As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

For Those Of You Who Are At WDW Christmas Day, What About Santa?
Since families are away from home, does Santa come to WDW with your gifts or just drop them off back home? For those of us older do you exchange gifts at WDW or wait until you get back home?
OR is the WDW vacation a gift in itself?

Re: For Those Of You Who Are At WDW Christmas Day, What About Santa?
Last year, we waited until we got home. My parents flew into Orlando from Oregon then drove back to Pensacola with us when we left WDW 2 days after Christmas. We exchanged gifts and Santa came when we got home!!! That way, it was less to have to pack down and back home for us . . . the only packing that had to be done was the souvenirs my parents and sisters bought a the few little things that we got them for Christmas.
They exchanged gifts with each other back home in Oregon before they flew out to WDW!!!

Re: For Those Of You Who Are At WDW Christmas Day, What About Santa?
Yep, the vacation is pretty much our gift to ourselves! DH and I aren't buying each other anything else, and we asked our parents to just get us money towards the trip as our gifts. Santa will be leaving gifts Christmas morning for DD (5 yo) and she's already planning her letter to let him know where we'll be. I think we'll head over to DTD as well so she can see him and remind him! DH and I aren't getting her more than one or two things from us, because we'll be getting plenty for her while we're there. Santa's only brining 2 gifts besides her stocking, and they're not big, but they are things she wanted.

Re: For Those Of You Who Are At WDW Christmas Day, What About Santa?
Our WDW vacation is the gift really. On our previous two Christmas Day stays, we did bring small presents for each other, which we opened on Christmas morning, but I'm not sure we'll do that this year, as we're trying to be good and put our money into the vacation instead.
Anyway, we'll have Christmas before we go away and when we get back. We've got our Christmas with DH's family at the end of November and then my parents are coming down to celebrate at the New Year, so that's worked out well.

I am bringing stockings for the girls with some small gifts inside, but really the vacation is the gift! But they don't believe in Santa anymore, so that's not an issue.

Re: For Those Of You Who Are At WDW Christmas Day, What About Santa?
Last year we spent Christmas week at WDW - Santa came and left the stockings for the girls in the hotel room on Christmas morning , and because we drove down, we went to my DBIL house for Christmas Day and the girls gifts were already under the tree!!! My oldest DD is still trying to figure out how Santa got her gifts there on time!!!

Re: For Those Of You Who Are At WDW Christmas Day, What About Santa?
In 2002 my family exchanged stockings on Christmas Eve so we could get an early start the next day. We just bought little things for each other and the trip to WDW was my folks big gift to my sister and I. BTW opening our presents on Christmas Eve worked out really well for us because we got to MK at 7:15 AM. The park was virtually empty and we got to do a lot of rides before the park got really crowded around 11 am. I think we will do the same thing this year.
I think Santa visits most of the resorts and DTD but you might want to check with your specific resort for details. We saw many windows at ASSp decorated for Christmas (including ours). One little boy even taped a letter to Santa to the window reminding him what room he was in. You know just incase Santa forgot!

Re: For Those Of You Who Are At WDW Christmas Day, What About Santa?
We were at WDW for Christmas Eve and Day last year. I told our kids (surprise trip) that I had written a letter to Santa asking him to please leave our presents at our house. I put everything out where my sister could find it all labeled with who was to get what, and she came while we were gone and put the stuff around the tree and in the stockings. The only problem with this way, is that the kids were much too anxious to see what they'd gotten, so we cut our trip short by one day (left on teh 26th instead of 27th) so we could get home and see what Santa brought. WDW was the present for DH and I.
If we go this year (we have a reservation we may not keep), we will take the stockings with us. -HiddenMickey

Who needs Santa when you've got Mickey Mouse!
Our trip next year is scheduled for summer, but the trip after that is going to have to be Christmastime. I've heard too many great things about it, and HAVE to do it!
The thrill of Santa may leave at an early age, but the magic of Disney lives in us forever!

Re: For Those Of You Who Are At WDW Christmas Day, What About Santa?
DD is asking Santa for Disney Dollars. She's planning on making a wish list and going shopping Christmas Day with whatever the "Old Ho Ho Man" puts in her stocking. We are exchanging a couple of gifts each on Christmas morning. DD and I are getting matching Vacation Club jackets and DH is getting a Mickey watch.
Like everyone else has said, the trip is the big present.
