Goin' Down the Bayou ~ The TR (November 1-10, 2012) - Page 10 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I just did MM for the first time this past trip and I had the flatbread pizza. FAB! I loved it, it was very good. The one I had, had meats on it including house sausage and it was just a touch spicy, the pizza itself. Not overly so, but just enough to give it that kick. So good.
Great pics, I was getting hungry and I just ate dinner!
Can't wait to hear about your favorite nighttime parade!
I think had the same thing at MM a few years ago and didn't care for it. We are very spoiled with tons of amazing Italian restaurants here, so I thought they ruined it for me, but maybe it was the dish. Glad you had a relaxing afternoon!

great update. That pizza and chicken parm looked like little portion compared to the Mickey plate!
Thanks! They need to get smaller plates or something, it really did look like such a small amount of food on that giant one!

The pasta was not bad, I would say to go ahead and order it if that's what you were eyeing I think what happened was that I had read so many great things about it on here that I had built it up so much in my mind, like I was expecting fireworks to go off when I took that first bite Had I not gone into it with such high expectations, I'm sure I would have liked it just fine.
I hope you have a great time relaxing by the pool at POR, try the Mango Rita

I probably would have liked it better had I gone with steak or something like that, I have a hard time turning down pasta though!!

Your TR from last year was one of the ones that had me drooling over the Penne Vodka, and I think another might have been Princess Sharon's. It wasn't terrible and I didn't hate it, I think the actual dish just couldn't live up to the thoughts I had about it going in I still don't know how we missed seeing you guys at MM, we had to have been leaving just as you were being seated

I'll admit, I'm an Italian food snob It doesn't help that I grew up with two Italian grandmothers who were fantastic cooks, nothing in any restaurant can compare to the dishes they used to make
Sorry you didn't like your lunch. And you are right as those Mickey plates are huge. I do hope you give MM another try and find something you like better.

I'm sorry your MM meal wasn't anything to right home about. I hardly ever order penne vodka while away on a vaction. I really feel like some of the best penne vodka can be found around here in our neck of the woods.
I love that main pool at POR!! ALso that playground there too is really fantastic too.
I'm looking forward to your next update, because I have a feeling I know exactly what parade you are talking about

I'm sure I will give it another try, I've heard good things about the flatbreads! Oh, and they have really good Sangria, I forgot about having that

I think we are spoiled here in the Northeast, we can get some really great Italian food around here!
That pool and playground at POR is fantastic, I know the girls wanted to spend more time there, we just couldn't fit it in!
I've got the next update coming up! I know you know which parade I'm talking about, it's your fave too
All fresh and showered, we headed over to Riverside Mill around 6 pm for some dinner. I failed to take any notes, nor did I take any pictures, so I have no idea what we ate. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that the girls had their faves, pizza or mac & cheese. I’m sure it was all delicious, we never had a bad meal here all week. We ate quickly because tonight we were on our way to the MK for my all time favorite night parade, the MSEP, and I wanted to make sure we got a good viewing spot. We had a bit of a wait at the bus stop, but still got to the park with plenty of time to spare.
As we were walking up Main Street I texted my friend Chris to see where they were, we had planned on watching the parade together tonight. She and her family were just finishing up dinner at Pecos Bills, so we headed in that direction to meet up with them. By the time we got there, they had already snagged a spot right behind the ropes at the very end of the parade route. This turned out to be a perfect spot, because across the way there is just a fence, so the characters had no choice but to look at us as they went by. This led to some great interactions with them and the girls, they really loved that!
Mickey was blowing kisses to the girls and their Duffy bears
Prince Charming was offering the glass slipper to my friend's daughter, Michaela. He made her blush
I absolutely love this parade. It’s the nostalgia, and it gets me all misty eyed every time I see it. One of my favorite Disney memories as a kid is the one I have watching MSEP from my Daddy’s shoulders just loving all of the floats and the pretty lights.
Now, we were having a great time tonight, getting kisses from Mickey and flirting with Prince Charming, but apparently the woman behind us was not. This was a full grown woman, who was there with her two teenage daughters and husband, and she was acting like she was about 2 years old just complaining and whining the entire time. Finally when the parade was over and the crowd started to move she yelled, pretty loudly too, “Thank God, what a stupid, stupid parade, get me the hell out of here!” Her family just followed her out in to the crowd, not saying anything and I just stared at her in disbelief. I mean, I know everyone does not like MSEP, but it’s not like someone was twisting her arm to stay and watch, she could have left at any point. I was shocked to see this so called adult carrying on like a child, not even caring that her whining might be disruptive to others who are actually enjoying the parade.
Anywho, we waited for the crowd to thin before heading out, just chatting with my friend and her family. I’m not sure where they planned on going for the rest of the night, but we said our goodbyes and split up here, we were planning on being back at the MK bright and early Sunday morning so we called it a night. We took the path back through Adventureland and crossed the bridge heading towards the Crystal Palace when Wishes started, and that’s when it got a little tough, people kept stopping in the walkway to watch the fireworks. We were able to maneuver our way through the crowd and snuck in to the back entrance of the Emporium by Casey’s. I almost lost Chris as he was drawn by the smell of hot dogs and sauerkraut , but I was able to pull him away and we made a quick exit through the stores. We had no wait, a bus was there waiting for us, so we were back at POR in no time. I think it was about 9:30 when we got back to the room, and I immediately changed the clock in the room since it was Daylight Savings Time tonight and didn't want to take any chances on forgetting later. The girls watched a few loops of the Duffy goodnight story before falling asleep, while I caught up on my notes and played a few games on my phone. I think it was lights out for all of us by 10:30.
That was a great spot to watch the parade from! What fun. That crazy lady was just that, crazy! I get not everyone likes everything, but you don't have to be so loud about it! It looks like the rest of the night was great!

MSEP is my favorite parade as well! I'll have to try that viewing spot. I don't know why people who, for whatever reason, are not enjoying themselves, feel the need to ruin everyone else's time as well. No one was forcing her to watch the parade!
