2 Year Anniversary PTR September 2010 - Page 11 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

So, strictly speaking, this is not a Disney-related update, but I feel that it could affect either the Disney Trip or the pace we take while on the Disney Trip, so I am updating anyway.
For maybe 2 1/2 years, David has had a chronic shoulder condition. He is in constant low-level pain with increasing flare-ups of more intense pain. When we got insurance again in January, we went to the doctor and he referred us to Physical Therapy. *sigh*
So David dutifully did PT for about a month and a half, but the physical therapist didn't think it was really helping David, and recommended that he go back to the doctor and ask him for an MRI on his shoulder.
When we did this, the doctor wouldn't really give us a straight answer. I got irritated and asked if we could see specialist or something, since he seemed reluctant to actually DO anything for David. He gave us the name of a doctor who specialized in orthopedics or something like that, I'm horrible at remembering all of these complicated doctor specialties, and a week later we met Dr. Kim. Dr. Kim immediately ordered an MRI (for later that day, in fact!), and said he didn't like how much David's mobility with his right arm was being limited by his shoulder pain.
After the MRI results came back, we had a follow up appointment with Dr. Kim. He said it was something called impingement (again, working from memory here, but I'm pretty sure that's what he said), and that his rotator cuff was being pinched when David moved because of inflammation. He gave David some anti-inflammatory medication (a different kind than he was already taking), and some pretty heavy duty painkillers for the pain, so he could at least get some sleep at night.
David took both medications dutifully once a day, and said that the painkillers helped, but he didn't want to be reliant on them, so he quit taking them unless he was in severe pain. The anti-inflammatory medication did zilch for David, aside from giving him a horrible stomach ache.
The next follow up appointment, David got a cortisone shot in his shoulder. The difference was amazing. By the end of the day, he was experimentally swinging his arm back and forth, holding it straight out in front and to the sides of him, reaching about his head, doing all these things he hasn't been able to do in over two years, and he wasn't wincing, or groaning, or gasping. It was SO wonderful to be able to hug him without worrying about accidentally bumping his shoulder or squeezing it wrong, or whatever.
But the pain relief was short-lived. Just two weeks later we were back at the doctor, and he recommended (sigh again) physical therapy for a month to see how that helped.
Making a long story just a little shorter, it didn't.
We had our follow-up appt. today, and the doctor recommended that David go meet with a shoulder surgeon to find out if the surgeon believed David was a good candidate for surgery. He asked what David thought, and my big teddy bear of a husband said, his voice breaking, "I just don't want to hurt anymore. I want to be done with it." If I could take his pain on myself, I would. I hate watching him hurt!
So, next Friday morning, we have an appointment with this surgeon in Seattle to find out what he thinks about the whole thing. Dr. Kim said it would be a day surgery, and he would have to stay out of work only 4 or 5 days, and then be on light duty for about 3 to 4 weeks. So, if we can do this fast, it won't affect our Disney Trip at all.
I'm thinking though, that the earliest that this would happen, unless there is a miracle and there is an opening in mid-July, will be the first or second week of August. I know that's more than 4 weeks, in fact it's 5-6 weeks out, but I don't want to cut it too close, you know? I don't want David to be sore from the surgery while on vacation, any more than I want him sore from just moving while on vacation. *sigh* I guess I just need to be patient and wait until next Friday to figure out what this doctor thinks.

Yay, I'm glad you're all caught up. I'm reading your TR right now too, and I wanted to ask you, how do you post links so that when you click on them they take you to the page? I want to do that to connect my TR with my PTR once I've gotten back in September, and I don't know how!
You will need to go to Advance and then at the top of the text box is an Insert Link icon, a globe with a link, that will allow you to insert a hyperlink into your post. Copy the URL for your PTR, click on the Insert Link icon, and then past the URL into the box. You can rename the link once it is inserted or not as you choose. If you have trouble, just let me know and I'll help.

Today, I convinced David that we needed new shoes before we go down to Disney World, because his shoes are kind of done in, and me...I just love buying shoes, no matter what kind. I counted my shoes once, just before I donated a bunch of them...I had nearly 30 pairs. Sneakers, flip flops, flats, stilettos, Converse All Stars, Vans slip ons........I am a (pardon the expression) "Shoe Whore."
But anyway. David was feeling nervous about his possible surgery, and I was trying to distract him, so I dragged him to the Everett Mall. The Everett Mall is kind of dying. That was where the music store was that I was working at before my current job? The one that closed from lack of customers. That whole wing is practically empty now. But they have a Sears and Famous Footwear and a Ladies Footlocker and regular Footlocker...Plus, I didn't feel like driving an extra ten minutes to get to the Alderwood Mall which is like EXPLODING into the most awesome mall ever. But I'm off track again...
We went into Famous Footwear and almost choked when we saw the prices...I'm all for getting an awesome pair of sneakers, but even I am not willing to pay almost $150 for SNEAKERS. Seriously.
We wandered in to Footlocker and Ladies Footlocker, found zip, and then went in to Sears. David found a pair of Adidas "Superstar" shoes that he really liked, which is a nice change. I swear he's been buying the same pair of shoes since I met him in middle school, so I'm glad I finally convinced him to try on something different. They look good on him too!
I got a pair of some brand I've never heard of before...It's either "Basics" or "Asics". I can't tell, because the symbol or letter or whatever it is before the "asics" part confuses me. I can't tell if it's just a symbol or if it supposed to be a "b." But either way they are called "Gel Maverick 3s", and they have purple stripes on the side, so I'm sold. I love purple. I say blue is my favorite color, but I love purple too.
My shoes are super comfortable for walking in, which was the goal, so that's good. Last time we were at the world, I wore Merrill hiking shoes the whole time, and they were GREAT but they got heavy and hot after a while, so I decided I needed to get some good running/walking shoes that were lighter and more ventilated for this next trip.
I plan on getting us both one more pair so we can alternate them every day. I find that my feet get less sore after all that walking if I am not wearing the same dang pair of shoes day after day!
Next week I am going to try to make it to Nordstrom Rack to buy some new tank tops, and then try to find some jeans at JC Penney or Kohls. I am pretty well set on shorts, but I desperately need some new jeans. I'm not digging this whole I've-gained-25 pounds-since-high-school thing. I only weighed 115 in high school, and I was hovering between a juniors size 0 and 1. Needless to say, that isn't true anymore. So I need me some jeans that fit better. Even the size 3's and 5's I have just aren't fitting. Grrr. I need to get back in shape! I used to run like crazy, all the time in high school. Usually at least 2 miles, 4 times a week. Not much, if you really think about it, but enough to keep me in shape. Gaaaahhh! Really hate this whole growing up thing. There's no one to make you keep in shape after you graduate from high school!
Omg! I hope David is ok, and they find something that helps him. Being in pain all the time sucks, big time! I can relate with my CLD, arthitis and sciatica problems, and ALL the various ailments I have. Dang! Make sure you let the doctors know about your WDW plans as it might make a difference in when they want to schedule surgery. for David! And keep us posted!
HAHAHA! About being a shoe whore. I use to be a shoe whore too! Oh no wait, I still sort of am!!! Not as much as I could be though if I had more $$$!!!! LOL Shoes have always been my favorite "clothing" item to buy. I agree about having comfy ones for WDW, a must! If you plan on getting another pair of some sort, give a look to the Lands End Trekkers in Sears. They are sneaker like, but have mesh, kinda like a water shoe but more sturdy! They keep your feet cool and if they get wet they dry quick. I believe if you keep you eye open they go on sale a lot from the original price of $40. Actually I think right now online they are about $20, half price. I always wear them or my crocs! Crocs...people seem to either love them or hate them!
Yeah, the older you get the harder it is to keep trim. I am not so good at it, LMBO!! Seems that is how the ball bounces though. It's like you gained the freshman fifteen. Once you have any babies then it gets even harder too! I cant even remember what size 3 or 4 looks like! I have a hard time bc of my CLD and...my love of food, LOL.
I will be in the world Sept 14-18 with a plan of this....
14-DHS, Hoop Dee Doo Revue
15- AK, this will be an early night, we have ressie at 8, after that at the POP
16- MK
17- Epcot
18- MK & leave
I just looked at your schedule at the beginning of this PTR and looks like we will not be at the parks the same day any of the time I am there. Not that it has to be at the park. Hopefully something can be worked out, I dont have PH this year so. Let me know!
Looking forward to the next update and GL to David!

So, I was checking my dining reservations today on DisneyWorld.com, just because I like to make sure everything is still the way it is supposed to be, and I was bored, and there was a Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater reservation there.
I turned to David and I was like "We decided to do Sci-Fi again? I thought you didn't like it?" He looked at me and goes "I didn't, why'd you make a reservation there?"
So I look in my extensive Disney Notes, and there IS no Sci-Fi in there.
I panicked!
What if one of my other reservations was missing? What if we didn't get to do La Cellier or California Grille?
So I frantically pulled up each of my reservations as quickly as I could.
Here's the weird part. They were all there! None were missing. We just had an extra ressie hanging out in our file, for two hours after our ressie at Hollywood and Vine.
I thought about calling, but it seemed like a lot of work, so I just canceled the extra ressie and then double checked again to make sure the rest of my reservations were present and accounted for. All was well.
I just wondered if anyone else had ever had a similar experience...Do you think I should have called?
I forgot to mention, David got me Toy Story Mania for the Wii on my birthday! We played it for the first time last night. It's not nearly as good as TSMM in WDW, but it's still pretty fun. At first I was really kickin' David's butt, but then he beat me like six times in a row. Bummer!
It's a lot of fun. If you have a Wii, you may want to consider getting it to play when the Disney Withdrawals are hitting you hard.
for David!

Thank you for the pixies!
Looking at your Itinerary, and comparing it to mine, I see a few options for meeting up...
First of all, we could meet up at the Pop. We're both staying there, and we could have an early morning meet for breakfast or coffee or whatever in the food court. Or, if you prefer later in the day, we could meet there in the evening and have a drink from whatever it's called...Classic Concoctions Lounge or something.
If you don't want to do that, there are several evenings when we have reservations at DTD for dinner...Two of them while you are in town, but one on the day you are leaving. On the 17th, we have an 8PM reservation at Raglan Rd. Could we meet just before or after that?

Ok, so I have carefully checked and compared our schedules. And it looks to me like Wed. the 15th might be good. That night I have ressie at 1900 Park Fare at 8, you and David have ressie at Le Cellier at 7:15. Epcot is only open until 9 that night, so we might be able to meet after that, at DTD or Petals Pool Bar at POP. That actually looks like it might be the best, depending on what your plans are after Epcot closes.
Otherwise, Thursday the 16th might work as well. You and David have ADR at Rainforest Cafe at 5:45, I will be at MK till it closes at 9. We could again meet after that at DTD or PPB at POP.
If neither of these are good for you, then I will see what I can do to arrange the 17th. Do you have PH? Bc another option is to meet at Epcot after your Raglan Rd. ressie, that is the park I will be in that night, as Epcot is open till 12:00am! Otherwise I would have to leave Epcot to go to DTD, then back to Epcot. Let me know what you think, make sure you check with David too! I dont want him upset I am wrecking your plans or anything. Hehehehe
When we get it squared away, I will PM my celly so you can get ahold of me, in case things change, your running late, or you jsut cant find me (if we meet anywhere but the POP).
Look forward to hearing from ya!

So, David says he doesn't care when we meet up...We do have PH, so either of the above options would work...I kind of like the idea of meeting in Epcot after Raglan, because this is the first time I'll be in the parks as an over 21 year old adult, able to try out all the lovely concoctions available at Epcot. Would that be alright? We could just catch a quick cab after dinner to Epcot, so unless we were running late or dinner service was slow, we could probably be there by 9:30 or 10:00. What do you think?
Congrats on finding shoes for both you! Yours are Asics, my favorite brand as they fit my feet well and never hurt when I'm walking. I have one pair that is solely for working out and then I keep two of my older pairs for every day walking like at WDW. I have a pair on in some of our TR pictures. I hope you like them.

Glad your ressies all seem in place!
Thanks! Lol, now I know what brand of shoe I'm wearing.
Yeah, I'm glad all my ressie's are okay. It's still very strange that I had an extra one on there...

This sounds great! We could meet at the France Slushie Cart right in front of France if you want. I'll PM my celly so you know that, for any reason. 9:30 or 10:00 sounds good and reasonable. Yay! I can't wait! France has really good slushies too, adult slushies. Yum-O!
I'm glad I realized at the last minute as I was posting about the Epcot thing being open till midnight.
