Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

”Who Names a Trip Report After “Brother Bear”?!

Who names their trip report after Brother Bear? Well, I do. I was watching it recently, as it is part of my pre-trip ritual to watch a bunch of Disney movies, and I realized how similar the movie was to my trip! In case you haven’t seen BB, here’s a synopsis:

Quote:
A young Inuit hunter seeks vengeance against a bear, only to be magically changed into a bear himself, and his only chance to change back is with a talkative bear cub.
So what does that have to do with a Disney trip, you ask? Well, err … not much actually! But that isn’t what I was talking about anyway. Actually, what I meant was the song On My Way. In case you haven’t heard it, here are the lyrics:

Quote:
Tell everybody I'm on my way
New friends and new places to see
With blue skies ahead yes
I'm on my way
And there's nowhere else
that I'd rather be

Tell everybody I'm on my way
And I'm loving every step I take
With the sun beating down yes
I'm on my way
And I can't keep this smile off my face

'Cause there's nothing like seeing
each other again
No matter what the distance between
And the stories that we tell
will make you smile
Oh it really lifts my heart

So tell 'em all I'm on my way
New friends and new places to see
And to sleep under the stars
Who could ask for more
With the moon keeping watch over me

Not the snow, not the rain
Can change my mind
The sun will come out, wait and see
And the feeling of the wind in your face
Can lift your heart
Oh there's nowhere I would rather be

'Cause I'm on my way now-
well and truly
I'm on my way now

(I'm on my way now)
REPEAT

Tell everybody I'm on my way
And I just can't wait to be there
With blue skies ahead yes
I'm on my way
And nothing but good times to share

So tell everybody I'm on my way
And I just can't wait to be home
With the sun beating down yes
I'm on my way
And nothing but good times to show
I'm on my way

Yes, I'm on my way
Yeah, that’s what I’m talking about. So now you ask what that has to do with a Disney trip. Well, aren’t we just full of questions today! I’ll explain…

I’ll begin with a confession. My name is Sharon, and I am a trip report addict. "Hi, Sharon." I really enjoy reading about others’ experiences at Disney, and it helps me not miss the parks so much. So one fine day, I was reading a trip report on another board of a girls only trip and in my reply, I offhandedly mentioned that if they ever took another girls only trip, I wanted to come too! Others echoed my sentiments and before long, a big girls only trip was in the works!

Then a few of the ladies invited their moms, so I asked my DM if she wanted to go, and being that we share the same DNA, she of course said “YES!” My DM and I are very close, and in fact, we’ve taken a mother-daughter Disney trip in the past to Disneyland. Searching for Disneyland trip reports is what led me to the Passporter boards.

Anyway, even though my mother and I share the same DNA, she is not the uber planner that I am. In fact, my parents are the kind of whack-nuts who just go on vacation without doing any planning at all! It’s a good thing they have me! I do every bit of planning for the vacations we take together, with very little input from them. They are always happy with my choices, so it’s gotten to be a nice routine. I have fun planning, and they just show up and have fun doing. In fact, DM always invites me on every vacation they schedule, just to get me to plan it. (And to think, I used to believe it was my effervescent personality that they wanted.)

So why am I mentioning all that? There you go with the questions again! DM knows we are going, but she has no idea that we’re staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. She thinks we’re staying at Pop Century. She hasn’t even asked me, she just assumed we’re at Pop because that’s where we stayed the last time we stayed at WDW together. I am really good at keeping surprises, so no worries there! I have a few other surprises for DM, but I’ll talk about those later.

If you’ve read any of my TRs of trips that I took with DM, you’ll know we have a lot of laughs and eat a lot of sugar (remember that $5 tube of sugar?), so this trip should be lots of fun for both of us.

I’m really excited about my stay at the AKL. It’s the only resort that I’ve never even set foot in before. I’ve only seen it from pictures in trip reports and specials on the Travel Channel. I’ve had the AKL episode of Great Hotels on my TiVo for three months and I’ve watched it once or twice in that time. We are using DME, and from what I understand, Pop Century and AKL use the same bus, so I plan to keep up the Pop charade until we step off the bus at AKL. My only worry is how to get the DME tag on DM’s suitcase without her noticing. I think I’ll wait until the very last second at the airport, and then go, “Hey Mom, is that Denzel Washington?” and when she turns to look, I’ll slip it on.

Shortly after booking, I learned of the free dining plan. I decided that since our dates happened to be on the tail end of the free dining, we should give it a try. I am an AP holder, but my DM would need park tickets, so whatever I lost in AP room discount I figured would be made up in the food. I ended up only getting a one day MYW ticket (non hopping) for each of us, and I’ll just let DM use both. We also are going to attend MNSSHP, so DM won’t need a ticket for that night. DM will go home on Monday, and I’ll spend the rest of the trip hanging out with a bunch of people I’ve never met before (or have met only briefly).

Among these wonderful people that I’ve never met are a number of Passporters. Once I discovered the Passporter boards, I was in TR-addict heaven. So many, many wonderful trip reports to read! I “met” many wonderful people, and even joined in a girls only trip on this board!

So now do you see how that song fits in? Go up and read the lyrics again, and you’ll say “Oh yeah, now I get it!” And probably be humming that bouncy little tune, to boot!
