FIRSTS, BIRTHS, and GIRTHS…A September 2013 PTR - Page 13 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Just joining in. Read through all of the posts and just got caught up. Absolutely love the clever dinner and movies. Your plans sound great! We were just as surprised to get DME package so far ahead of time! Loved the bunny pic. Your dd is going to be super cute in all her new disney gear.
Ok I finally started this PTR. Late to the party and all. Sounds like you have been a busy bee with all your planning. Great purchases for the trip as well. I can't wait to hear how everything works out. I think I'd personally have to consume large amounts of alcohol to plan a trip with that many people. Good luck!
Welcome! Believe me...I've been pretty tempted a few times to grab the wine and a very large glass; but then I feel guilty knowing I'll end up making my scale move in the wrong direction.

My dad is pretty successful on weight watchers too. Congratulations on your weight loss! That's pretty impressive! Shoot...I do a happy dance for amounts as low at 1/2 a pound! I'll take what I can get!!

Welcome! Welcome! Thanks for reading along! I love when Disney mail comes unexpectedly! I'm REALLY looking forward to DD reacting to all her new clothes and seeing her in them.

MERCY! MERCY! MERCY! I apologize this was not posted sooner but we have had the week from you know where! My poor husband was the lead vehicle in a three car accident two days ago (all is okay and the 3rd driver's insurance is covering everything); however, there was a woman who was two cars behind the accident (behind the witness who pulled over) who drove around everyone and pulled over in front of my husband and is trying to claim he hit her to fix old damage on the back of her vehicle!
It looks like this-
Before the accident: (Husband) (2nd Vehicle) (3rd Vehicle) (Witness) (Crazy Woman)
After the accident: (Witness) (Crazy Woman) (Husband) (2nd Vehicle) (3rd Vehicle)
So we have been trying to deal with that for the past few days and learned this morning that the crazy woman actually filed a claim with the insurance company. Everyone already forewarned their own insurance companies about this crazy woman per the advice of the cop that came to take a report, so I'm not worried at all. And the witness has been in touch with our insurance company to make a statement as well. It just blows my mind that people can be that deceitful and stupid! We are encouraging the insurance company to pursue charges for insurance fraud so we'll see what happens with that. *Sigh*
Then this morning, I went to drop off DD at daycare and the power went out for the entire county and parts of Maryland. Per regulations, the daycare can only remain open for 1/2 an hour; if the power does not return, they have to shut down for the day. Apparently the man upstairs was looking out because one of DD's teachers, who lives one street over from us, offered to watch her until the power came back on and would take her back to daycare. Thank goodness we live in a small town where everyone knows each other well and we have such a tight knit community! I was able to get to work thanks to her and about two hours later the power returned and they headed back to daycare (which is only 5 minutes from our houses).
So...on to happier topics...DISNEY!
Dinner and a Movie Night - April 12 - The Incredibles
Dinner - Hero Subs and Chips
Our family LOVES this movie! My favorite parts are anything with Edna! She cracks me up, darling! DD ended up watching this movie two more times over the weekend! She also calls this movie, "Heros" because she has a hard time saying Incredibles; it comes out "Incribibbles." I can't wait for movie night tonight and slurping up my tasty dinner (that was a hint if you didn't catch that ).
GIRTH NEWS, GIRTH NEWS, GIRTH NEWS...I lost 2 more pounds! I'm up to 22 pounds lost since January now; 33 pounds since March of last year. Hoping to keep my momentum going!
Great job on the weight loss. It's so hard, figured when my ds was getting ready to turn 2 it was time to lose the baby weight ! Have done very well so far, maybe we can keep each other motivated. Love hearing your reports!
I'm glad DH is ok, but it's terrible that the crazy woman is trying to pull a scam off of you. Thank goodness the witnesses were there! Just take a deep breath and think Disney!

Thank you! You're right...it's VERY hard, but VERY worth it! I've received tons of compliments from my family, friends, and coworkers and that really helps with motivation!

Definitely took some deep breaths and had some Disney dicussions over the weekend with my Aunt and cousins, so that helped. DH is feeling better; thank goodness! Our insurance company is handling the issue with the crazy woman now; DH even tried to contact her insurance company to provide an official statement and they won't call him back. My guess is they figured out real quick that this crazy woman is full o' crap.

Thank you for the pixies...they really helped! And thank you! I even had more successful weight loss this weekend. I'll post on that shortly.
Well I hope everyone had an enjoyable weekend! Mine was busy, busy, busy! Not necessarily Disney-related, just in general.
Without further ado...I bring you an on-time Dinner and a Movie Night update!!
Dinner and a Movie Night - April 19 - Lady and the Tramp
Dinner: Spaghetti and Meatballs
This is movie is so cute; except for me wanting to smack the stuffing out of Aunt Sara! What an idiot! DD apparently wants a Lady dog of her own now...she said she loves her! Dinner was fun, as usual, with DD still learning to slurp noodles; it's okay, she has her own noisy/messy technique. As long as it gets in her mouth, I'm good!
GIRTH NEWS! I lost another pound on Saturday; total of 3 pounds last week! I have to admit it was probably all of the stress with the craziness in the news and DH's car accident. But I think there was something else...I ate a LOT of baby spinach last week; I'm putting it on everything - grilled cheese sandwiches, wraps, bagels with cream cheese, I probably had it in at least one meal every day last week. I know spinach is popular for its fiber properties, but for weight loss...I think I found my saving grace! I haven't lost 3 pounds in one week since I first started focusing on my weight loss! So there you have it, my weight loss advice: EAT MORE SPINACH! Besides, Popeye will be proud of you!
Congrats on the big weight loss! Funny, I've been trying to sneak spinach into our food to get DS to eat more veggies. I pureed it and put it down on the pizza crust before adding the sauce, cheese, and toppings. He never noticed and gobbled it right up.
Sorry to hear about the accident. Hopefully all is well in that department. Congrats on the weight loss. I'm trying to lose all my pregnancy weight and I'm not doing all that great at the moment. I blame the kids and them deciding that bedtime is optional. Leaves very little time for exercise. I managed to drop all the weight from my last pregnancy right before DS's first WDW trip so I'm hoping I can pull the same thing off this time around. I'll use WDW as a weight loss motivator! I hope the scales keep tipping in your direction. And I admire you for not popping open a bottle of wine just because it may deter you from that goal. I'd never be able to do that!
Ughhhh, I am so sorry to hear about your husband's accident and the crazy woman trying to pull a scam! People like this REALLY irritate me. Seriously. This is a prime example of people ruining things for others. Just like the scammers that lie about their children's ages at Disney, etc. It all ends up making things worse for the rest of us!!!
Many years ago, I was out with my mom and we had stopped at a store. As I was backing out of my parking space, I stopped, put my car into drive and this lady pulled into a parking spot and actually drove the SIDE of her car against the BACK of mine. We got out, looked at our cars (everything was ok) and I said everything looks okay, no need to call the police (it was HER fault!).
I was still out with my mom & a little while later my husband calls me that the police were at our house, looking for me, that I was involved in a hit & run!!!!!!!
I was FUMING when I went to the police station. The police were actually very nice, I think they knew this lady was an idiot. Then, we end up finding out from our insurance company (since she was claiming she had damage on her car), that there was another claim stating there was an accident between my husband and her husband in some other area. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How they got information regarding my husband's car, I'll never know. Nothing ever happened with our insurance -- I'm guessing the insurance company told them to take a hike because our rates never changed and nothing else ever came about it.
It was one of those situations that I would have liked to hire a lawyer and sue them just for the simple fact they were lying scammers and put us through a bunch of phone calls and stress!!!! UGHHHH. It just makes me CRAZY!!!!!!
