A Baltic boating adventure TRIP REPORT COMPLETED 11/19 - Page 108 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Nice photos of Tivoli Gardens and they certainly have some thrill rides which I'd love. Love the Japanese building as quite the style we're familiar with. I'm guessing a Japanese restaurant resides there?

Thursday 16 June – part six: shall we give it a go?
Christainsborg Slot is made up of the palace itself, a palace church, former royal coach house and stables, as well as the Folketinget, the Danish parliament. We first came to the riding grounds…
We then headed over to the palace itself, and it was a bit surreal to see these guard boxes with no guards in them. That may have something to do with the fact that the palace has not been home to the royal family for more than 200 years, but the rooms here are still used for grand occasions, such as state banquets attended by Queen Margrethe II.
As we walked through here…
… Mark spotted this sign:
Ok, let’s give it a go then. We couldn’t see anything that said there was a fee, and they did have signs up saying that only 40 people could go through at any one time, so we had no idea how long we’d have to wait to get through, but they let us through within five minutes. We had to clear a security check, then we had to wait for an elevator. That only took eight people at a time, and the first lot went up fine. Then it was us. We got seven people in, and a guy clearly yelled only one more could get in. Two American women decided they were both getting in. The lift stood there and refused to move, with an alarm going off. We all shouted at them, and told them one had to get out, and eventually they worked it out and both got off. Good grief!
We had to take another lift after that…
… which then let us out here with these statues…
Then we had to climb a couple of flights of stairs to get to the viewing platform. Wow, what wonderful views we had from here and for free!
I have no idea whether I'll have time to do any updates over the next couple of days (early start tomorrow for work and we're away over the weekend), so if there are no updates, you know why...

Well, after a wonderful and very relaxing anniversary weekend, it's time to get this show back on the road...
Thursday 16 June – part seven: we don’t have these at home any longer…
When we were done with photos at the top of Christiansborg Slot, we headed back to ground level…
We were fascinated by this sign…
… and Mark spotted them beneath the water.
We headed for Hojbro Plads, a cobbled square, which contains a monument to Bishop Absalon, who from his horse points out towards Christiansborg Slot. The fountain here is named Storkespringvandet or the Stork Fountain, but the birds depicted here are actually herons.
However, there was something else we spotted in here, and you may have already seen it in some of these photos…
Imagine my delight when we saw adult T-shirts! We just don’t have these at home any longer…
I ended up getting a T-shirt and a Copenhagen mug (they had two adult T-shirt designs and a notepad, but stupidly I forgot to get a photo of their display ) and Mark got a Grumpy mug. The Cast Members in there were so helpful. They gave us 20% off the mug, as it was supposed to come with a coaster, and that was missing, and then we got out 10% Disney Vacation Club discount off the other items as well.
Very happy with our purchases, we headed along Kobmagergade, which appeared to be one of the city’s main shopping streets…
We were looking for a souvenir shop to get a fridge magnet, and somewhere to get a snack, but ironically didn’t have any luck on either count.
We were making our way to this place:
This is the Rundetarn or round tower, which is 35 metres or 115 feet high and you walk up a cobbled spiral ramp, which is just over 200 metres or 686 feet long. It winds around the building seven and a half times. It was built on the orders of Christian IV and was originally intended as an observatory for the nearby university. They still use the observatory here, making it the oldest working observatory of its kind in Europe. During the opening ceremony, it’s said that Christian IV rode his horse up here to the top. This stunt was repeated by Russian Tsar Peter the Great, while his wife Tsarina Catherine decided to take a different approach. She went to the top in a coach drawn by six horses. Now that’s my idea of style. Today there’s an annual bicycle race to the top, and the winner is the one who cycles to the top and back again in the fastest time without dismounting or falling off. Wow, I bet that’s quite a spectacle!
A little way up, you got a unique glimpse of the church next door, which was a bit surreal.
Then you’re off again, occasionally getting glimpses of what’s outside on the way…
We also found this!
Then we entered the bell loft that’s home to the bells of the neighbouring Trinity Church…
Some nice purchases at the Disney Store and glad you were finally able to find some adult t-shirts. That round tower is crazy and I hate those winding spiral staircases! Reminds me of Blarney Castle in Ireland, which were so narrow.

I believe I have some classic pictures of the kids 'using' the privy in the tower!
I thought it was a lot easier to get to the top of the tower with the wide curving path, compared to the tight, tiny stairs in some similar structures.
