other times since then, including for our 10th Anniversary, and again they made it very special.
If you asked us what our favorite MK restaurant is now, I’m not sure… DH and I really enjoyed our experience at Be Our Guest last summer, but none of us thought the food was the best. Very good, but not the best. DS12 is looking forward to getting back to Tony’s Townsquare this time! And DS15 LOVES Casey’s Corner. He stops in there for mini-corndogs even if we’ve already eaten somewhere else! I also love the waffles with strawberries at Sleepy Hollow.
Some of our favorite snacks at MK are: Again, mini corn-dogs (DS15), Dole Whip Float (me), Vanilla Dole Whip Root Beer Float (DH), and DS12 loves all kinds of snacks there – vanilla Dole Whip, mickey head crispy treat with mini M&M’s, candy apples, cotton candy, popcorn, etc.
As for favorite restaurants at Epcot…. Hmm that’s a tough one. A few years back or so I would have said LeCellier. But, it’s really gone downhill in my opinion. We ate at Chef’s de France last summer and really enjoyed it! San Angel Inn is good. I don’t think the kids really have a favorite restaurant here. We all enjoyed a CS lunch at Liberty Inn in January.
Some of our favorite Epcot snacks are: American Dream Slushy (DS12), Chocolate Ice Cream in a Waffle Cone from Promenade Refreshements (DS15), DH likes getting iced/frozen coffees in WS, and I like the Cream Cheese Pretzel and American Dream Slushy (made with strawberry slushy only, don’t like the raspberry) from the American Pavilion. DS12 also loves the giant donuts at the coffee kiosks around WS. And we all (except for DS12 who doesn’t like caramel) enjoy plenty of caramel/chocolate snacks from Germany!
Our favorite restaurant in DHS has got to be Sci-Fi Dine In. We don’t go every trip, but we go quite often! I used to love the steak salad they had, sadly they took it off the menu. They have the best milkshakes! We also like Mama Melrose.
We also enjoy getting snacks from Min & Bill’s Dockside Diner! We’ve gotten several things from there and the snack cart nearby. Sometimes we make a meal of it! Pretzels, churros, milkshakes, etc.
Actually most of our favorite WDW restaurants aren’t in the parks! Some of our favorites are: Kona Café, Ohana, ESPN, Big River Grille, T-Rex, CBR food court, POR food court, and Wolfgang Puck Express.
Up Next: Our VERY long list of WDW restaurants we have been to! And, where we will be eating this time!

Oh man! You just made me so hungry! Not to mention, making me want to rethink all my ADRs!!! lol I have several new ones, so I need to leave it alone, but will be missing a lot of our faves like MM & Sci Fi!
I'm hungry now! I love the picture of your DS celebrating his 4th birthday at Crystal Palace. He looks so adorable. We've eaten at CP many times and love that place, too. One thing we don't do a whole lot is snack at Disney (we don't really do that at home either). But, after reading the snacks your family enjoys, I think I might start snacking more.
Well you just made me tear up. I know everyone is talking about how hungry they are after reading the update but seeing that pic of DS12 on his Bday made me realize just how old they are now -- and how big they've all gotten since we met. I called MC in and said look at this! And she said omg---- he was adorable. Seeing the latest pic of him at T Rex made it all the more shocking.
Okay so now that I got that out of the way-----
How do you eat your corn dogs?? hahahahaha. I see ketchup and mustard. Do you dip into one only or both or are you a purist????? I like ketchup and mustard but I think I've only eaten three corn dogs in my life? Hate the dog part, love the corn part!
And I remember you got the grey stuff. Was it delicious???
And the pineapple with chocolate and caramel-- was it dry or really messy??
Just curious.
fun update!

Glad you enjoyed the update!
I am having trouble finding new places we want to try anymore. I used to always do about half repeats and half new ADR's each trip. Now I'm lucky if I can squeeze in 1-2 new ones per trip! We just have so many favorites that we enjoy repeating!

I remember that day like it was yesterday!!
We snack a WDW a lot, as you can tell!! So many good things to try. We don't usually do that at home much, so it is a nice treat!

I know, I miss that cute little face. He is still cute of course - but you know what I mean!! I just can't believe how much they are growing up. Unbelievable. Sigh.
Okay, let's see... How do I eat my corndogs??? Um, I don't!! Yuck! I don't eat them at all. Just the kids get them at Casey's. And they eat them straight up!! That is ketchup and cheese sauce. Ketchup for every else's fries and cheese sauce for my fries!
Yes, the grey stuff was delicious!!
The pineapple was a bit messy. It was juicy. It was so good!!
