As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

BIRTHDAY\'S AT DISNEY
My DS 5, thinks that we are going to WDW in October. We are instead going for his 6th birthday in August. I'm going to make up shirts for him to wear and having dinner at Crytal Palace. MK for the whole day. Any ideas out there? I know about the pin.

Re: BIRTHDAY\'S AT DISNEY
We ate a late lunch at CP for my dd's 4th birthday. They put confetti and streamers on the table, brought her a cupcake with a candle to blow out and then Pooh held a sign that said "it's my special day" and she was supposed to follow him around the restaurant during the little parade thing they do. (She keep spinning in circles and clapping so I was chasing her with the video camera trying to get her to follow Pooh!)
Mention it when you check in. Sometimes they will leave a card and some balloons in your room signed by characters. Everyone will wish him a happy birthday and ask how old he is. My dd thought that was great!
You could have his hair cut at the Barber Shop and they will put pixie dust in his hair - more attention.
Also, if you are watching the parade and they see the button, sometimes they will bring him out to dance with the characters.
It's so much fun!!! He'll love it!

Re: BIRTHDAY\'S AT DISNEY
Amanda celebrated her 14th birthday at Disney, and Jennie celebrated her 13th birthday at Disney - they both got some magical attention on their day.
Amanda received a special cupcake with a candle & a magical moments certificate in the morning (we were at the CRT that morning). Later in the day, she got a phone call from Goofy (I think) at the Land gift shop to wish her a Happy Birthday. Finally, that evening, we were eating at Le Cellier for the Candlelight Processional - she ordered the caramel apple tart, and they wrote Happy Birthday Amanda on the plate in chocolate!
Poor Jennie was not as lucky - we were not staying on property on the day of her birthday - we were at the Rosen Center for a TSA competition. Since we had a rental car (unlike the rest of the group), and AP's, we found a 4 hour span of time where neither girl had a competition or meeting, and took them off to WDW, to MGM for dinner at the 50's Prime Time Cafe (Jennie's choice). We had a pretty "blah" waitress who didn't do anything, or even wish her a happy birthday till the very end of the night - after we had done about 5 other birthday celebrations. Along with the bill, she did bring Jennie a cupcake, and a card signed by "Mom" and all the "family!" Jennie was still a happy camper - we had time to go see MuppetVision 3D - a big favorite of hers!

Re: BIRTHDAY\'S AT DISNEY
We spent DS 6th birthday at Disney in October. He wore the pin for our entire trip-besides getting some kind of treat at every table service meal,we were given 'reserved" seats at Indiana Jones. My kids are big pin trading fans and a lot of the Cm's gave him the pin w/o taking one.
At check-in, I asked guest services to decorate our room and they also sent him a card signed by the gang,we stayed at Caribbean Beach.
I think kids get way more attention than adults because we also have spent DM's b-day there 2 years straight and although she was acknowledged-not nearly as much as my son.

Re: BIRTHDAY\'S AT DISNEY
Hey -- just another cute idea! Buy several Disney
B-Day cards before you leave home & sign them from his
favorite Disney characters/in crayon. What a joy to receive cards
from Pooh, Mickey, Tigger,Toy Story characters etc. He
will save them forever!

Re: BIRTHDAY\'S AT DISNEY
I don't have much to add to everyone's wonderful suggestions except to say that we celebrated my DS's birthday there one year and we were amazed at the special attention he received everywhere he went. Crystal Palace is a great choice for a birthday meal. If you let the CM know and slip them a birthday card for your son's favorite character to sign, you can ask them if the character will bring it to the table when he comes around and present it to your son.

Re: BIRTHDAY\'S AT DISNEY
In addition to everyone else's wonderful suggestions, I have a few things that I did for my dd's 5th b-day two years ago.
I brought crepe paper, balloons, etc. with me (I may have shipped it to my resort) and my dh & I decorated the room after she fell asleep. We also had Disney themed b-day cards in the room that were "signed" by the characters. Boy was that exciting for her to wake up to! My MIL bought her a Minnie outfit the night before & she wore it to the parks all day, with her b-day button on, of course! I had purchased a Cinderella necklace & bracelet set for her at the Disney store & wrapped it so that I could sneak it to Cindy herself at our CRT breakfast that morning. She was really excited to receive a gift "from Cinderella!" My dh let her get an umbrella at the China pavillion & they wrote Happy B-day & her name on it, along with the date in Chinese. That was really neat, she still plays with it.
That's all I can think of right now. Hope this helps! Have Fun!!! I'll be doing another 5th B-day celebration in 8/06...so I'll be looking for some more original ideas myself. Can't wait to hear all about yours!

Re: BIRTHDAY\'S AT DISNEY
Not sure if they do this at the Boardwalk Villas but at the Polynesian, they put a single layer Mickey Mouse cake and balloons in our room. There was also a Magical Memories Certificate. Which I swiped for the scrapbook...
Make sure you mention it when you check in...who knows what magic awaits...
Have a great trip!

Re: BIRTHDAY\'S AT DISNEY
They have a great birthday cake hat that has candles that light up...get him one of those. At every interactive thing we went to, I heard someone mention a birthday to a CM and had it included in the "program"...the best was at The Living Seas at Turtle Talk With Crush...Crush sang happy birthday!
