Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

itinerary

hi, I've been reading everyone's itineraries and was just wondering how you get the time to eat all those delicious meals and spend enough time in the parks
our disney trip (me DH and children 14, 12 and 6) will be 7th to 21st dec 2001. we're planning on a 5 day hopper ?plus or 7 day hooper - advice please! staying at DL
here goes with our itinerary so far (we don't seem to be eating much but to be honest it seems expensive in both time and money to have two full sit-down meals a day< or am i being mean?)
day 1 fri -arrive shattered from uk ?dinner at BWs or fall into bed
day 2 sat - explore DL shop for groceries
day 3 sun - downtown disney, pool ?meals
day 4 mon - ee Mk onto AK, late lunch/dinner at Boma AKL
day 5 tues - trails end buffet breakfast, explore FW, petting farm etc ?hire bikes
day 6 wed - eo MGM onto epcot, Osborne lights ?meals
day 7 thurs -free day, Ohana at |Poly for dinner watch Mk fworks from beach (anyone know what time its best to book Ps at?)
day 8 fri - my 40th birthday! eo epcot onto Mk, crystal palace for late lunch/dinner
day 9 sat - free day, 1900 park fare dinner (can we see mk fireworks from here?)
day 10 sun - animal kingdom or Epcot
day 11 mon - eo MK onto MGM, H and V dinner and show package
day 12 tues -free day, cape may cafe dinner
day 13 wed - chef mickeys breakfast
day 14 thurs - ?bb if weather good
day 14 fri - home!
I'm unsure of the wisdon of booking two meals a day and park-hopping - it seems like a waste of 'ride' time - all that eating and travelling!
Any way, any input gratefully received....

Re: itinerary

couple of questions:
How are you getting to and from the airport?... shuttle... towncar.... rental car?

Do you plan on visiting WDW within the next year after your visit? Just wondering about possibly your purchasing annual tickets.

If usuing AAA for ticket discounts, you must go through your AAA agent.

Are you planning on attending the Very Merry Christmas Party at the MK? If so, that is a seperate ticket.

Might be easier to compareTicket Prices by looking at the chart on dwills site.

Mark down somewhere to possibly see the Water Pagent Parade which can be viewed from around the 7 seas lagoon. It is a cute water parade made up of floats with brightly lit(colored) Lights making up different images and plays music as it travels through the lagoon. Might be something it keep in mind when you are over at the Poly watching the fire works.

Water Pagent Parade can be easily seen from:
Poly @ 9:00 PM
GF @ 9:20 PM
WL @ 9:35 PM
FW @ 9:45 PM
Cont @ 10:05 PM

Have to go back to the kitchen!

Re: itinerary

Hi janed!

First, about the AAA discounted passes, like debe said, you must get them from your AAA office. A better option might be to purchase the Disney Club Card (DC) for I think around $40. With the DC you can save about $10 - $20 depending on which pass you purchase.

For the amount of time you will be there, I would check into the Annual Passes (AP) instead of the 7 day hopper plus passes for 3 reasons:

1. An AP for a child with the DC discount is about $315, the 7 day Hopper is $261. For adults the AP with the DC is about $354, the Hopper is $308. Yes, the APs are more expensive, but with them you will have more freedom.

2. With the AP you may be able to get an AP rate on your room. If you can't get one at DXL/PO, then possibly at another resort. AP rates for Deluxe resorts can sometimes make it cheaper to stay there than at a Moderate.

2. This is the main reason I would go with the AP - you will be here for several days and the APs will allow you to enter a park everyday you are there. With the Hopper you are limited on only going to the parks 7 out of the 12 days (not counting your travel days) that you are in WDW.

DH and I visited WDW for 11 days last summer. Although 3 of those 11 days were spent off-site at non-Disney parks, we still entered a Disney park everyday. Even on the days we planned to just be lounge lizzards at the pool or shop at Downtown Disney, we found ourselves heading to a park for awhile. In those 11 days, there was still a lot to see that we didn't have time for.

Your family may find that, for example, Day 5 the petting farm at FW doesn't hold your attention for very long. Your children might want to head to MK or Epcot for a few hours and hit some rides. With the AP you will be able to do this.

Oh, and don't worry about only eating one sit-down meal a day. DH and I ate mostly at counter service restaurants. The amount of food we got at the counter service restaurants was perfect for the price. We also ate breakfast in our room before heading out to the parks to save even more money.

I hope I helped a little instead of making things more confusing!

Re: itinerary

thanks - am now thinking seriously about an AP, it will certainly mean more freedom, although more expense!
So discounts for APs are basically by getting a disney club card or from the AAA?
Does anyone know if I can buy APs in the UK?
And are they valid for a year from first use or from the date of purchase?
sorry if this is all old news

Re: itinerary

UK Ticket Information Wasn't sure if you had this site already or not...

Janed, the last annual pass I purchased was through our Disney Store and was given a voucher which was then validated when we went down to WDW at one of the park ticket offices. This is were they take all your information and put it into the computer and then hand you your official annual pass.

Do you have a Disney Store located near you? If so, you should be able to inquire about purchasing your AP voucher there.

Happy Easter Monday!

Re: itinerary

debe hi -thanks for the reply. i tried the ticket link but it does not give the price of an AP just a premium AP in sterling. i also rang disney in USA and they confirmed i cannot buy the APs in the UK, but can order them direct from disney - if i have a disney club card i can quote the number and it will be a few dollars cheaper. I also enquired about AAA discounts but i apparently have to buy the tickets from them, which is easier said than done from here (there are links with the UK AA which they widely advertise but only offer discounts for other orlando attractions - not disney) Does anyone know what sort of discount the AAA offers - is it worth me pursuing this. i want 4 adult Aps and 1 child AP so any discount would be good.

Re: itinerary

Hi Janed!

The discount I received from AAA in 1999 was not as good as the one I could have gotten thru the Disney Club.

One more thing I forgot to mention about the DC, when purchasing items at most Downtown Disney Stores and your local Disney Store as well, you receive a 10% discount. This discount alone at the World Of Disney Store in Downtown Disney pays for the card very quickly!

Re: itinerary

Hi Janed,

I am still a relative new comer to WDW. I have only been twice. Others with more experience could probably give you better information, but here is my experience:

On our first trip, I planned to hit two different parks on the same day and found that we spent too much time traveling between parks. The second trip, we only planned one park a day and found that we saw more, did more and had less stress.

Have fun! Wow! Two weeks of vacation. I don't know what I would do with myself.
