Living the dream and remembering the Bagman LIVE UPDATE 10/2 - Page 11 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Great plans for all the PP meets! I have been thinking about the Safari Spectacular in the same way...the park all to ourselevs...along with thousands of other DVC members!
How exciting to be staying in on of the Poly bungalows! Can't wait to hear all about that! It doesn't surprise me that there was still availability for the amount of points they charge!
PassPorter's Free-Book to Walt Disney World It’s hard to believe anything is free at Walt Disney World; but there are actually a number of things you can get or do for little to no cost. This e-book documents over 200 free or cheap tips to do before you go and after you arrive. You could save a considerable amount of money following these tips. Perhaps more importantly; you can discover overlooked attractions and little-known details most people whiz by on their way to spend money. Click here to see free sample pages from the e-book! Get this popular e-book free of extra charges when you join the PassPorter's Club for as little as $4.95. A club pass includes access to all our other e-books; e-worksheets; super-size photos; and more! This e-book is also available for separate purchase in the PassPorter Online Store for just $5.95.

Yep, I think the days of genuinely having the parks to yourself are long gone now...

I can't believe how few of these are actually being used at any one time. I think the points they charge for them are just appalling! The majority of the time we would never have enough points for these.
Oh I'm so glad to hear it worked for you to get a bungalow! Living vicariously through you will be the only way I think I'll be able to experience them. Was it over 100 points per night? If so, I just wouldn't be able to justify using that much of our allotment....but if I was going to lose banked points, that's a great work around!

Yep, for when we're staying, which is the adventure season (lowest season for non-DVC Members) on a weekday, it's 115 points a night, so that's the least number of points anyone can pay to stay there.

Looks like a great trip overall and looking forward to hearing and seeing about the Bagman Days. Lots of great and extensive plans and many PP meets! Should be a good one and can't wait to see it unfold!

115 pts an night for Adventure season??? I thought I was spending a lot of points for BLT! I KNOW I won't be staying there anytime soon...we sure don't have enough points! :

We will be! The plan is to check into Animal Kingdom Lodge and head to Epcot for lunch at the Food and Wine Festival booths, then it's back to the resort for dinner at Boma at 6:15pm. After that, we're going back to Epcot to see IllumiNations and then enjoy Extra Magic Hours. We'll have to exchange cell phone numbers, but I need to get a new one first... that story will be coming up in due course so maybe message me and let me have yours and hopefully we can meet up.
OMG! Fabulous!!! I'll PM you my number.
Congrats on getting the Poly bungalow, I can't wait to hear your reviews of them.

I know - it's nuts, isn't it? It's only the fact that our Christmas 2014 vacation with Mark's family never came off that we have enough points, as we'd been saving them for a Grand Villa for them for a week. I doubt we will ever be able to do this again....
Pre-trip report – part eleven: a photo op meet and Fastpasses….
Sunday 28 February
Well, the gap in updates has something to do with having been very busy enjoying our wintry week in Iceland over the last few days!
Various people have been posting in the Facebook group about the successes they’ve had switching their DVC resorts at the seven month mark, and I think, from what I can see, everyone’s pretty much got what they wanted, which is great news.
I’ve messaged Sandy and Dyan, who came up with the idea of Bagman Days, to suggest a date and time for the meet in the Outer Rim Lounge. I could create an event myself, from what I can see of the Facebook group, but I really didn’t want to, without checking with them both beforehand.
I did also contact Sue to see if Jan knew about the Bagman Days. I figured she probably did, but it was something Mark and I discussed while we were away. I was saying that I wanted to be able to post publicly about what we were doing, and ensure we honoured Bill and everyone knew about it, but I wanted to be sure Jan was aware of it, as I’d have hated for her to have found out about it on Facebook. I’m so glad others had that in hand already.
I also had a browse of the Cirque du Soleil website tonight, and discovered one of their touring shows will also be in New York City the night that we’re there. Honestly, you just couldn’t make this up! There’s no way we can see it, as we only have the one night, and it’s a way out of the city, but really…. I certainly hope the show makes it to this side of the pond, as in recent years, we’ve missed a couple of their touring shows, and then they’ve retired them, without us ever getting the chance to see them.
Monday 29 February
Well, happy Leap Day! It’s not something I get to say very often… once every four years in fact!
I’ve managed to create an event page in the Facebook group for the Outer Rim Lounge meet. I’ve called it the One-Eye photo op meet, based on a comment that One-Eye himself (Steve) made and I’ve explained the reason for this meet – that this was where Steve and Bill jousting with video camera (Steve) and camera (Bill) first started. Steve suggested a meet, even though he can’t attend, and I’ve gone for the Friday afternoon at 3:30pm. That allows everyone the chance to get together for a drink, and I made it clear it could be alcoholic or non-alcoholic, which I know Bill would approve of and have an hour together, before we all make our way over to the Magic Kingdom for the flag retreat.
Speaking of that, I obviously was in holiday mode while we were away (and heck, it’s permitted, as we were actually on vacation! ), as I didn’t notice a few posts about whether there are any veterans in the group who are going. It looks as if there are a couple, and hopefully at least one (or maybe more) of them can take part in the flag retreat. That really would be a lovely way to honour Bill’s memory.
I’ve also sent Sue details of the other parts of our vacation, as Steve made a comment on Facebook about perhaps he could meet up with us, either when we’re at Niagara or in New York City. I did rather daintily ask Sue who I should the dates through to – her or Steve. She replied in a much less dainty way, saying in no uncertain terms that dates need to go to her, which is kind of what I figured. Why does it always seem to be that way in couples? I’m the one who deals with all dates, and I know it’s the same with my parents, Mark’s parents, and his two sisters. We must be more automatically attuned to dates or something.
I also decided to start looking at the shows and attractions that we might want to pick Fastpasses for. Yes, I know it’s a long way out, but heck, it’s never too early to start planning, is it?
This is our long list for each park:
Magic Kingdom:
1. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin
2. Haunted Mansion
3. Jungle Cruise
4. Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
5. Peter Pan’s Flight
6. Pirates of the Caribbean
7. Seven Dwarves Mine Train
Epcot:
1. Disney and Pixar Short Film Festival
2. Frozen Ever After
3. IllumiNations
4. Meet Disney characters at Epcot character spot
5. The Seas with Nemo and Friends
6. Soarin’
7. Spaceship Earth
8. Test Track
9. Turtle Talk
Hollywood Studios:
1. Beauty and the Beast
2. Great Movie Ride
3. Muppet Vision 3D
4. Toy Story Midway Mania
5. Voyage of the Little Mermaid
Animal Kingdom:
1. Festival of the Lion King
2. Finding Nemo – the Musical
3. It’s Tough to be a Bug
4. Kilimanjaro Safaris
5. Meet Disney pals at Adventurers’ Outpost
At the moment, I’m working on the assumption that Rivers of Light won’t have Fastpasses, but that it will have a dining package, that I hope will be similar to World of Color in Disneyland. That’s part of my reason for eating at Tiffin’s, to enjoy a new restaurant, but also to take advantage of that package. Fingers crossed I’m right!
I was also a bit confused by the Star Wars Launch Bay. It doesn’t seem to have a Fastpass, according to the list I saw under attractions at the Studios, although interestingly, meeting Kylo Ren popped up when I searched for Fastpasses, although personally I think I’d rather meet Darth Vader. Don’t get me wrong, I did enjoy the latest film, and he was a great villain, but I just prefer Darth, having grown up with him. Oh well, I guess when we get to 60 days out, which let’s face it is still some considerable way off, I’ll find out the situation, and whether there are Fastpasses available or not.
Your plans look fabulous and congratulations on getting into the Poly bungalows!!! I'm so excited for you and for us since we'll get to see all your wonderful pictures of it! The Bagman Days sound like the perfect way to honor Bill. Your Fastpass picks are similar to what I seem to always choose when planning for a Disney trip! Your trip is going to be here before you know it!
