Goin' Down the Bayou ~ The TR (November 1-10, 2012) - Page 13 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Your castle meal looked great! I just love the pics of the girls walking through the castle. That is always such a treat and I feel like everytime we go to do it, it's blocked off for some reason or another, and the times we have gone through it's a mob scene of people. Glad you got to take your time with no crowds!!!
Reading this post has me excited for our dinner there in May, we haven't been there in a long time!
Nice breakfast. I haven't been inside the castle since if was King Stefan's. I have a son so princesses are out.
Loved that Duffy got into the act - he is a cutie and looks so soft.
The Christmas Duffy is adorable isn't he? And, he's just as soft as he looks

I don't think I'd like having to pick
I know! It was hard to choose something off the menu, I think I liked it better when everything was served family style. Though, even though the menus didn't say it, I think you could get more of anything you ordered. They didn't bat an eye when we asked for more french toast sticks for the girls.

It seems like they block off that castle route more and more now, this was the first time I had been able to get through there since back in the 90s! I'm excited for you guys to eat in the castle. I know it gets mixed reviews because of the food and maybe not everything being quite worth what you pay, but just being there inside of the castle is worth it to me. Josie is going to love it!
Even though the park had been open for an hour by the time we finished with breakfast, crowds were pretty low this morning. We made our way through Frontierland and over to BTMRR. Splash was down at the moment, and there were CMs outside the entrance with bubbles and hula hoops. For some reason, that just struck me as funny. Like playing with bubbles and hula hoops is supposed to be a good substitute for not getting a ride on Splash Mountain.
Anyway, BTMRR was showing a 10 minute wait, but really it was a walk on. And, that’s what we did, three times!
While I’m sure the girls could have ridden more, Chris and I had our fill and we moved on towards Adventureland.
We headed towards PoTC, and for whatever reason Abby didn’t want to ride. I’m not sure why, as she never gave me a reason. She got a little whiny, but quickly stopped and we got in line. She ended up having a great time and loved the ride in the end. Of course, we had to stop for the obligatory sword photos in the shop outside.
We hung a right out of the shop and headed towards the Magic Carpets to check on the wait time. (Sidenote – Since the girls had insisted on bringing their Duffy’s to the parks with them, the rule was that they were going to be responsible for them, neither I or Chris would hold them. So, I gave both the girls drawstring backpacks to use. They were lightweight and never filled with more than just their bears and maybe a sweatshirt or bottle of water. Certainly nothing heavy at all.) As we were walking, we stopped so that Chris could put something into Abby’s backpack for her. Probably her sweatshirt, since the sun was getting pretty hot at this point. Well, as he was doing that, an older woman approached us and said, “It’s nice to have a mule, isn’t it?” Chris and I just sort of stared at each other, I wasn’t sure if she was joking or if she was really implying that we were forcing our kid to carry all of our stuff. She got the hint and walked away after we ignored her, but really, I don’t understand why complete strangers feel the need to walk over and comment on things that are really none of their business!
The wait time for the carpets was longer than we were willing to wait, so we decided to come back and try it another time. Instead, we decided to check out the Swiss Family Treehouse, a first for us! It was basically empty, so we were able to take our time walking through, the girls really enjoyed it.
We stopped for some water, and then we were off to Tomorrowland. We stopped for a few castle pics along the way.
The wait was a little longer than we would have liked, so we grabbed some FPs for SM. While we waited for them to ripen, we hopped on the Peoplemover, enjoying the time off of our feet.
Afterwards, Abby wanted to take a spin on Astro Orbiter, one of her favorites. Kaeli didn’t want to ride, and I was more than happy to sit out with her, this one makes me so dizzy! Instead, we headed over to Buzz which had a short wait. Kaeli beat me, by a lot! Somehow, she found all of the 100,000 point targets and made my score look pretty measly.
Our FPs were ripe, so Kaeli and Chris went off to use them. We still couldn’t talk Abby into riding SM, even though I knew she would love it. This was Kaeli’s first time, and she loved it! So much, that they rode again.
While we waited, Abby and I shared a Mickey Pretzel from the Lunching Pad, and I caught up on some of my notes while we sat and ate.
Chris grabbed some more FPs for SM, and we took a quick potty break before catching the Carousel of Progress. The girls were really funny, they wanted to make sure that I got to see it this time around. Last year we had tried on the night we did MVMCP and I didn’t realize that it wasn’t open for the party. We missed the last show by just a few minutes and I guess they noticed how disappointed I was. I think I was the only one who enjoyed it, though. Chris slept through most of it, while the girls seemed interested at the first stage, but I could see boredom setting in as we moved about the theater. Poor Abby was singing “There’s a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow” all week, and it was driving her crazy having it stuck in her head!
After a bit of nostalgia, it was time for Kaeli to have a snack and she chose a Mickey Bar (no shock there!). While we waited for Chris to come back with her snack, we noticed Stitch out and about with no line so we ran over to say hello.
We sat on a bench while Kaeli finished her treat, just waiting for our SM FPs to ripen. While we waited, Kaeli was trying to talk Abby into riding with her, and she succeeded. Abby decided she was going to give it a try. Boy was she glad she did, she loved it!
The girls then found the misting rocket over by the Cool Ship and spent some time playing in there. I hadn’t even noticed a photopass photographer there, but while I was sitting there watching the girls playing one approached me and asked if they were mine. When I said yes, he scanned a card and gave it to me. I was surprised when we got home that he had gotten so many pics of the girls!
We grabbed some FPs for Buzz on our way over to Cosmic Rays for lunch. It was really crowded when we got there, though, and the girls didn’t find anything interesting on the kids menu. It’s really odd, they have so many choices there for adults, but not many options for the kiddos. Instead, we hiked up through FL and over to CHH, which I was happy with, it’s one of my favorites anyway.

What a picture perfect morning! Love the photos and the weather seems to be beautiful. My youngest would not try Space Mountain for the longest time, but when she finally did, she loved it and wanted to ride it over and over. I really wish our kids trust me enough to know I would not intentionally traumatize them! LOL!
Sounds like you got a lot done in the morning. Love all of the pictures. That was super that the Photopass photographer got many pictures of the girls. So cute!! Great memories that day!!
What a fantastic morning! It's great that the girls got to do the big rides more than once, and that Abby nerved herself up to ride SM. I love that the photopass guy took those candids of the kids in the mist. A lot of great photos. So weird of that woman who stopped to comment about the backpack...

You should have told the lady there were rocks in the pack too, or some other comment that was Asequally as ridiculous as hers You certainly were busy this morning! Nice that you had a relatively empty park . Great pictures of the girls at the mister - that's really cool that a Photopass photographer snapped them!

I'm baaack! Let me get started.
- I love the new queue concept at Dumbo. I didn't know about that.
- I love Chef Mickey's, though I've never tried it for dinner. Next time I will.
- $500 in Jet Blue credits! I see a trip in the future.
- Great Passporter meet! I'd love to meet some of my passporter friends someday.
- Kaeli's reaction to TOT was just like my son's. I think he was numb or in shock throughout the whole ride.
- Sorry your meal at MM was less than stellar. The same thing happened to me at 50's PTC.
- You had a great spot for MSEP. I've always watched from the hub. I may have to consider your spot in the future.
- Great meal at CRT! I guess I'll never get to eat at the castle since my boys refuse to go near any princess.
- How rude of that woman at the gift shop!
- It's been years since I've done Swiss Family Treehouse. We skipped it in june because my husband can't do that much climbing.
- Glad Abby decided to go on Space Mountain. Love the ride photo.
Ok, I'm glad I wasn't that far behind. Now to catch up on the rest of the trip reports.
A beautiful day at the Magic Kingdom. There's something kids love about doing the big rides multiple times. And, how nice to have the Photopass Photographer seek you out.
That was wonderful you got some extra PP shots of the girls! I can't imagine riding BTMR 3 times in a row! Wow! I can't wait to try CHH on our next trip. It sounds so yummy!
