Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

When: Sat 12th July, 11.15am
Where: Local park
How far: 1.01 miles
How long: 13.04
Average Pace: 12.54 m/m

I know, it's not the longest workout session in history is it? But after last time, I wanted to try working on just doing a really solid mile, so this was my first go and therefore the benchmark that I'll aim to improve on. It's getting steadily warmer here (ugh, I think I am the only person complaining about good weather!) so I knew it wasn't going to be easy, plus I hadn't really hydrated properly (i.e. at all ) because as soon as we got up we took the dog out, came back, got changed and went out to run. Total Rookie Error.

Andy continues to work on his 2 miles, which today he did in 23 minutes...he was a bit peeved because on Wednesday it was 22 minutes, but as I pointed out, it was VERY warm (for us pasty white Brits used to wind and rain). I think he's as bad as me for wanting to see instant improvement! We were both instructional app-free today, just monitoring progress using MapMyRun. After our warm up walk round the big pond, he went off doing his own thing while I carried on walking to a red life ring so I could use it as my start point and be able to see it from a distance as I went round the circuit (motivation!).

As you can tell from the pace, I was no quicker than usual (but no slower either!) and yet it still felt really hard. I am beginning to doubt whether I actually did those long C25K sessions or if I dreamt them?? The thought of anything more than 15 minutes feels impossible right now, which is quite disconcerting as I can't help but feel like I've fallen back somehow. Maybe it is just the weather, and the lack of hydration (I did have a head-in-a-vice headache for quite a while afterwards). But I can't complain - I was listening to a Mickey Miles episode about a couple who were going to run the Princess half this year, but on the drive to Florida the wife had a seizure and it was discovered that she had a tumour which she then had to have surgery on and she faced not even being able to walk again, let alone run. But she was so determined that she was back training in an amazingly short time and I think they were given complimentary spots in next year's race because of what they'd been through. It certainly put my whiny "ehhh I'm hot and I can't do this, wah wah wah" thoughts into perspective.

So now I have my baseline one mile time, which I'll hopefully be able to improve on, in addition to adding a little bit more distance on each time. I also chose to use this run as my official completion of a virtual run hosted by 'Fit 4 Life Race Series', so it raised a little bit of money for charity which is a good thing. I do like the idea of virtual runs, do any of you do them?

And while I was Photobucketing, I thought I'd share this collage I did of doggy pics (I'm really into collaging photos at the moment! )

PS thanks Robin for changing my thread title.

I like your post-it message. I have a similar one at my desk, it's "3 deep breaths, repeat". I find it sooo helpful for soooo many situations! Hope you have a great rest of the weekend!

Dehydration can totally sneak up on you and get you. It did to me yesterday! It was hotter here than I thought it was supposed to be and I went out for 7 miles without my hydration belt. By mile 5 I felt soooooo done. So I mostly walked the last 2 with little bits of running for a minute or two here and there. So yeah, that could very much explain your rough mile!

Patience.... yep. That's another thing that likely did me in yesterday too. Too fast to start. I know I'm guilty of that!

If it makes you feel any better, I started my training for my half this week. Had good interval/speed training sessions earlier in the week and only had 3 miles to do today. No problem, right? Wrong! So hard!! I was so disappointed in myself. I did get the three miles done, though, and that counts for something. Just keep running!

Dehydration is a big problem...often because you don't realize you are dehydrated until it is too late. If you had a bad headache, you were most likely dehydrated. Lesson learned, right???

Oh heck, I think I'd have panicked there...I wish it wasn't so unpredictable! Surely the more you do something, the better able to cope with it you should feel I don't like this tendency for feeling like I've taken a massive step backwards because of whatever combination of variables is in play on any given day...

My problem is that I'm so paranoid about needing the loo while I'm out (anywhere, not just running) that I tend to avoid drinking if I know I'll be going out shortly. Yesterday with the dog walk being first thing I didn't drink before that, but then didn't want to before the run either. But I think that out of the two options, I'd probably rather feel the need to pee than feel dehydrated and headachy, so will avoid doing the same in future!

Because I've trained for severals halfs, I know that I will get better. Yes, I was disappointed in the run. As yes, as I look over my training plan I get a little freaked out, because how will I do 9 miles if I can't do 3? But because I've done it before, I know I will get there. One bad run doesn't define me or my training. I will continue to improve and make changes and eventually get there. And so will you!! Don't give up!!

I was in a terrible slump last week. You just have to keep on running. I broke it on a team in training training run Saturday. I'm now excited for the polar vortex part two and it's cooler temps!

Glasgow is about 5 hours from here...I guess in a big country like the US that might be considered relatively close, but to us it might as well be on the moon! I've watched a bit of it - swimming mostly, and the opening ceremony (which was not the most entertaining thing I've ever seen, except the little dogs escorting each team in!) but it doesn't really grab me like the Olympics did. Maybe it will when the athletics starts. It does seem weird though to see England, Wales, Scotland etc showing on the screens instead of 'Great Britain'..!

I'll confess that we haven't run at all since my last update - it's just been too hot. I'm suffering just walking the dog, I think I'd collapse if I tried to break into a run...this pasty white Brit is not designed to cope with temperatures in the 80s! The only way I cope at WDW is because a) I've paid so much to be there that my subconscious won't let me NOT enjoy it, and b) it's the most magical place on earth which overrides everything else. I take my hat off to any of you who train in temperatures like this, I really do...

Yeah, you've got quite the heat wave going on! That's ok though. Just take it easy when you start up walking/running again. I bet after a week or so you'll be in great shape to work towards that 10k goal!
Or just wait till you see the athletics and you'll be itching to run again!

Hope you can get back to running soon!
I lapsed for like 10 days and started Monday again - it was rough! I decided to not continue with the Couch to 5k app and do the try to run a little farther each day.

Happy to hear that you started up again Kelly! You are doing it the way I started running. Walk a bit, run a bit, track my progress. My only goal each run was to run a bit farther than the last time. Even if it was only 50 feet I was happy!

Hoping you are able to get back to running soon Toyah. I know, the heat can be a killer! You can get back to where you were no problem! I think the hardest part is just putting on those sneakers and walking out the door. Good luck!
