Solo-on-a-Scooter takes the A-Train. LIVE TR, 8/29 - 9/11/2015 - Page 38 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Laurie, thank you for sharing your trip with us. It breaks my heart that you won't be able to go back again. I'm sure I'm not the only one (or at least I hope I'm not) but sometimes when I go to bed I try to make myself dream that I'm at WDW. It never works for me, but I hope it can for you. I know you'll experience it through other's trip reports, but I hope some nights when you close your eyes and dream, you'll find yourself back there doing all the things you love.
I have so many vivid memories of so many places I've been, not just WDW, that I really do feel equipped to conjure up different scenes, scents and feelings at any time.

We are going back this december and are planning to do just that. Thank you, (we never know when will be our last trip)
It's a rare thing to know your last anything! I do feel it was a gift to know this and to experience this trip in a deeper way.
I think what I found most poignant about this Trip Report was the fact that you were saying goodbye to rides, shows etc as you went, knowing that it would be the last time you would see this. Sad as it would be, I think this is a much better way to do it than to not realise it would be your last trip and therefore not have the chance to ensure you experienced things for the last time.
I also really loved that you gifted your DVC points to friends, what an amazing thing to do! I wish I could be lucky enough to have a good friend like you.
Please do keep popping into the boards, we would miss you if you didn't check in with us regularly!
Thank you for taking the time to write this honest and heart-wrenching TR, and sending you much love from across the pond.

Thank you so much. I do feel lucky that I knew it was my last trip and didn't take a single little thing for granted. I experienced everything so fully and even happily-- with tears running down my face!

I know. Traveling is just exhausting no matter what shape you're in! I finally got unpacked yesterday! We really did not have enough time to talk. I hope you had a great time at the rest of the pin events. Looking forward to your report to get filled in.
I've finally had time to read your TR, Laurie! It's definitely been bittersweet, but like everyone else, I'm so happy that you were able to make one final trip. I feel especially honored to have been a small part of it. Your trip seemed like the perfect goodbye, and ending it with One Man's Dream is the perfect kiss goodnight! It's sad to know that I won't be able to read your solo-on-a-scooter adventures any more, but I'm happy to have you tag along virtually with my adventures (and of course all the other PassPorters' as well).

Thanks so much, Sharon! Meeting up with you turned out to be the best part of my train trip. I'd have really been going crazy with the delay if you hadn't been there. The time I had in the parks was wonderful. I'll miss writing my solo-on-a-scooter TRs, too, but am so glad I'll have yours and others to follow!
Hi Laurie! I wasn't going to post anything until I was done reading your entire trip report, but I had to stop here for a moment after reading your 9/2 post. For some reason I couldn't see the screen anymore after your comment about your few hours in the truck in Africa. Your Africa trip report is one of my favorite TRs in this whole forum. It brought to mind the emotions I had while reading it. The fact that it will be too difficult for you to ride KS anymore just breaks my heart my dear. I just wish for tons of comfort and blessings for you - you are amazing.

Thank you so much, Angela! My Africa trip was my favorite all-time trip, so I'm really glad my TR brought you pleasure. No tears for this one, though, because I've made enough incredible and incredibly vivid memories to last me several lifetimes, and am so glad I did that trip to Africa while I could still enjoy it.
I've been away from Passporter for a while and I just finished reading your trip report. I remember reading your Disneyland trip report with special interest because having grown up near Disneyland, I'm always curious how WDW passporters enjoy Disneyland.
So I was surprised to read that this was your last trip. But it was so inspiring, I had to post a reply even though it's over 6 months later.
Hubby loves animals and I'm thinking we haven't done Animal Kingdom nearly enough. After reading your report, I've vowed to encourage him to spend more time there, and, perhaps, pop by the window for the procedures. When I told him about your visits, I noted how touched he was.
I know what you mean about WDW being a friend - I've felt that way about Disneyland - it's been family and friend to me and why I've missed it so when we lived near WDW. But after leaving Florida, I realize WDW is also a friend and I can't wait to see her again.
We've also made friends on Passporter and I'm looking forward to making many more. I stopped writing trip reports because I've been so busy on the blog but I may have to return - everybody is so supportive here.
Anyway, before I forget, I want to thank you for sharing your trips.
Wishing you the best and looking forward to keeping up with you by way of other people's reports.
