Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Pop Century

When we return from our cruise in October, we plan on spending three more days (2 nights) in the area. Some members of our group (5 families) have heard about the Pop Century. We've heard we can get rooms there through AAA for around $80 a night.

Can anyone tell us their experiences with the hotel, shuttles offered, etc? We're concerned about dining options around / near the property so we're not tied to eating in a food court.

THANKS!
Wendy

Re: Pop Century

there are buses that go to each of the parks. there's really nothing foodwise other than the food court in the hotel I believe. i think you need to make your dining choices based on what you're doing that day rather than basing it from the hotel itself.

Re: Pop Century

We really like Pop (and we are die hard BC/YC people). Our attitude is that if we can't get BC or YC, then we would rather stay at Pop than another deluxe. Sounds crazy, I know, but we found it to be very cute. Now, I will say that we have little children, and that might account for the reason that we like it so much. The food court is fabulous for kids -- tons of food options for both adults and kids. The food court room itself is huge and very thematic, even to the extent of having huge large screen televisions around the room showing Disney cartoons (which is heaven if you are a parent of mischievous munchkins!). They even have a sundae bar for desserts after you return to the resort before bedtime. My kids loved that!

The busses were great. We never had to wait long for one at all (probably had to wait longer at our beloved BC!)

We liked the rooms better than the other value (and some moderate) resorts, mainly because it is a newer resort and we just preferred the newer feel.

If you have no kids, would you still like it? Well, my brother and girlfiend (late 20s) stayed there, and they liked it and would stay again. Does it have a romantic feel like AKL or some of the more expensive resorts? No, but it certainly is a lot cheaper.

We like it so much that we are thinking of for our next trip that we will stay at Pop for a while before moving over to BC or YC for our last week at Disney.

Re: Pop Century

I have stayed at Pop Century three times now, and I love it there.

They only have a food court, but it's a GOOD food court with some different things to choose from.

They have three themed pools, with the flower shaped Hippie Dipie pool being the "main" pool. The other two pools are a little smaller and more quiet at off times of the day.

You can stroll part way around the lake and look at the lake and the construction on hold on the other side where the Legendary Years will be. On one of my stays I did see a Surrey Bike rental but I hadn't seen it on the other two.

I've only used the busses at Pop to get to the MAgic Kingdom (we have a rental car when we go) but they come often and there are a few benches to sit on while you wait.

I think you will enjoy it there! Take AAA up on the rate!

Re: Pop Century

We just got back last night from a week at Pop Century. Loved it! We will definetly stay there again. I was pleasantly surprised with the food court. Everything we had was good. We ate breakfast there 5 times and dinner 1 time.

Re: Pop Century

I'm staying at Pop Century for the first time this weekend. When I get back, I'll let you know how it was. Is there anything specific that you'd like me to look for while I'm there?

You can read the latest news about Pop Century at allearsnet.com

Re: Pop Century

We loved Pop, and the food court met our needs, but you can always take a bus to Downtown Disney for other dining possibilities

Re: Pop Century

I love Pop! We're specifically staying there for our stop through Orlando because of the Icee machine at the food court.

Pop is close to AKL, if you will have a car, for further resort dining options.

Re: Pop Century

I would like to try Pop but it will be a while before I get to as our Next trip is to the Disney Cruise but only the Cruise!

I booked it two years ago but changed because of a special but from what i looked at for pictures and read online its a great choice for a hotel.

Pop vs All Stars I would choose Pop!

Re: Pop Century

We stayed there in December 2003 and loved it! The food at the food court was good...particularly liked the Chicken Soup! The buses were fine...no big waits anywhere except on New Year's Eve which we expected.

Re: Pop Century

We booked the Pop Century. I am paying the extra $10 to stay closer to the main building, the Hippy Dippy Pool and the free transportation. Since I have AAA, I'll be saving $10 so it's a bit of a wash, but, I get a closer room.

Amy, like you we are going on a Disney Cruise. We're doing the 4 day Wonder and then spending 2 extra nights in Orlando. This whole 'Pop Century' thing was a real last minute option. I'm not sure why Disney does their 'land/sea' packages backwards but I've only got a week's break and this was the only way to accomplish it. I have high hopes for the Pop. I've heard a lot of raves. Fingers crossed!
