Make your choice Adventurous Stranger...A Goin Solo PTR - Page 14 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

You are an inspiration to all us gals whose DH don't share the same Disney addiction & facination as we do. Maybe someday I will take a solo trip.
My ex husband wasn't a Disney fan, that's why he's ex! ONLY KIDDING!!!
Honestly, I didn't think taking a solo trip would be so challenging. I am so used to planning every day, making sure everyone is ok with the plans, the usual OCD planning we all do. This trip, the only concrete plans I have are MNSSHP on the first day, Swan & Dolphin F&W Classic on day two, Party for the Senses for day three and a ressie at Le Cellier on day four. That leaves all daylight hours for the first four days completely open and the last three days with absolutely nothing planned!
I'm panicking. What do I do? Waterpark? Spa service? Pool bar? Which park? It's nerve wracking. Silly isn't it?
Not a good idea whacking people with a fry pan you might dent the pan.
Snow white don't see it Pre castle Belle definately
Hmmm, you may be right about the frying pan.
I'm not feeling SW either, my three year old Niece picked that out for me.
Funny you should mention Belle (Plain Jane Belle at that). I actually thought about her too! I even have a link saved to my favorites for a wig - it shows Beauty and Jasmine ones. What a coinkydink!! Jasmine by Lacey Costume Wigs | Wigs.com - The Wig Experts

Hang in there girl, you're going to have a great time. I went to Vegas with my DH many moons ago. He was at a conventions so I had my days to myself. It was a wonderful time. I had a vague idea of what I wanted to see and then I just wandered from there. I too am a planner, but I survived letting go. I promise you will, too.

I will put forth my best effort to have a good time. I promise!
I would love to have the time to just wander and decide on the fly what I wanted to do. Can't with 3 boys (4 if you cound DH ). I say 'fly by the seat of your pants' can work too!

Proof that greatly disturbed minds think alike.
Stop worrying about going solo YOU ARE going to have a fabulas time. My 96 trip was solo. And it was one of the best yet. I did what I wanted, ate when and where I felt like it and in general had a ball

I promised myself some down time to really relax so I was thinking of making rope drop at EMH parks for the mornings, returning to the resort for some pool time then dinner at F&WF kiosks.

I like both costumes Captain Jack is a really good one but agree there will be lots of others and if packing is a problem - what about Barbosa?
I had a cc that I was going to close out due to the rate being too high. When I called they begged me not to leave and did make a point that I've been an account holder in good standing for years. I still told them no. Then they offered to slash my interest rate so I figured, why not? That cc now has a $0 balance and will only be used for my Disney trips - I also keep that limit set at $500 so I can't go overboard on vacation. I also had one other card that I transfered to my credit union since they have a crazy low interest rate too. Good thing since everything for the move is going on that card!
Didn't thing of Barbosa. Wonder how difficult it would be to make the Jack costume into Barbosa. Looks like all roads lead to me taking the Jack costume doesn't it?
My vote is for Jack, but you can't go wrong with Flo either! I'm sure it'll be fun no matter which you choose.
I think our travel styles are similar. I love to plan, but when I get to the vacation, I usually end up having to compromise with others who decide they want to change their minds at the last minute. Oh well, good thing I'm laid back!
I would love to take a solo trip, and I'm hoping to do so some time next year. I've already planned and planned, but I know when the time comes, I'll just loosely follow the plans. What good is a solo trip if you can't do what you want when you want?! Just enjoy!

Certainly we have all had great confidence at one time in our lives, though most of us lose it as we grow older. Walt Disney
Just wanted to throw down a quick update since moving weekend is upon me! I actually started this afternoon by picking up all the stuff I had on layaway for the past few weeks. First I had to remove the third row seats from the Tahoe which proved to be tougher than I thought! Not to mention it's 99 degrees out! This prompted a trip to TCBY for Wafflecone Wednesday (note: driving back to work with a melting wafflecone is harder than you think). Tonite I'll be stuffing as many boxes into the truck as possible before catching a 9:45 showing of Harry Potter (I WILL bring tissues this time).
Tomorrow I'll squirm in my office chair until 10:45 and shoot over to the new place to pick up my keys and unload the truck. Then I'll go to Uhaul and pick up the 6x12 trailer and take it to my old place and load up the rest of the boxes. Hopefully, I'll have time to swing by the matteress store to pick up the set I bought two weeks ago. I'll have them lash it to the top of my truck so we can switch the trailer to Jennie #1s truck and load up the bedroom set. I'm praying we can get the furniture into the new place at a fairly decent hour so I can sleep (on my new matteress) before heading out to NJ around 5am .
The weather report calls for near 100 degree days all weekend both in NJ and SC. Oh, did I forget to mention the storage unit is not climate controlled!?! Our plan is to wake up and run over to the storage facility in the morning to load up truck/trailer before the heat gets unbearable. Then back to the hotel for a swim, dinner and early lights out. We'd like to get back on the road home sometime around 3am.
Once we're back in SC sometime in the late afternoon, we'll unload the truck & trailer. Then, while enjoying a well deserved adult beverage, I'll start unpacking. Monday will bring the remaining unpacking and then work at 5:30pm. Then back to the daily grind of three jobs.
SO......
That is the reason I DESERVE my upcoming solo trip. Work, moving, work, break up, work, work, work.
I'm trying to fit a morning at Typhoon Lagoon in during my stay since i've never been there (or BB for that matter). Not sure yet since the pools at the Swan & Dolphin looking so inviting. I am planning on getting such much needed sleep each nite and making AM EMHs most days.
Another thanks to the Disney Food Blog for keeping me up to date on the F&WF. I started totalling up all the tickets I'm going to need to purchase for this trip and I promptly passed out!
Annual Pass $553
Party for the Senses $145
Wine View Lounge upgrade for P4tS $115
Swan & Dolphin F&W Classic $75
Tables in Wonderland $75
PhotoPass CD $100
Mixology Seminars (aka happy hour) $9-$12 daily
Hotel: $$$
Luckily, summer is "over" soon and the restaurants will get busy again. I'm gonna need the dough! Of course, the ap and TiW are for a year which means I better get good use of the right?
SO......
I got online and priced out airfare and hotel for a quick 4or5 day trip after Thankgiving to enjoy the decorations and MVMCP (which I have never been to). Think it might be a go!
I'm starting to really enjoy this single/on my own situation already!
p.s. I won't be on the boards again until Tuesday since the internet is not scheduled to be hooked up until Monday afternoon then I'm off to work until midnite. Be safe everyone - if you see a Yukon XL with SC plates hauling a trailer on the road this weekend, get out of the way!!

Good luck with all your moving! You certainly deserve it with all you have going on!
Wish I could join you for your F&WF trip! I think I'd be buying into all that you're doing (and probably also passing out from the cost!). We'd be good travel buddies. I'm not much of a drinker, but I do like to try all kinds of drinks...which means I could just take a few sips and you could have the rest!
