As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.

Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Luke's work calendar which includes a fall break hasn't been officially set, but it's looking like our week will be earlier than you all. But I've also put out the idea of us going late October to early November. I get anxious that we can't plan the fall trips as far ahead yet as our summer trips.

We traveled down to Las Vegas this weekend (driving trip) and I thought of you as we passed lots of ranches with cows. I especially thought of you when the baby calves would be galloping around by their mothers. I just thought you would love that!!

Thursday 13 December – part one: “how’s Mark doing this morning?”
When I woke up this morning, the first thought on my mind was “how’s Mark doing this morning?” He was lying in bed, and told me he thought his head felt better, but of course there was no way of knowing until he got up…
Meanwhile, I was having problems of my own, which included smashing my knee on the bedside table (I’m not called accident prone by friends and family for nothing… ) and discovering an insect bite on my left little finger ( seriously – never been bitten on a finger before, so that was a new one for me! )
I found a top I wanted to wear, but I had to iron the thing, as it had got so creased in the case (mental note – that one won’t be coming again ) and this is where I love the DVC. There’s an iron and ironing board in the cupboard in the studio, although filling up the iron with water was entertaining, until I finally worked out that I could use the coffeemaker, which has a pouring spout on it.
We headed down to breakfast at Boma, and a very kind Cast Member offered to take our photo before we were seated. Mark was doing a little better than yesterday, but he certainly still wasn’t right.
I really enjoyed the breakfast here. The jungle juice was lovely as always, and for me, the spinach and tomato scrambled eggs, and the French toast bread pudding, which was much lighter than I expected. The real surprise for me though was the sweet potato pancakes. I took it to try, and really wasn’t sure about it, but my goodness, this was good. It felt lighter than ordinary pancakes, so I went back for another.
Mark managed some fruit, but that was about it.
Our server Jalil was very good, and I was impressed with him. Our jungle juice was always filled up, and our plates were cleared quickly, although to be honest, that’s what I would’ve expected, given that the place was pretty empty. Ironically, when we left, we found that there were loads of people waiting, so I guess they were eating breakfast late today.

We went back to the room for a little while to see how Mark’s head was doing. There was a little bit of action on the savannah:
I entirely left the choice to him. He had muttered about going to Busch Gardens, but I thought that would be pushing it, and eventually he opted for SeaWorld instead. As I said to him, you can wander around it, and not worry about having to do any rides, and still have a good time. He was well enough to drive, which was a good sign.
We were amazed at the variety of Disney destinations that the GPS came up with:
This was one of the trains that runs over to Rafiki’s Planet Watch, which we thought was really neat!
We asked for valet parking when we arrived, but it wasn’t running today, an early indication of how quiet the park was, so instead we went for preferred parking, and we were right by the entrance.
In we went, and we were a bit gutted to see that our ticket was good until September 2014, as the back of it said it was only good until early October 2013. As we weren’t planning on returning until early November 2013, that’s one of the reasons we’d chosen to come here today, so that we didn’t waste the tickets. Oh well, we were here now…
Everything you had for breakfast looks so tasty! I wonder if the sweet potato pancakes are the same as at the Wave? Those are so good. Poor Mark, though, still not feeling 100%. Glad he was well enough to drive to Seaworld. Hope he continues to improve.

It's possible - I did sample those over there and they were just as good.
Happy Days Mark is feeling a bit better. I think he suffers from PTSD Piglet Taunting Stress Disorder

It was drizzling and it was a bit cold (as you'll see later... ) and it was generally miserable and cloudy.... not the greatest Florida day, but in fairness, I've seen much worse there in December.
