As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears

Moving on with the current of the years.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

It really made me ask myself "What's my passion? and What would I be willing to do without in order to have it my life?"
I'll have to get back to you on my passion.
But you brought to mind my mother. She died a couple years ago, but she worked very hard for her passion. Which was? Helping others. Simple? :. She worked part-time (4 hours a day) for a local non-profit (name hidden to protect the innocent ). She was able to help people there by clothing rooms - food baskets - ceramics class (, lonely people needing something to do for free)...the list goes on. None of it was covered in four hours. She worked around the clock, but paid for 4 hours. Before the big social service offices, she would go to a disaster (fire, flood, drownings - we lived by a huge river) and she'd bring home children whose parents were killed or in the hospital. We had so many children in our home through the years! Her heart was so big and she lived her passion daily!
I was impressed with Bo because not only was he living his passion, he swallowed his pride in the meantime. Imagine the locker room gossip about him returning year after year. Too many times, we let our pride get in the way of our passion. My mom could have said - no I'm working around the clock and being paid peanuts. But she put away her pride and made a difference in the world around her. I can imagine some of the players in the locker room looking up at Bo and say - if he can do it, so can I. I'll keep working to make my dream come true.

My passion in life is Outrigger Canoe. I race on a competitive team (vs rec. team). We travel around our local race circut, races can be up the coast or on Vancouver Island. And every other year we go to a race in Hawaii. I'm lucky in that my family is very supportive. The downside is I have to run, and go to the gym to cross train, which I hate, lol.

I also continue to make sacrifices to be a Humane Officer with my Police Department. My family doesn't understand why I work EVERY weekend and why I take orphaned animals into my home that need 24 hour care and feedings every 4 hours each spring but because I LOVE MY JOB it does not feel like a sacrifice.

Bo is really growing into his roll as a dad. And I think AJ maybe seeing him in a new light. So many stories, Bo & AJ, Bo and Kim, Penelope & Dino, Daisy & Jullian, I can't wait to see how they unfold. And what's with the e-mail from Lloyd? Do you think he's going to come after her? hmmmmm And I wonder what will happen to Bo & AJ if Yolanda is released? Do you think they would share custody or would AJ just vanish from his life?
An unmarried friend was wishfully thinking of finding a man over coffee the other day. ( Starbucks, of course!) So I say to her innocently...open a boarding house. She looked at me like I was crazy! So I started telling her about Fireside! Because I think everyone will get together in the end -- at least I hope so!
As far as Bo disappearing in AJ's life - oh, I hope not! He seems to be really affected by AJ and upset at himself for not pushing the issue with Yolanda. Somehow, I think he'll stay put in AJ's heart and life.
Ok so who else had the scene from the movie Practical Magic playing in their heads when they read the Tequilla scene (put the lime in the coconut and shake it all up)!!!!!! Great now I am singing it in my head!!!!
I found myself SO drawn to Penelope!!! Losing her husband, relaizing things were not as they had always appeared, picking herself up by her boot straps, and 'making lenomade'!! Talk about stepping out of your comfort zone!
Speaking of comfort zone - I think that is a major stumbling block to trying something new. I know, for me, it's all a bit overwhelming. I start to think about doing what I love, then reality hits. I need to draw up a business plan, How will I get customers, Is there a market out there, What regulations would I have to follow........? So many unknowns. So I just sit back down in my familiar comfort zone.
I think for some people,stepping out of that zone into the unknown is easy and exciting. Others need a swift kick in the tush. Wanna guess whcih one I am?

But oh...I fully understand about not wanting to step out of our comfort zone! At one point about fifteen years ago, I was working full-time (flexible hours); going to college full-time and our Kiwanis Club asked me to be president. I was comfortable in my schedule and couldn't see taking anymore time away from my family at that point. But I Kiwanis and my DH is supportive of any decision I make. So I stepped out of my comfort zone and had the time of my life! And instead of missing my Dgang, they joined in the projects and special events and to this day, my Dkids remember how we were helping others in Special Olympics, in building playgrounds, in countless other projects. That was just a small step out of my comfort zone. Sometimes I wonder if I could take a giant leap, how would my life be different!

My REAL dream, I'd say, is to be a writer. I mean a REAL writer, not just a few obscure things here and there. That takes alot of time with questionable reward. I suspect most people who make it do what BO did, they keep at it!

I really liked that comment! I need to step out of my comfort zone with a few things, and I keep draggin my feet, which is paradoxically NOT comfortable. That creates a constant state of conflict because I stick to a comfort zone that is honestly no longer comfortable.
The old comfort zone is a trap that keeps you from evolving. THe people in this book were forced, though. WHen you are forced, I think it is easier to change your comfort zone because you have nothing left of the old one to hang onto.

I agree they were forced to change. Now wouldn't it be better to change on your own and if things didn't work out you could find the best of both the new and the old and be furtherf along than staying in your comfortable "trap"?

Yes, we can be forced to change, but we can't be forced to make the best of things! That is a choice we always have.
