As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Sounds like everyone is having a better day! Even with the scooter going all ka-flooy!
Well if you EVER WANT to get wet, just come on a water ride with ME! I get wet on EVERYTHING with water - IASW, POTC, Maelstrom (yeah, even the ones you are not supposed to get wet on!), Splash, KRR!!

Sounds like an awesome day (so far!). Kudos to Abby - and you - for going on KRR twice in a row. That's tempting fate! And it sounds like fate got you soaking wet...
What fun at AK! Glad Abby liked KRR! And very cool that you saw DiVine - we've never seen her. Sorry about the problems with the scooter but sounds like good service if they can get out to you in the hour.
Thanks. I'm glad Abby liked KRR too - it's now another thing we can do at the park next time we go. DiVine is cool and if you want to see her, check out this site for times Walt Disney World Live Entertainment because I don't think she's even on the times guide. As for Walker, they are very customer service oriented so part of me was surprised while part of me wasn't. As to what happened, you'll just have to check back later.

I think I'm maybe more sensitive to hearing about the arguments because I'm pretty much insulated from them. I live alone and travel alone, so to me they seem more momentous than they actually are!)
Thanks Laurie. Stay tuned for if they came (or not) - I'm not saying one way or the other. As for the arguments, that's why I include them - because it is a true reflection of our trip. Do I want them to happen? No way but they do sometimes determine what we do or don't do during the day.

Although...with the heat we've had lately I don't think I would mind that much.
Here's hoping you got the scooter fixed in a decent amount of time.
For us AK is always the hottest but this year it was more so, that's why we were even thinking about KRR. In the past, hitting the cool rides and areas (Nemo, the Dig Site) has been enough to cool us off but not this year. I don't care for walking around wet either but between the heat and the clothes we were wearing (lighter clothes), we didn't stay wet for long. I'm not saying anything about the scooter until later.

And my hat's off to you and Abby for riding KRR twice in a row. I've only ever ridden it once -- on our honeymoon 12 years ago. We were so wet that we had to buy new clothes at a gift shop in AK and we've never ridden it since then!
Hope the scooter gets fixed quickly!
Thanks. Like I said, before you go, check out the link I posted above - if she's appearing, you'll have an idea of when to look for her. Wow - what time of year did you go that you got that wet? If it was summer, it must have been a cold one. either that or is soaked you more than it does now because we found the entire ride rather tame.

Thanks Cheryl. It was a rental and sometimes things happen. Lenny's personal scooter even broke a couple of years ago and he had to fix it.

Thanks. I'm glad you're enjoying it. I can't really call Abby a ride wimp but sometimes she does shy away from rides and she can't give me a good reason why. I know for this particular one it was the issue of her clothes getting wet while she was wearing them so it would obviously cause some sort of sensory problem for her but she was willing to give it a try this year, so that she deserves LOTS of credit for trying it.

Thanks. And believe it or not, Lenny didn't even get upset over it unlike when I lost my glasses. I'd really like to know why not. Do I even want to know hou you can get wet on IASW or POTC??

Thanks Nancy - it was tempting fate - and I while I don't know for sure, I think we would have ridden KRR until fate gave in to get us wet. Thankfully it happened on the second time around. Of course the more I type about going on this ride, the more I wonder how much of an impact the other people riding had on Abby. Even though I can tell her it's okay to get wet on the ride, laugh about it, then walk around with wet clothes, I don't know if it sinks in. The first time we rode, as I said it was other people who got it and neither one was upset - they laughed about it and if I'm not mistaken, even talked about getting in line and going again. So here were other people that Abby didn't even know not being phased about getting soaked - even laughing about it. Maybe something clicked in her and made her think it really IS okay.

Thanks - for him it's very accurate. He's a couple of more Dwarfs that were never in the movie but we won't talk about those

I hope you're enjoying it. We did do some stumbling but as I type up more and more and remember things, yeah we did have a good trip overall. And when I push aside the bad parts, it was good enough that we'll still go back.

I'm so glad Abby tried KRR and liked it. I know what a triumph it is to get our kids to try the new and unfamiliar sometimes and even more wonderful when they like it. My son rode Test Track and LOVED it but for some reason he couldn't explain was too afraid of BTMRR and Splash. Maybe next time

It was in early May 1999. So it was warm, but not sweltering. I can't recall ever having gotten so wet on a ride! I think this was shortly after it opened, so it may have been wetter back then.
I swear I commented on this latest update, but apparently not! I remember Kali River Rapids VERY well. The one and only time I went on it, I was drenched from head to toe. It was to the point where we had to leave the park early, because we couldn't stand walking around in sopping wet clothes / shoes (I was in jeans). This was when I was a local, so it wasn't a huge deal, but I tell you what, I never forgot. I will say I absolutely loved it (even the soaking part - we laughed SO hard at the time) but the aftermath was so uncomfortable. If I ever rode it again, it would be on a hot day, when I was about to leave the park.
Would love to see DeVine, but you know I never have. I really need to catch her next time...
I've been lurking and laughing along on your TR! AK is the park that we all absolutely love and have some of our very best memories.. The last time we had breakfast there, Miss Daisy was walking around with toilet paper on her shoe. After some discussion and laughter, my DS told her about it. She acted all embarrased, but then kept coming back to our table to kiss him. It was adorable.
Darlene, you are amazing for getting up at the crack of dawn on vacation to do laundry! Fortunately, I've never had to. I cracked up over your laundry lady. I need one of those because when I am home, I feel like laundry is my life.
Just caught up - great TR! Abby reminds me SO much of my DB. He's 23 and autistic, and whenever he comes to the parks with us, he never wants to do any of the rides, but once we convince him to try it, he loves it! And that heat in AK can really be brutal...I've only been to WDW once in the summer and I remember AK feeling so much hotter for whatever reason.
