Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

The pizza was ok to good. If given choice I would choose Papa John's, but I would order it again. You may be able to order from off property, especialy out where we were. We just did not want to mess with it.

What a great impromptu day off! The construction at DTD is such a turn off but sounds like you were able to find some enjoyment anyway. We have several "dine in" theaters around here and have found them to be very hit or miss, sorry you seem to have gotten a miss!

Thursday, June 12: PART 1 - Magic Kingdom & Ohana

Thursday, June 12: PART 1 - Magic Kingdom & Ohana

Well we have been at WDW for several days now, but are just now making it to the Magic Kingdom for a full day of fun. We come Sunday night, but it was midnight and we had been up for life 16-hour at that point, so we did not remember much. Today, we would be fresh and ready to hit the ground running.

We set the alarm to get us up about 6:30 am to make it to Magic Kingdom by rope drop for EMH at 8:00 am. We got up, showered, shared a bowl of cereal and got out the door well before 7:00 am, but this morning five buses passed the stop for various other places around the World before a Magic Kingdom bus finally arrived. We did arrived and rushed up to the already crowded turnstiles just as the train was pulling into the station.

The park opening show is just so simple and special. There is just something about being there to see the park open. We did not make it through the turnstiles, so we just enjoyed the show from outside the gates. The funniest thing happened. I knew what to expect, as we had made park opening in 2010, so we knew how it worked. Mickey and friends showed up to welcome us to the park. But on this morning Anna & Elsa were on the train and as soon as the crowd say them, they went wild. You could not even hear what Mickey was saying as the crowd was cheering on the Frozen girls.

I have seen Frozen, but this just drove home how popular these girls were. All around we heard nothing up their names. It was a little surreal. I could not imagine there was this much excitement around one move, but there is. Almost made us want to brave the standby line for the meet and greet, but it said 210 minutes every time we walked by. That is crazy.

By the time the welcome show was ending we had made it through the gates and heading into the park. We tried to get a picture at the front entrance, then under the train station and into the magic. I know we were here Sunday night, but it was just too late that evening. As far as I was concerned, this was the first time in the park. We just took it all in for a moment, and then there was that glimpse of the castle. What is it about a silly castle from a children’s story that brings a tear to a grown man’s eye.

We decided to duck into the Fire Station for a couple sets of the FREE Wizards cards. We never played, but wanted to see the cards, and they would be great souvenirs for the kiddos when we got home.

Soon we were headed down main street. Being the planner that I am, I should have had a better plan, but by this point in our trip we are tired of plans, and wanted to just have fun. So we decided to head to Adventureland and Pirates. I know that is not a good use of EMH, but we did not care. But the cast member Adventureland would not open until official park opening. So we turned and headed toward the castle, crossed under into “old” Fantasyland.

We had FP+ set for today and knew we would be able to make them all, as they did not start until about 10:00 am. We were scheduled for Mine Train, Enchanted Tales With Belle, and Jungle Cruise. But this is where things get kinda fuzzy on our trip. I guess I am just getting older, but I just do not remember the exact order we did things in. I looked at our pictures for guidance, but I will have to talk about experiences in general terms. But all was still fun.

At this point EMH has just started, and it was obvious that the crowds were all headed in two placed -- Mine Train and Anna & Elsa. We gave a quick glance at the Mine Train and the wait time already said 90 minutes. She we headed straight over to Pooh’s Wild Ride. We would do this ride a couple times. It is just such a fun ride. The posted wait time was 5 minutes, but it was a walk on. We never slowed down in the line expects to play on the honey wall for a couple minutes. At first we were just randomly touching it, then we discovered that there was a character under the honey on each screen, so fun.

Oddly enough, We did stop four times on this ride. I am not sure if they were loading people in a wheelchair or if it was mechanical problems, but we stopped in some odd places -- in mid-Tigger hop, half open doors. You always wonder why you are stopped, we have heard and explanation.

On the way out we decided to do a quick ride on the tea cups. I can only handle this ride it we do not actually spin our teacup. My wife was willing to oblige for the most part, but could not resist the urge to spin us a little.

Now we strolled passed SDMT, still 90 minutes. Se we headed to ride Peter Pan. How fun is this ride. My favorite part is the fly over London. I love looking at the city as it seems to get further and further away. Then as you pass the volcanoes I wonder how many people toss coins or other objects into their openings. We really did not have to wait more than a few minutes to get on, but by this more people are filling the park. While in the area, we also took a spin in the Carousel and a pull on sward, but no luck there.

We did not have Space Mountain FPs, so we thought that this might be our last chance to go get in line. We did not ride it in 2010, so I did not know what to expect. I told Candi as we walked over, it the line is less than 30 minutes, we are waiting. I think 30 minutes was kinda our waite limit for rides. When the sign said 20 minutes, we jumped in line. The line started inside the building, and once we got to the interactive section I was wishing the line was moving slower, as the game was really fun and addicting. The switch backs in the actual loading room were the worst part of the waite. I think we did in fact waite only about 20 minutes, but it seemed to take forever.

Once on the ride, I loved it. Though this would be our only ride of the trip on SM, I wished for another trip. It was strange being in the dark and not being really clear about where you were or where you were going. I like to put my hands in the air, but did not dare for fear of losing a finger or even a hand. I am sure this would never happen, but I was not willing to chance it. Funny what the dark will do to you. I am so easily to please, I even liked the moving sidewalk on the exit of the ride.

By now MK is open to off-site guests and you can fill it by the crowds. We were headed toward New Fantasyland now, but took a detour at the Speedway. As soon as I pulled out, I was reminded how much I hate this ride. There was not a waite to get on, but I could not wait to get off. From the outside you think it is a normal go-cart track, but that is not a true description. Not only are you tied to a track under the car, but they putt-putt along as such a snail’s pace. I find it difficult to control the car without hitting the guide track, and as a result this ride beats me to death. The end could not come fast enough. As far as I am concerned this is a waste of space.

As we walked by the Tea Cups, Alice and Rabbit came out. They were so playful. I thought they were queuing up for pictures, but actually Alice was looking for a little girl to ride the Teacups with. Wow, she was amazing to watch as she interacted. You could tell in the face of the family she chose, she made their trip special. This was pixie dust that was sprinkled on some other family, but just watching made our trip special. I do not know if all the Alice’s are that incredible, or if she is just special -- but she was. Later that day, when passing back through again, she and a guest were playing hide-and-seek with Rabbit. That is Disney Magic.

I thought my memory was a little fuzzy, but looking back on the day, I think it is time to take a break, and the park has just barely opened. Join me in a future post for more from the MK, including my our impressions on New Fantasyland and Mine Train.

It looks like a great morning at MK! How great for that little girl that she got to ride the Tea Cups with Alice and Rabbit. That just shows how magical Disney is.

You all made very good use of the morning EMH! I think the sight of the castle makes a whole lot of us return to our childhood. So incredible the first time you see it in the daylight.

Sounds like a fun morning at the MK. Glad you had such a great ride on SM. We love the Adventures of Winnie the Pooh as well, it is such a cute ride.

SM was so much fun. I know that my boys, and even my 4 year old baby girl will love it next summer. Can't wait to share some of these experiences with them.
