As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Wow! What a food filled day! All sounds so tasty! And you got some really fantastic photos today from China, Japan & Illuminations.

LOL, no it wasn't super-exciting in there. It looks like you've stepped into a 1980s time warp. I didn't use the restroom there, but David said it had a very "retro" feel.

Yes, it was great of Michelle to offer to share with us. I struggled a bit with my camera on this trip. I just didn't have any desire to lug around my big camera bag. So I would often just throw my camera in my backpack, but that meant that stuff kept happening like me ending up at IllumiNations without a tripod!

Are you vegetarian or just don't like seafood? David doesn't care for seafood, but he was actually looking forward to this meal because he had heard so many things about the NY Strip. And the meal lived up to his expectations. As Laurie has confirmed, I've also heard good things from vegetarians, though I admit I didn't pay close attention to non-meat options on the menu.

I was thankful that I didn't feel bad the entire night. I had looked forward to the dessert party for so long, and I was hoping I wouldn't have to bail out early.
We must have been really tired, because we both slept in until 9:00 a.m.! We got up and got ready, then packed up all or our bags and Owners Locker and called Bell Services for our luggage transfer to AKL. When the bellman arrived, he gave us our claim tickets and told us that the bags would be available over at AKL after 1:30 p.m.
This was our first split stay, so I was a bit nervous about the luggage transfer. Everyone here assured me it would be easy-peasy, and it was!
With the luggage squared away, off we went to Epcot. We stopped at the gift shop at the International Gateway. I purchased a F&WF refrigerator magnet, another pin, and a hip lanyard for my pins, as my neck lanyard was full! While browsing the shop, I got an email from my boss that a co-worker’s parents had been killed in a car accident the day before. So sad.
By now, it was almost 11:00, so we decided to just hang at the IG and wait for rope drop into WS. While we waited, we saw Lady Tremaine and the Stepsisters out greeting guests. Their line was closed, but I still got to snap a cute photo of them.
At 11:00, we were headed across the bridge and off to the races at the F&WF! The CMs in France were dancing and singing and shouting “Bon jour!” What a great way to start the day!
We had never entered WS from this direction right at rope drop, so we couldn’t believe how empty everything was!
We started our day at the Japan booth, where we had a California Roll (sorry, I don’t do raw fish!), the Sukiyaki Beef Pan, and a glass of Bishounen Junmai Ginjo Sake. Both the sushi and the beef were good. I was surprised at how flavorful the beef was, and I thought the little mini-hot dog bun was an interesting presentation for it!
I took this picture of the beer tap at the Japan booth. I thought it was cute.
I was really looking forward to the new Florida Local booth, which was next. I had the Florida Shrimp Ceviche with Fire Roasted Vegetables, Fried Plantains and Cilantro and a glass of Florida Orange Groves Hurricane Class 5, Florida White Sangria. Oh. My. Goodness. The ceviche was so fresh and the flavors were nice and clean and crisp. This was one of my favorite dishes of the whole festival! Unfortunately, I was so excited about it, that I just dug right in and forgot to take a photo!
Hops & Barley was next, in the American pavilion. I got the Pumpkin Mousse with Ocean Spray Craisins and Orange Sauce, while David couldn’t pass up a Samuel Adams Boston Lager. The mousse was interesting, and I enjoyed it more than I expected, as I’m not overly fond of pumpkin.
We then moved on to Italy. The charming CMs there made a great, big fuss over my birthday and, because I was wearing my tiara, also called me “Principesa”! While I would have loved to stay there longer with my adoring fans , we ordered a Ravioli di Formaggio all’Emiliana (baked cheese ravioli with creamy beef Bolognese sauce, Parmesan, and Mozzarella), a Cannoli al Cioccolato (Chocolate covered cannoli with sweet ricotta, chocolate and candied fruit) and a glass of Chianti Castello di Querceto. We found a shady spot to sit outside the Venetian mask shop. We liked everything here, though none of it was remarkable.
Poland was right next door, so that’s where we went next. We ordered the Kielbasa and Potato Pierogie with Caramelized Onions and Sour Cream and a Tyskie beer. The chef saw my birthday button and started clanging his spatula on the grill and shouting, “Happy birthday, Shayne”! So fun! My boss is of Polish descent, so I sent him an email and a couple of photos to let him now we were thinking of him today. His response was something along the lines of: “Polish cuisine can be summed up thusly: flour, sausage, beer, sour cream, and more beer.” I told him that, based on what we were eating, that sounded just about right. LOL.
Staying in Europe, we went to Germany next. David got Roast Bratwurst in a Pretzel Roll, and I had Apple Strudel with Karamel and Vanilla Sauce, and we shared a glass of Selbach-Oster Riseling Spatlese. The food was good. I liked my strudel better than the ones I’ve had recently at Sommerfest, though I honestly don’t know why they’d be different.
We browsed the shops in Germany for a bit. I bought some Adidas slide-on sandals that felt heavenly on my tired feet, and David found a yellow crown. It was made for kids -- the foam kind that you can wrap around your head and fasten. He said that since I was wearing my tiara, he felt he needed some royal headwear also, and this blended in perfectly with his yellow baseball cap.
From here, we headed toward the front of the park to begin making our way to the AKL bus stop. We stopped at the Hawaii booth for the Kalua Pork Slider with Sweet and Sour Dole Pineapple Chutney and Spicy Mayonnaise, a Mai Tai and a Kona Brewing Company Big Wave Golden Ale. I thought the slider was awesome -- another F&WF favorite for us!
Ok, I officially need breakfast now after reading that! So neat to see Lady Tremaine and the stepsisters out in Epcot - I've never seen them there before and had no idea they did meet and greets there. You learn something new every day.

Just found this TR and loving it! I appreciate all your details for the food and restaurants and the photos are great. Everything sound fun and I'm jealous you are getting all the F&W booths in!!! And you tried some restaruants that I have been very interested in trying - Flying Fish and Narcoossees! Can't wait to read more!
Ok, I really have a problem here. If I read your updates in the morning I get hungry and if I read them late at night (as I'm about to go to bed) I get hungry too. At least this time you warned us.
