Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I got my band hooked up to the new system on Thursday. The first day there were a lot of mishaps. We were at MK yesterday. It worked flawlessly. I had no problems at all. I had an index card with me to write the return times on. It does show up on MDE, but the wifi with my iPad mini was very spotty.

When you convert to the band, you need to have everyone's band or ticket media to be scanned on to you DAS. Yesterday I went to GS to add my DD's friend.

On the first day I wasn't sure I would like this system. After using it, I do like it. To get the DAS activated, just go to the attraction entrance. They will scan your band and give you a return time. It was very easy.

So does it work the same - the open ended time? That and was there any conflict with FP times are two of my concerns.

Cedar Point uses a small piece of paper, the size of an index card - I was able to carry it in my short pocket ...I could even fold it and insert it between my phone and the case just for added security. Also, you should be able to ask any CM with an iPad if they could scan your ban to verify the DAS return time.

People have posted pictures of their MDE (My Disney Experience) screens showing their Fastpass and DAS times.
The DAS times still have a beginning time and still have an open ended end time.
They show up in MDE as having an end time of midnight (or the park closing time).

Guests are encouraged to use Fastpass Plus along with DAS (this is not changed compared to before DAS was digital).

With the way the new FP works, I don't know why someone wouldn't want to use it. I like knowing in advance there are certain rides we will get on barring any ride closure. The old FP system wasn't as convenient to use IMO so I do like the new version and put a lot of thought into which ones I want. I just didn't know if the DAS was causing any conflicts with it. I should know though if there were, Disney wouldn't be doing it.

Yes, it works just like the paper DAS. I had no conflicts with our regular fast passes.

The new digital format does allow for open-ended times after the initial return time. In other words, you can return any time that same day after the return time that you are given. It doesn't matter if it conflicts with FP+ windows.

I can tell you from experience last week that we found the new digital format to work very well at MK and DHS, where attractions are closer together. Just as with the old card system, I found it more difficult to navigate at AK and especially Epcot, where the attractions are more spread out. At Epcot, we spent a fair amount of the morning kind of running back and forth. The locations of Spaceship Earth and the two Future World wings off the central plaza and fountain make using the DAS most problematic at that park. I think it might be nice for them to have some sort of central kiosk to get return times. Last summer at Disneyland, that's how we did it. There was a kiosk in almost every "land," and it was much easier than having to go to the attraction itself for the return time.

I'm a little late to the party but this is what I wanted even when it was a paper DAS. It can be difficult for me to "run ahead" and get a return time. Once my DS lays eyes on the ride he wants to go on it can be torturous to tell him we have to come back. I would L-O-V-E for there to be scattered kiosks, just like the FP+ ones

So exactly how does it work if you only have paper tickets? We are staying at the Dolphin when we come and they don't give you magic bands. So we will just use tickets this time. I understand how it will work for me because I require the DAS. However, how do my kids get to walk through the fast pass line after me? Before the cast member would just wave through the number in your group. So now what happens? What happens when my kids scan their ticket after I do mine and get the blue light?

You don't have to have Magicbands. At Guest a Relations, they can attach the DAS to a Magicband or any ticket. They do that by scanning your ticket if you don't gave a Magicband. Then your picture will be taken. The information is NOT stored on tickets or Magicbands. Those just gave a link that calls up your DAS file when the ticket/Magicband is scanned.
You will need everyone's ticket when you go to Guest Relations. The CM will scan each ticket and link it to your ticket, which has DAS linked to it.

When you go to get a DAS Return Time, the CM at the attraction will scan your ticket. That will bring up your DAS file on on a screen. The names of all of the people linked to your DAS will also show up on the screen and the CM will ask which should be added to the DAS Return Time.
The DAS HOLDER doesn't need to be the one obtaining the DAS Return Time. Anyone whose pass/Magicband is linked to the DAS Holder can obtain one (but, only one Return Time can be active at a time).

When you come back to use your DAS Return Time, you need to be first to scan in order for the DAS Return Time to show. You will get a blue light, which prompts the CM to check the screen at the Fastpass machine. The screen will show your picture and also the names of the rest of your group who were added to that DAS Return Time.
The CM will indicate you are cleared and the the rest of your group can scan their tickets/Magicbands. When they scan, they will get a green light.
You HAVE to scan first, but if you want your kids to walk thru the Fastpass area before you, just scan yours and stay put, then have them scan theirs and walk ahead of you.mafter they have all scanned, you can get into line behind them.

Most attractions have a second Fastpass scan point. For that one, it doesn't matter who scans first. There will be a green light for all of you.

If you have Fastpass AND a DAS Return Time for the same attraction during the same time period, have someone else scan first if you want to use the Fastpass first. You would only scan first if you want to use DAS first.
In most of those cases, you want to use Fastpass first since it has an end time. DAS has a beginning time, but is valid any time after that until it is used or cancelled.

If you have Magicbands from a past trip, you can attach new tickets to your old Magicband if you prefer to use those. You can do that on the Disney website or the My Disney Experience app.

If you can figure it out, you can bring your tickets and old Magicbands to Guest Relations and they can link the tickets to the Magicbands for you.
